In singleplayer, there is nothing in the world wrong with using every cheat, exploit, bug, hole, and cheese tactic.

In multiplayer? Don't be a dick. If you're a cheeser, get off the Internet. Just because you're out of arm's reach of your opponent doesn't mean you don't richly deserve to get punched in the mouth the way you would've been in the old days of offline multiplayer for pulling that shit.

Neither option in the polls seems very satisfying without making one seem like an ass-hat, do you have any others?

Anyway, if you made me choose, I'd have to say the second option.

EDIT: Actually I'd have to agree with simulord on this, his is the way of reason.

99.6% of the time, people who do this are angry because they lost. And obviously they lost because you used 'underhanded' tactics/units/weapons, because if you were fighting 'fair', they'd have won. Because they're OBVIOUSLY better than you!

I like to play with their homophobia, so my rendition has 'dad' rather than mom. They don't really know how to respond...they could call be a fag (some do), but that doesn't negate my claim of fornicating their father.
"Yeah, that's what I said. While I was doing your mom! And then I did your dad, too! And he liked it! But he kept moaning your name, I don't know what that was about...."

I guarantee that would cause brains to explode.

I always get pissed when my brother plays Halo and just bitches about the guy with the sword having no skill, only for him to get the sword and get owned in five seconds.

If it's there and it's good, then why wouldn't a skilled player use it? Or am I confusing skilled with not retarded?

It depends if the developers actually meant it to be a viable option, or if its an exploit in the game engine.

Your example is perfectly fine, but for example making use of the lock pick glitch in Deus Ex isn't.

Listen, when you punk someone and he does this "UR NOOB 4 BEETING ME OFF" thing that this idiot is doing, its to make themselves feel superior because you're off posting about how it hurt your feelings. This is wrong. You crushed the imbecile, thus, you should feel superior. Unfortunatly, its like arguing with a doorknob, as they will always blame your noobtrix.

The only proper responses to these people involve the words "mom" and "your" and "i screwed" and "while pwning your face"

The only way to beat them is to sink to their level. They will in nearly all cases tell you their mom is dead. This is a lie. And if its not, your response of "yeah cuz im huge" is all the more innapropriate and effective.
I like your style.
I freaking laughed out loud at the last part. Wow. I'm off to bed now after that one.

when the only thing you know how to use is a RPG then put down the controller and let the real gamers fight it out

I think your "Yes" and "No" are backwards, or you meant "okay" rather than "cheap".

If an intended feature breaks the game, patch or mod it out. If you can't, don't play the game.

Sanders? I do believe her name is Anders. Anyway, that sounds like the same thing as when I made a hesitant venture into Gears of War online, and I was assaulted with "YOU CAN'T USE A SHOTGUN AT CLOSE RANGE, THAT IS SO CHEATING."
I got a "WHAT ARE YOU DOING USING A HAMMERBURST THAT FAR AWAY?" Some bloody people...

If it's in the game then use it, I'm sure the people who are crying over it being cheap then go out and use said tactic and find themselves on the ass end of a whooping. Even a 'cheap' tactic takes practice to get good at.

I just finished a game of Halo Wars, that I won. A little while afterwards, I was messaged by my opponent, calling me a noob, and saying that I only won because I used Sanders (who is believed to be easier).

I see alot of this, not only pertaining to Halo wars, but many other games too. Like 2 piecing in GoW2, or melee spamming in L4D. So what I ask of you, my fellow escapists, is it wrong if it's in the game? My stand is that: if it's in the game, it goes.

Alot of times I hear things like, "things like that are only used as equalizers for players who don't have the skillz to do it the right way", or "only noobs use cheap tricks.

I'm sorry if this has been done before, but I could'nt find another one like it. So please, express your view's my fellow escapists.
Don't care if it's been said: Balance is always an issue. Starcraft is one of the few "balanced" games and it still has definite quirks. That's why updates are important (that and bug fixes). Patches allow the creators to modify previously existing numbers and stats and whatnot in an attempt to balance the gameplay so that questions of fairness aren't asked anymore. So I would say that yes, there is the potential for "cheap," "OverPowered," or "ridiculous" elements to exist in any game. That's really nobody's fault, but it occurs all the time. Just look at your own example: Melee spamming in L4D is no longer allowed (Multiplayer-wise) because they have the "melee fatigue" cooldown. Now it's considered less "cheap" from Infected views, tho Survivors everywhere still complain.

If your exploiting a glitch its wrong, but if your using somthing that is legitimatly fair and part of the game, then the person calling you a noob is just a sore loser.

I'm surprised we've got this far and nobody has mentioned the Zerg rush (references to Starcraft above withstanding)

People are just whiney bitches these days I think. I'll stick to playing my weak and cheap races (spamming shoota boyz or zerg) when I want to, because if that's the way I have to be to win, that's the way I'll be.

its the same in all games, take any tactical fps with an "awp" style weapon which will oneshot you if you are hit anywhere even your toes... some people need such a weapon to feel that they are a good sniper... every time i see them i tend to just think... hmm either they are good and i stand no chance in hell or... and proceed to rack up kills on them using sneaky tactics and superior accuracy with more precise sniper rifles... i mean sure getting killed evert spawn by a one hit kill sniper rifle gets annoying fast... but the feeling of knifing the sucker over and over again later on just never gets old... :D

Erm...as opposed to sniping someone with a shotgun? Reading that makes me happy to not play Gears online.

Anyways, if it is in the game, use it. Whether others see it as cheap or not, if you have fun using an item or method, just use it.

Depends if it's a ranked match or not. If it isn't do what ever the hell you want so long as its not actually cheating. Ranked matches are more serious so my rule becomes do what ever you want so long as its not an entirely broken, mathmaticaly proven, unstopable I win button.

And now I know, I will never play multiplayer with anyone at the Escapist.

I would have thought most of the people here would say that using cheap tactics that make you win and piss everyone else off is bad, but obviously not.

It appears people have almost entirely forgotten the concept of mutual entertainment in favor of being entertained at the expense of others.
