the problem with the more recent games (ive not played galaxy do im not sure if it includes that) is that they've changed so much from the original side scrolling ones. if they could make a game like those with the fire flower, invincibility star, mushrooms and some of the items from MB3 then it would be really good

New Super Mario Bros. for DS is a return to form, although not as strong as previous titles in my opinion. It's still a fairly enjoyable experience.

I didn't (and still don't) like the Mario games, I just never got into them. This is probably why I'm not subject to the nostalgic euphoria that I'm guessing quite a few people here are under the influence of.

Mario is severely past his sell-by date and should probably give it a rest (maybe making a cameo apperance now and then but otherwise left alone).

This might just be me lashing out against a character who is rather 'childish' in terms of his appeal but even if that's the case, I believe I have a point.

How many people here (who are above the age of 16) still like Pokemon? Those of you who are thinking 'that's me', stop and look at yourselves for a second and think 'why am I playing a game where the protaganist is almost half my age?' (yes, I also have a thing against pokemon as well).

If I see another 'Mario teaches typing' or anything else like it...I cannot be held accountable for my actions.

I personally find it a tad bit tragic when fully grown adults are playing childrens games (both Mario and Pokemon are bright, colorful, have fantasy worlds with cute monsters and one has a princess in distress ,typical of children's fairytales, while the other has you playing as a 10 year old trying to be the coolest kid in the world! This sounds pretty 'kiddy' to me).

I'm not saying that 'kiddy' isn't fun (hell, I loved playing with green army men as a kid, and I still have a teddy bear I've had since I was 2), but there comes a point where you probably have to admit that you're a bit old to be doing something and let it be nothing more than a good memory (besides, Mario 64 and the original Poke'mon weren't THAT good anyway).

Stop letting your ideas of what's socially acceptable and unacceptable regarding entertainment define what is fun for you. I'm 20 and I love Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Sonic, etc. I also love Mass Effect, Half-Life, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Diablo, enjoy BioShock, StarCraft, etc. All of those games are awesome and fun, not just in spite of but to some degree because of their graphics and presentation. I don't know if you've played Mario Galaxy lately (I assume that's too childish for you), but it's an incredible, challenging, intelligent game, and you're missing a hell of a lot by passing it by.

If you can make a game with Mario that is innovative and not just the same old formula churned out again (i.e. Super Mario Galaxy), then go right ahead. If not, hand him his pension and throw a retirement party.

I never judged other games negetively due to a lack of blood (granted, I do like blood in games, but it isn't going to ruin my day if there isn't a hint of gore to be found). I like quite a few non-bloody games like: Dave Mirra BMX, Guitar Hero, Simpsons Hit and Run, Vectorman, Metroid Prime, PGR4, Soul Calibur (there may be fighting, but there isn't any blood) and Armoured Core.

Also, I never said childish games weren't fun, I merely said that I (and others who are my age and up) are probably too old to be playing them, that is a completly different statement all together.

Also, isn't the personal definition of what is socially acceptible and non-acceptible useually centred around past experiences regarding what you like and do not like? In other words, wouldn't my definition of fun be defined by what I find entertaining or acceptible?

This begs the question of why cartoonish or childish games are not acceptable for adults to play.

I think that if they stopped making all those spin off games (Mario kart/tennis etc) then we wouldn't really need to think about "putting Mario to sleep", imo Mario galaxies is one of the best games on the wii, if not this generation, so it seems silly for Nintendo to stop making Mario games when they can pull something like that out every generation.

If they are going to keep whoring him out in every kind of sports game and giving him weird gimmicks in his new titles, then yes.

If they're going to take the series back to its roots with a Mario 64-like title (still the best 3D Mario IMO), then I think they should let him stick around.
