We all know of the famous Darwin Awards, and then there's this:

Yeah, that guy died: http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Asia/Story/A1Story20101008-241407.html

I guess the question is, considering so many people die every day, is it wrong to laugh if someone dies in a hilarious way?

I'm not trying to troll here, and I want a mature discussion, if this question disgusts you, go somewhere else, because that is not my intention.

Personally I did laugh at the video, I don't really think that's wrong, I don't really subscribe to the notion that once someone has died, nothing bad can be said about them. What that guy did was stupid, really stupid, period.

EDIT: I'm kind of surprised at the overwhelming response of "NO", I mean, that's my opinion, I'm just surprised so many share it.....YAY!

I don't think it's wrong to laugh. If it's funny, then it's funny.

Just be sure to be sad and stuff afterwards! :p

Its not wrong.

I mean, it made it on to the Tosh.O show as the video break down. Besides, its funny, sorry if that offends people, but humour is subjective. I dont like to be sad, so my immediate reaction is to laugh, so it makes it hard for me to be at a funeral, cause I just get a fit of the giggles.

as long as you know its a human life ending and that its an unfortunate accident, its fine, I think.

If the incident is out of your control, it's better to make jokes about it than to feel bad about it.

It's a coping mechanism that's healthier for your brain than the "Oh, I guess I should feel sad now" method.

Hell no! That was hilarious!

EDIT: Okay, there are some times when it's wrong, but this wasn't one of them.

Of course it's funny, who the fuck in their right minds would think bashing into an elevator door until it breaks is a GOOD idea!?

I guess he got...shafted.

Seriously, though, that was so stupid he literally deserved it. He rammed the doors, for God's sake.

Of course not. In the face of absurdity the natural response is to laugh, and when someone throws their life away doing something like the video above the scenario could only be described as absurd. Yes, people somewhere probably mourned his passing and will remember his life fondly. But I don't know those people. I have no empathy for the man as I never met him and will almost certainly never meet the people who cared about him. Therefore, it is perfectly correct to laugh.

Does it count as cheating reading 'that guy died' before watching the video? To be honest I was kinda shocked at that. And no I didn't find that funny at all.
[sub]Don't click that quote button if you're going to disagree with me[/sub]

It's not always wrong as humour is subjective. I laugh at deadly incidents which could kill at times as sometimes they are genuinely funny. Others not so much but that's me.

Indeed, in fact it's impossible for you to care for him. (According to the Monkey Sphere anyway =P)

Naw man, it is indeed funny. You ever see cops laugh their asses off at a crime scene? I have, but that's because they see shit all the time and you either laugh or you don't live.

There are always incorrect times, but if we are talking Darwin award material, then laugh away.

I don't mind people who laugh at deadly incidents. It should go without saying that laughing in front of people who were directly affected by the incident would be inconsiderate, but otherwise I'd have to say it's perfectly fine.

I and I laughed at the video although the "punchline" was somewhat ruined by the title of the video.

Exactly what I was thinking. There are people who probably cared a lot for this man; and I'm sure it would have been shocking to see if I was there. But I don't know them; and I wasn't there. In my view, how serious you take it depends on how connected you are. Well, I guess that's not always true. I don't think we laugh at soldiers or firemen or cops when they die. But that's because they usually die to help others, something worth fighting and dying for. We may not pity them, but we don't find it funny. So sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's not. This guy, I find it ok to laugh. Heroic and noble deaths, no.

I'm told that it's wrong to make fun of the dead but if idiots die in retarded ways I'll laugh at them because it's clearly the universes way of saying "you fail so hard at life, you even fail at death."

It all really depends on the situation, like the video of that guy falling, that is okay to laugh at because he was insanely stupid. If someone gets hurt in a real ironic way then its good to laugh at too.
