The difference is that Valve has actually been making other successful games in the meantime.

If they didn't we wouldn't have Left 4 Dead 2 or Portal 2.

Granted those games could've easily been a side project for Valve considering the leg work is done for them... (Making something that works only building on that technically meaning sequel or rehash).

I sure hope they don't take too long... However they're not like most devs that leave it too long for a sequel and in the process lean bucketloads away from the initial title... I'm looking at you Human Head Studios!

Anyway I reckon Valve knows what they're doing and by looking at their track record and developer commentray they are committed to making their games work well and they certainy wouldn't fuck up their story/gameplay/conintuity in Half Life or any other game they made.

No. I find it pretty stupid that people are complaining already.

I mean, it was 6 years between HL1 and 2. And it's probably going to be announced this year. DNF was famous because it wasn't just in development hell, it was almost non-existent - but we know that Valve is working on that game.
It was supposed to be episodic that is where the complaints are coming from. Plus the whole why in god's name is there not even a piece of concept art for the game let alone a release date. Seriously I don't care how good your product there is no reason why it couldn't have been released a year ago if you were working on it. Other game developers are able to make competent games on a set schedule, take Bioware for example and it's episodic game Mass Effect. They planned the trilogy from the beginning and loot at the release dates for it vs the release dates for Half Life 2

Mass effect-November 20, 2007
Mass Effect 2-January 26, 2010
Mass Effect 3-March 6, 2012

Half Life on the other hand

Half Life 2- November 16, 2004
Ep 1-June 1, 2006
Ep 2-October 10, 2007
Ep 3/half life 3- Probably when the Sun dies

The Mass Effect series has begun and finished before EPISODE FRIGGEN 3 has shown us A GODDAMN PIECE OF CONCEPT ART!

That is imo unacceptable.

Well every Half Life game other than the first one, which I have not played because my computer's shit
Half Life isn't that hard too run. I think most PC's from the past 4 or 5 years should be able to run it.

As to your original question, no, HL3 or Episode 3 is currently not the next DNF. If it takes another 10 years to come out, then maybe.

But, considering the MASSIVE ARG Valve did for Portal 2, I would definitely expect some kind of marketing oddity for HL3. I'm sure we'll know when it comes out. And it will be epic.

I sure hope not. The long in hiatus game finally released only to severly disappoint in how bad it is?

Hopefully it's the anti-Duke Nukem.

I mean I'm no PC gamer and am pretty neutral on Valve I don't wish anything bad on them or their fans.

If anyone just says that valve is competent you're not answering the question, the question is not is valve the next 3D realms because that's got an obvious answer, no. My question was is Half Life 3 the next "never going to come out" joke?
