Assumptions are not inherently bad, though. It's a perfectly natural way of getting to know a stranger. You take whatever you know about them and fill in the gaps with assumptions so you can treat them like a human being, rather than some strange, ambiguous being. It's only when you act upon those assumptions and treat them poorly because of them they become a problem. Thinking just about anything isn't harmful. Throughout your life you'll "think" about just almost everything, if only for a brief moment. But what matters in the end is your actions, not your thoughts.
