I don't get it. I thought people liked Super Mario Galaxy. How wrong I was.

Mario shouldn't be put to sleep, the all sorts of spin-offs should be put to sleep.

I don't think Mario needs put to sleep for good. I think he just needs a short nap.

In my opinion Mario's games are still fun except for those sports spin offs I never play those. But he needs to let a new hero or game rise up to the top for once instead of everyone saying,"I'll just wait for the next Mario game." How many good games have been dulled against the bright light that is Mario?

I also believe the same goes for Zelda..

Kill the spin-offs, but let them make the platformers. When you give Mario a sense of "drama" (well... as dramatic as an E rated cartoon gets) and let it combine with the natural hilarity of an Italian Plumber Hero, it can make a pretty entertaining, if simplistic game. Especially when his movement and the power-ups are as polished as they normally are. Whether it's because Nintendo has been in the game a long time or because they set higher standards for their flagship, no character is as easy to control as Mario. He can't match the fluidity of the Prince, or the visual "cool factor" of Dante, but he always seems to end up exactly where you intended.

Also, if anyone tells Nintendo to make less DK games? I hope you fall of a cliff and land in a barrel cannon. I hated Jungle Climber and Barrel Blast, sure, but if they give me a genuine sequel to DK64, it might help me forget what Rare is doing to Banjo right now.

I'm actually going to defend the little plumber and I'm going to defend his endless spinoff series, and here's why.

I don't think Nintendo are just making random games, attaching 'mario' and assuming they'll sell. I think that if they were coming up with new characters, *they'd still be making those random sports/party games anyway* at exactly the same volume.

If they want to skin them with mario, that is *fine* by me. What's the alternative? Have them come up with a set of ten completely random characters with absolutely contrived stories each time they want to release a game? Look at sonic adding new characters all the time. Look at crash bandicoot and it's utterly unremarkable characters. I loved diddi kong racing in the n64 days and i can't remember the names of any of its characters that did not later appear in other games.

I think it's a fun little set of characters and images which can be twisted perfectly to the sort of games that nintendo likes to make. I like in depth storylines and fascinating new IP as much (if not more) than the next guy. But there's a place for the sort of games mario is in and he's welcome to keep being the face of them as far as i'm concerned, so long as they're still good games.

Well, as long as his main title's continue to be top-notch, why would they put him to rest? If a game is good, why stop? And that's purely from an economic perspective. Good games=good money, and main title Mario games are almost always good.
Repeated games = Good money = Developers/Publishers never taking a risk.

Ive never liked mario, but even if i did i'd want it dead, its gone on too long, its pathetic now, its taking funds away from potentially good projects and besides wouldnt you just LOVE to bludgeon that smug bastard. Dont lie.

Im a tired (to say the least) of all the mario tie ins (Football, tennis ect). But the Mario platformers are some of the best games ever made. Mario Galaxy is now easially my faviourt platformer ever (not counting prince of persia ofcoarse) it is true that it might be difficult to find something new for mario after he's gone into space, but just because he's been around for a long time doesn't mean he has to pack it in just yet. Nintendo are still making great Mario games, so why should they stop?

More popular than Mario? Hmmm, that's a tough one...

Pac-Man, perhaps?
Yeah, and perhaps a snowball could survive in hell.

Are you aware of how foolish you sound?

Yeah, I am, but I've learned to live with it.

Not killed... just slowed down. Nintendo needs to keep up stuff like Mario Galaxy but slow down and start making more unique franchises.

I find it shocking that people still play games like Mario, Zelda etc.

The times have changed, we can play games like Bioschock and Mass Effect now.
There is no need for tasteless graphics and retarded plot anymore.
Why would anyone these days torture himself with Mario (except stoners)?
Maybe because some people just like awesome Gameplay?

Not me, as I rather play the games you mentioned, but your line of thought is pretty tasteless & retarded...

"Mario is traversing challenges. Nothing more, nothing less"

Lara Croft should come somewhere near, and Pac-Man isn't that strange a choice

I'm with Darth Zew. One new Mario platformer, Kart, Smash Bros. and RPG per console is a fine pace for the ultimate mascot: any more is pushing it. I actually haven't tried the latest Karts (Wii and DS) but they have a good track record elsewhere. They need to make at least one more Mario RPG for DS if nothing else.

He's still popular and unlike his old blue rival none of his games have really been notably bad aside from the Olympics and maybe some of the Parties. So long as that continues to be the case he'll remain safely away from the shark tank. I'd say he's taking his last leap over it only when they make him T or M-rated (have him kill someone, rap, swear, go goth, etc.).

Don't retire him, per say, just retire his sports career. Mario games are fun times. Mario sports are less so.
