As a lady right here--you have to play as a guy a lot. It's not that weird.
Sameo, as a female gamer playing as a guy is often the only option, so its not odd for me, but it is nice to have the choice occasionally...

I always play a male character if given the choice, just like I always play as a non human race if given the choice. What I don't understand is when people on lets say, WOW ***** about a guy playing a female, when his character is a TALKING COW.

I usualy play as the opposite sex in games that I'm playing for the second time. I did in Fallout 3, and I usualy buy both Pokemon games and in the one that I'm using to give the other game all the Pokemon. I don't see how it is a big deal at all, but I usualy stick to a male with online games.

Not, it's not strange in the least.

In RPGs that give the choice, I almost always prefer making female characters (which I realized one day on realizing that my WoW roster is 90% women). In fighting games, where sex doesn't usually matter (fighting style does), I've noticed I'm sometimes more willing to master female characters (mainly Xiaoyu and Asuka in Tekken, Amy in Soul Calibur, and Aoi in Virtua Fighter).

I do it all the time.

I create a male that resembles me, beat the game on both good and bad sides.
Then create a female that I want to have sex with and beat the game as good and evil.

Did it with the KOTORS, Morrowind, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and I will do it for Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age.

Its how I get the most out of my games, you know to try and justify the hefty price tag.

I started trying that in games when I played KOTOR. I did it in that game because I heard it from what I now think was an advertisement for the game taht playing as a woman gave you a new experience. I think I saw one different dialouge choice that was insignificant. I try it after I beat a game the usual way I want to now. It only has seemed to make a difference in a few games, like Fallout 3 because of the Black Widow perk (Easy extra caps for blowing up Megaton)

I would have prefered a "no, there's nothing wrong with it, I've done it before and it isn't odd at all" option there.

Because that's what I would have answered.

I rarely play as a female because the only games i have played where there is an option is Harvest Moon: FoMT or MFoMT, and in those games a big part of the gameplay is relationships and as a heterosexual male member of society it doesn't feel right flirting with guys/having them attracted to me.

EDIT: However, in Harvest Moon :Magical Melody, for the wii, you aren't given a choice on character when the gamecube version lets you be a girl. This pissed me off for some reason even though i probably only would have tried playing as female for the novelty.

In a game where you customize your character? Well, if you happen to want to be your opposite sex for whatever reason, that's fine I guess.

No, because if I'm going to stare at a character's ass all day it might as well be an ass I like looking at. Plus females are more badass in games to me.
Pretty much this. I don't have any desire to see a guy's ass on my screen the whole time. Plus, I'm actually more interested in...stuff if I'm playing as a girl.

I sometimes play as a female, sometimes as a male. In MMO's, I find it easier to be a male because you're more accepted. People don't think you're some gay freak pretending to be a girl. In other games where the option is there, I normally just play as a female.

It's not strange.

I usually flip a coin to decide the gender of my character.

As a female, I usually don't get a choice.

This is why I like Saints Row 2 better than the first game. What's the point in having a really advanced feature to customise your character if you can't choose what gender you want to play as? I'd much rather watch myself run around causing mayhem than some random male character that I've only half-arsed created because there's no other option.
