The series certainly lost some majesty after 7, but each game still had some good points, with the possible exception of XII, and XIII was possibly the best one I've played since VII.

Since I vastly preferred 12 and 13 to 7 and 8, I'm going to say "no." The series is doing fine. I enjoyed 13 about as much as I liked 4 and 6.

Loading the gun? It already pulled the trigger years ago. Square Enix simply haven't been decent enough to bury it yet.

I'm not really sure about this. Yes the concept has changed quite alot over the years, but people are still buying them. I adored FFVIII as well, so I felt the game was a sort of peak :) Then again I liked 9 and 10, and I liked the earlier games as well.

I think the franchise will end at some point definately, but I doubt we'll see it coming. For all I know they might suddenly announce no more Final Fantasies will be made after 2012. Then again, the games are all pretty different, so I don't get why they kept calling them Final Fantasy when they were all set in different worlds, with different situations and different characters. After they stop using the name, they could even continue to make relatively similar JRPGS but with a different name.

If it continues on as it has then it is possible that the only 'new' Final Fantasy titles we see after XIV will be spin-offs and, remakes. I know I can't have been the only semi-loyalist who was brutally awoken by the linear borefest which was XIII after all. It's only a matter of time before the series dies.

No. With the amount of copies FF games still sell, I can't see it dying out yet, or the forseeable future for that matter. I think quite a lot of the hate for the newer FF's (mainly X and after) is from people who played and loved earlier the FF's because Square has gone from having a system which had become so familiar to people to changing their ideas with every new game. I didn't play the likes of FF6 and 7 (I've only played 4, 5, 12 and 13) so I feel as if I have a more open mind about the series and the changes in gameplay don't really bother me but I can see how some people feel that FF is dying slowly.

Personally, I quite like a series that makes big changes with each new game. I'm not saying all the changes are for the good but for me, it keeps the series fresh.

I still enjoy the games and I think they still have a chance to recover, though I do think they are in a delicate spot

FF13 is supposed to be the last in the base series, not because their games aren't selling well, but because Square-Enix agrees that they've been going for long enough. There isn't going to be a time where Final Fantasy is circling the drain because they're stopping after the next MMO out of their own free will.

No it is not. It may never be as good as FFVI again but it is still good and successful.

Though most of this forum will say it is because Final Fantasy is a JRPG and we all know how this forum seems to have a huge bias against JRPGs.
I don't have a biased, I have played JRPGs and the ones I played I loved, but I do believe it's spiraling down the drain. I haven't had much experience with Final Fantasy games (bar X and X-2 and Crisis Core), but my experience hasn't been the best, yeah they were pretty cool, Crisis Core being the only one I thoroughly enjoyed. Judging from the fact that I played the more recent ones it seems to me like it is getting worse, especially after what I heard about XIII. If a series has been going on as long as this one has will obviously been dying out at this stage.
See but you are one person with that opinion and I am sure maybe at least a thousand others say that too but Final Fantasy is still selling like hotcakes and just because the quality is not to your liking does not mean it is of low quality so it is still alive and by no means circling the drain.

Also "If a series has been going on as long as this one has will obviously been dying out at this stage." I will point at Mario and rest my case that long running does not mean dying.
Fair enough, you make a good point.

The series really has its high and low points, and honestly its just a matter of what people like, I have seen that some people love VIII while others think its the worst in the series and that is fine. People have their own reasons to love or hate certain games in the series be it the mechanics, style, or characters. What the series needs is an injection of fresh ideas, maybe change up the character archetypes a little to name one.

I for one (as made obvious by my avatar) am quite fond of VII and in particular Cloud and have been since the age of 9. I was drawn to his character because he was an underdog who through many trials and hardships became awesome, and for me as a child who was picked on all the time I felt that perhaps I too could become that awesome.

Final Fantasy has been circling the drain pretty havily since FFX2. Although the rot started to set in arround that god awful game FF8. Bleh! what a horrible experience in every facet.
thank you, that was the day my faith was shattered lol
It got big just as it got bad. I don't get the contunied dedication to a series which is capable of such horrid stories/ dialog/ characters.

Take a later example, Titus, how could anyone like that guy? How could anyone sit through that laughing scene and still think FF was REALLY deep.
amen..

Sure, none of them since VI and VII have been as good, but they've still been consistently good. Though your poll will be getting tons of negative answers since this site is full of people who hate JRPGs in general for a myriad of untrue and ignorant reasons.
