No. Shenmue 3 is the new DNF.

No one has waited for HL2ep3/HL3 as long as anyone has waited for Shenmue 3.

lol, probably not.

What I think that Valve is doing is waiting for the next generation of consoles and then release HL3 with a new engine.

They probably already have the story and that stuff made. I dont think that they are working on it as we speak.

Just speculating

No. The difference is that Valve is remaining active, and becoming a more and more successful company with an extremely high standard of quality consistent in all of its work. For that reason, Half Life will not fall into the kind of joke that Duke Nukem became. There remains actual excitement for what is still expected to be a quality product.

The longer we wait the more convinced I am that Half Life 3 (not episode 3) will be released on a new engine and I think we're in for a big face-melting surprise.

I think Valv[sub]E[/sub] is just gonna blow our minds one random day and shout, "OH BY THE WAY, HERE IT IS!" and then BAM! It'll be out. And I suspect that day is closer than we realize. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they waited to show it off at convention.

Either that, or they're already done the game, and they're just sitting around now scheming about the funniest way to release it.
in a way, that would suprise so many people that more would actually buy it

who knows, it could happen

OT:no, it will take time, but will be worth it

Gordon as a silent character means you can adapt his personality in a silent way, not old jokes and dead humour

Valve has been doing other stuff. They're busy, not incompetent. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said of 3D Realms.

No, the new DNF is Freedom Fighters 2.

Eight years and counting with no sequel despite promises and an ending which painfully calls out for one.

I don't really care how long it takes, I'd rather they release a completed game with all the ends tied up than a rushed-out mess

Just speculating
Half Life is first and foremost PC so I doubt they would be waiting for the next console generation

No, not quite. But it's slowly getting there.

However, unlike DNF, HL2Ep3 hasn't actually been announced.

Also, four years is a bit less than twelve.

Actually not really, Half Life is also important on the consoles and consoles make money too so instead of making something with DX11 and all that "new" crap right now only for the PC it would be better to wait a few more years to let the consoles pick up the pace of the PC.

I dont get how Half Life can be considered a PC game, its a game and thats it, every Half Life game was on consoles so I dont see why Valve would make the game and just say "Fuck you" to console players that have been following the series.

The difference is that Valve has actually been making other successful games in the meantime.

I beleave the joke is Valve time.
Which I find to be more fitting than making a joke about vaporware.

No. Half Life is made by the notoriously slow Valve but even though it takes forever it eventually gets done. DNF was essentially vaporware since nobody thought it would ever come out. People know that Valve will make HL3 since if they don't their will be riots in the street. I think StarCraft: Ghost is the new DNF.

This.

And there's precedence. Half Life 2 took five years to make and turned out awesome.

Valve, contrary to 3D Realms, has shown the ability to pull off great games and to deliver even if it takes a while. That and the complete lack of any markety-hype bullsh!t disqualifies it from being named in the same vein as DNF.

The mind-blowing thing about DNF is that 3D Realms appears to have actually been working on that sucker for 12 years. Around 2006 or so I just assumed 3D Realms had become a parcel service or a pizza place and they were just keeping up the sharade for the fun of it.

Seeing how DNF turned out it must have been awefully depressing working there in those last couple of years, seeing awesome games come and go and continue to work on that dud.
