Alright I made an account just to post in this topic (fingers crossed I avoid a banhammer to the chin) and had to pose a question to this thread. Oh, I suppose I should answer the OP's question first; Those who would try to justify stealing a PC game on weak lines such as that are undeserving of even using the word. Ask your friend if he even knows the difference between a red and black anarchist and a red and green. There are, in fact, many different groups of anarchist and I would really encourage him to sit and talk with some of the people I've met on the road, you know real ones. Who would just laugh in his face and walk off but only before belittling him for such practices. It is wrong to the majority of people in many cultures and it is wrong to many of the true anarchist I've met, given they would also say in the same breath that fire bombing one of their trucks and evil products is ok though.
But the real question I have to all the people who are speaking so strongly against it (and this is not to derail this thread in the least) is, how many .mp3 files do you have on your hard drive? How many of them were legally purchased and money exchanged for the product? Do you own the CD that was purchased legally of the artist's CD for the .mp3s on your computer?
If you don't have any illegal .mp3s or what have you on your computer than I truly applaud you for being a honest, law abiding citizen and voicing your thoughts in this thread. Lord knows there aren't many left these days it seems.
You see, I honestly fail to see a difference in saying stealing a physical good is different that saying downloading something less physical and a helluva lot easier to get away with. It's amazing what we can all justify as long as we are in our own homes and the good stolen seem less material. We can tell ourselves, "Oh well it's not like I walked into the artist's house and stolen the song out of his brain to listen to it" or "It's just a few songs" the fact of the matter is, it still makes you a thief. As a matter of fact if you consider stealing from a large multi-national corporation wrong yet stealing money from an artist trying to make his living through an artistic outlet well then I would truly ask you to re-evaluate your thinking process on that matter.
So really I guess my answer to the question should be a big, fat LOLIUNNO.
