Dogs and cats are adorable. More importantly, they're not livestock, but hunting companion and mouse-eater respectively. They have JOBS. Killing cats is why the Black Plague went as far as it did, anyway.

Nope. If it's OK to eat fish, cows, and chickens, why should it be wrong to eat dogs and cats?

They're all animals, their right to live isn't based solely on how adorable they are.
I could make a "sea kittens" joke, but I won't out of good taste.

Thing about fish is, you don't see most people keeping sea bass or halibut in a little tank on the counter.
Unless they live in a seafood restaurant, I guess.
I refer you to my previous point that an animal's right to live isn't based on how adorable it is.

Technically neither are wrong, however, since we have both as pets in the modern day, I would prefer not to eat either. Anyway, dogs and cats are adorable! Cows and chickens are ugly, so I really just want to sink my teeth into them. I love my dog.

Yes, eating meat is immoral.

Eating meat, that eats meat is an even more ridiculous waste of resources.

Eating anything, in and of itself, is always ethically neutral. It's a process of muscle spasms which eventually result in acid formation and (hopefully) waste expulsion, nothing more. Whether it be cow meat, pig meat, cat meat, dog meat, or even human meat is irrelevant.
I hope you are always well fed when you're around me.

If I came home to find you had some into my house and killed sushi and served her for dinner I would not be very happy. With that said meat can be hard to come by but I would be slighly put off by having a pet slaughtered.
But again I would eat dog...probally would not be my first choice pig and cow is too tasty to dismiss but I would if it was available as part of a selection or all you can eat sort of thing.

An animal is an animal. Humans, along with many other animals, eat other animals. Simple as that. I'm not saying I want to eat my house-pet, but it wouldn't be wrong if I did.

Why would it? Its not morally wrong to eat cows, chickens, pigs or other animals, why should it be wrong to eat a dog or a cat? In some places, those animals are local delicacy.

Do I disagree with eating cats and dogs? Yes. Do I find it disgusting? Yes. But all of these responses are socially conditioned. Morally, there isn't really anything wrong with eating cats and dogs, we've just been taught to view them as companions and not as food.

let's put this in perspective... all other baggage aside, if you're dying of starvation, wouldn't fluffy the cat or roscoe the dog look mighty tasty?
Note, I'm an American, and I have no reason to think otherwise. I've loved my pets but if it came between them and me... sorry, I will always come first.

Honestly I'd say it depends on the situation. I could damn sure wolf down a dog or a cat if I'm in danger of starving.
But I have four dogs and 2 cats of my own, and I love them all, however annoying they get. So if your asking, would I just eat one out of hand for sunday dinner? No, I wouldn't.

EDIT: And, as theres no "Depends on the situation" choice in the poll, I'm going to abstain from voting.

well as a Vegetarian I would never eat any animal. but if you choose to it's your choice. Cats dogs cows chickens, they are all pets to someone around the world, just depends on what your culture teaches. if you were in India, you would think the same way about cows as we do dogs or cats here. A dead animal is a dead animal, so if you eat meat it's all meat.

P.S. no selection in the poll for "same as other animals" so no vote for me

Neither is technically wrong, but I would still rather not, especially as a lifelong dog owner.
In a life or death situation though, not a problem.

To me? Yes.
To koreans? No.

Different cultures, in ancient Japan, seppuku was acceptable(I'm not sure about today), in Western cultures, suicide is cowardly.
