I don't know why but I really like getting achievements, although I wouldn't buy a really easy game for them. I will borrow things like Lego:Batman from my friends though, just because it's so chillaxed.

you don't buy games for achievments, you rent them.

Buying them for achievments just makes developers think its ok to produce crappy games on a regular basis.

Eh. If you're having fun, you're having fun.

LO, ah, my signature game. I think I've played it five times now. I completed all the side quests the first time around, so after that it was all about the awesome story. ^_^ If you can, get that game again and finish it goddamit! >.<

The Backyard was very cool and reminded me of something very similiar from the Shadow Hearts franchise - good old Nautilus. Tolten was pretty weak, I only used him when I had to. He was hilariously lame during the cut scenes; funny how manly and brave Jansen suddenly appeared when Tolten joined the party.
Tolten is really weak when you get him, but learn a few moves and find the hidden Royal Seals and he's really powerful. I forgot what the move is called but he can't be hit for (I believe) two turns, and also he has this other move--Ultimate Hit--that is just powerful. If you teach that to Kaim and Seth...
Damn, I need to play the game over again. It's amazing.

It's your money, spend it how you want. who are we to judge because you discovered an ambition for points? We all have ambitions for points in one way or another a lot of the time anyway.

Im gonna keep it simple here.

Play games for fun and enjoyment. If getting achievements gives you that, then go ahead. A lot of games are so easy these days trying to get 1000 is the only challenge, so i don't look down upon you.

You need turn tail to avoid the hellshakers, the only other creature on the island. This method will net you shit loads of sp and xp. By the time you're done they'll all be up to level 49 and have most of their skills. Cheap yes, but saves hours of level grinding later on.
Interesting. I did do the Kelolon statue game, so probably got gamble, but I don't recall ever using it. Trying to kill the silver kelolons with normal attacks is a big annoying pile of wank, though. I assumed they'd be worth a ton of XP given how often they ran away :p

Not wrong, but would you really pay for a game just to get the achievements? You're not buying it because you enjoy it. You're just buying it to bolster some number.
Your poll really should have another option. Those of us who say "no" don't have to be achievement hunters.
Well, I'd hardly be paying full price. In fact I'd probably be renting the game, but if for some reason the company I rent from wouldn't let me, I'd be buying it pre-owned. Also, buying it for the achievements doesn't mean I won't enjoy playing it, just that I have a main motive other than finishing the game. I'm sure it'll still be fun this time around, but I still feel a little weird about my primary reason for purchasing/renting it again being to gain gamerscore. A few months ago, I'd have been perplexed by anyone making such a decision.

I tried Lego: Star Wars Complete Saga the other day, because I'd heard it was a fun, relaxed game. I hadn't heard that it was dull as hell, and reluctant to give me any hints. There were hundreds of things to collect like studs, minikits, orange blocks, gold blocks, but the game itself didn't tell me about them. It didn't even tell me what I'd get for collecting them. I just ran about picking up everything I could see, and then at the end of a level it would add them up and put them into my score for the level. A tutorial or something would have been nice, or some kind of incentive to keep picking up this crap...

Well, thanks for that. You seem to be in the minority though, judging by the poll results ;-)

its a game, buy it for whatever reason you find fun. If getting a higher gamer score is fun for you, then get games for you gamer score. If you don't care, about your gamer score, no one else should either.

If it gives you fun and you do not put your financial situation at risk by doing so, why would it be bad :)

I wouldn't do it, but I see the appeal. I do get a little anal about my own games and my scores on them, but I haven't bothered to hit the 1k mark yet.

i love achievements (only 50g away from 20000g!) but i only try for achievements on games that i actually like to play. i would never get a game just for the achievements. however i can justify buying a game i had beaten on another system if it is under $20 to play through again and get achievements

I never really bother with achievements unless I think it'll be interesting, or add a new level of challenge like "Little Rocket Man" from Half-Life 2 Episode 2. That was fun as hell.

It's sad really, really sad but not wrong who can judge that personaly however I would only ever buy a game for well the gameplay but I guess I'm old fashioned. Seriously though you're only supporting a rather bad trend in games where story, character, mechanics etc take a backseat to this e-peen console culture I dont care about a digitised number I know how good a gamer I am by my performance at said game tyvm.

I don't think it matters as long as you do get the achievements and don't cheat.

I just can't fathom buying a game just for the achievements. On the other hand, you don't sound like you wanted to do that in the first place. The title is indeed misleading! I think that there is absolutely nothing wrong with earning achievements on games you have. I just think that buying a game purely for the achievements is going a bit far.

Basically I have the same attitude as you do, but I do not buy the games for the Gamerscore I buy the games for the storyline. =)

Yes, I think it's wrong, because you'd better spend those money on a game that you know are gonna like.

Who BUYS games these days?
People who actually want to support the industry jackass.
Yes, because I am a jackass for renting rather than buying.
With current games being far less than a week long experience, it is a far more economical option.

Or, in other words, if they refuse to give sufficient quality and quantity as to incentisize me to own their game permanently, then whose fault is it, mine or theirs?
A week long experience? Are you expecting every game to be Baldurs's Gate 2 or something?
