SNIP SNIP ANGRY FUCKING SNIPIDDYDOO!
boy, did we fired rifles? im saying we never got to look at our parents rifles, as in, they never LET US SEE THEM, AND WE DIDN'T HAVE OUR OWN. idiot. if you don't get that simple idea, you don't deserve a gun in my opinion. go talk to some girls your age, do what a normal kid does, hang at the mall, whatever the hell you young people do! but please, just stop the full steam ahead attitude to own a gun. if you want one, join the army, the marines, anything, i don't plan to shoot a real gun until im out of the marines academy, and that's probably gonna be when im around 25.
shooting isn't normal? i go shooting with some of my friends. and im not full steam ahead not looking at consequences, i know the risks. my maturity shouldn't be judged by age im a lot more responsible than some seniors in high school. one you get to an age do you magically become an adult? no.

No permission, no gun. Regardless of what you or anyone else may think, if the head of the household doesn't want it in the house, then there is nothing you can do about it but CONVINCE/PERSUADE/ENCOURAGE in a meaningful and mature way.

No offense, but if you can't prove your mature enough by having this discussion with those that matter (again no offense to us escapists) then your not going to be able to own one no matter the view points collected by other people.
believe me i tried to have a discussion, i see how he thinks but hes overreacting.

Unless you're police or military, you have absolutely no need for a rifle, or any projective weapon of any kind.
Why not? What if you have to defend yourself from someone who wants to harm you or your family?

And don't say "just call the police", because the intruder isn't going to wait for them to arrive, or give up after you call them. The police can't be there in a instant, but a defense firearm can.

OT: I'm all for gun ownership, but until you get out of your parents house OP, you should follow there rules.

Where do you live that a 16 year old can buy a gun? Even here in Texas, we have to be at least 18 to buy our guns, and we pretty much are the textbook stereotype for gun-owning individuals. I'm all for gun ownership, I think it's a good skill to have, and target shooting is fun enough, so I agree that he's being irrational.
if you have parents consent and a clean backround then you can
Not here you can't. And that sounds like one of those silly things people say that aren't really true, as they say the same about tattoos or buying booze. Mummy and Daddy saying you can doesn't subvert the law, sadly, and ownership laws are pretty damn strict. 18 for long weapons like rifles and shotguns, 21 for handguns, unless they're military or police.

Judging by your ability with the written word alone I would have to say no, come back when you capitalize properly and I will start to think about it.

Also, you are 16... and as I dont advocate school shootings I am gonna have to put another tick in the "No" box. I mean seriously, what does a 16 year old need a gun for anyway?

dont get it then. There is no need to if there is that much conflict about getting one.

you could also get a friend to buy one (or split the money between the two of you)
then just keep it at his house so there's no fuss from your parents and go to a range every weekend or so. :/

It's their house - if they don't want a gun under their roof I think it's within their rights.

When you get your own place you can choose to keep a gun there.

Then sadly, im afraid there is nothing you can really do. Unless you can get you dad's permission, but he would probably just say the same thing, their house their rules. Sucks but hey, it's not the end of the world you don't own a gun.

If you already go shooting with friends, I assume you loan one from the range or their parents.

Can't you keep doing that until you can legally own one for yourself (as your parents aren't giving consent)? Why do you have to own one now to go shooting, if you can go shooting already?

Both are wrong.

Gun control freaks need to realize guns are too ingrained in society to just throw away.

At the same time, you are way too young to own one for yourself. Wait until you're 18 and out of the house. I say this as a 16 year old by the way, I wouldn't trust myself using a gun unless I'm at a range with my dad or something.

He is wrong because he's just spouting propaganda and liberal whine.

You are wrong because the parent you are living with said "no."

Gun laws in the U.S. are stupid as hell. SO many people die due to guns compared to other countries.

So no, I don't think you should get a gun.
Yet the rate of death with other weapons skyrockets in those countries, funny that eh?

Unless you heave a reason to own a gun, don't own a gun. If you want to fire one recreationally, I'm sure you can keep it somewhere other than in the house.

I was trained in the handling and respect of firearms by my father as well. granted, he was no ex-marine or anything, but all the same... I'm 27 now: would I trust a 16 year old me with a gun? No.

I don't think any civilian should be allowed have a gun unless it's for hunting.

Guns are extremly dangerous regardless of who is holding it and if his mother does not want a gun in her house then tough shit for the OP.
What about for self defense? If the people with guns decide to use them against others, I don't think pepper spray or a tazer would be a good defense against a rifle. Also, some people sport shoot as their job!
Personally, there is no problem with people with guns. If they are mentally stable and properly trained, the gun may be dangerous but the person isn't. Licenses are there for a reason. Still, I don't think 16 is the right age for gun ownership.
Plus, I'm a little biased. I enjoy sport shooting, but those experiences also teach me how to be careful with a loaded weapon. Wait a few years OP and get more experience with guns, take a few classes, and then choose if you really want one.

They're paying the rent. There's a massive stigma against weapons in some people, just, put the money you woul dhave spent on a gun adn put it in stocks so you can get more than one later : )

maybe get airsoft to prove you're responsible.

I know that once I get my own place I'll have a wall covered with stuff like guns. They're just interesting.

If you can own a rifle/gun legally in your country at 16, then your country has some stupid laws.
Listen to your mommy son.
Or join the marines yourself if you want to shoot a gun so badly.
