That's because your not looking for them I just typed in camps and overregulation and found a few sources http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/64524/lawmakers-kick-back-over-kickball-regs/
Edit: Misread the first time.

That's an article on the same topic, actually. Published yesterday. Find me something pre-2009.

Ah, dodgeball. Such a fun sport. I remember when I did my first slide on a muddy field, the ball went sailing over my head and I was safe... Good times.

Yeah, if you don't have the sense to duck in dodgeball, GTFO NOOB.

I don't even remember what red rover is. All I remember is that it was one of those games that everyone played and enjoyed in elementary school along side dodgeball and tag. Obviously it wasn't dangerous enough before, why are people being so sensitive about it now?

They aren't. They're moving from deciding what safety regulations you have to follow from being based on whether or not the camp is "primarily outside" to deciding based on activities.

Currently its: Outside = "Camp" safety regulations. Which include crazy things like having a nurse. Outdoor chess camp? Still a camp. Inside = "daycare" safety, doesn't matter what you do. You don't need a nurse when kids are jumping from poles, as long as they're inside. The ceiling will stop their tiny little ankles from spraining.

Instead they want indoor "camps" to at least face the safety regulations that similar outdoor camps (and have without incident, for years) would. Controversy ensues.

It's like complaining that a camp with a lake needs lifeguards like a pool would. Apparently that's crossing some sort of line.

Freeze tag is capable of giving children serious injuries.

FREEZE TAG is capable of giving children serious injuries.

FREEZE TAG! Really? The only way a kid could get hurt is if he/she fell over, and even then it wouldn't be too serious.

This kind of overprotectivness is seriously counterproductive to getting children to play outside, and it's only going to make the obesity problem here in America worse. It really pisses me off that people in such high positions make stupid decisions like this.

This legislation would simply kill summer camps. If they pay the extra fees they'll have trouble making money and die, and if they stop playing kickball and such, then no one will want to go to them, and they will die. If a parent doesn't want their kids hurt from a game, that's their issue, but if the government tried to enforce this, it would simply destroy summer camps and things that aren't even summer camps. Everyone gets a little banged up in their childhood, that's part of life and if it's fun it's fun. Taking that away would just make kids big sissies and have some sort of contributing factor to childhood obesity rates.

Most of the people who work at summer camps have a very out there education and lifestyle, and this bill would put a lot of them out of a way to make some extra money in the summer. I sure hope that doesn't pass, and I'm so glad I live in Colorado at times.

Kick ball?! MOTHER @)(&%#&^!@#%*($%^!@#%^(*@#!#^$&^(%!@#^$%)#(*#&%_)!@$ (swearing goes on for five minutes)

Dodge ball--perhaps.
Red Rover--okay.
Freeze tag--eh...
But Kick ball? You have a better chance of being injured in baseball than in kick ball. What the hell are they playing with? BRICKS?! If that's the case, I hereby demand that baseball be banned because it is played the same way, only with harder balls, hockey be banned because you are actually trying to hit people and those blades are sharp, and football be banned because, well, have you WATCHED the sport?
No wonder kids are so messed up. They can't do anything without adults coming down on them saying, "No, that's too dangerous."
Guess what I did when I was a kid? Besides playing each one of those games and never suffering more than a scrapped knee, I played with sticks. Sharp, pointy sticks that hurt when you got hit with them. My friends and I had a blast. (No, I'm not making that up, we really played with sticks. No rocks though)

None of these games are dangerous.

You know,.. I'm getting really tired of this. These are the kinds of games kids have been playing for generations (not really kick-ball. But tag, dodge-ball, red-rover, freeze-tag, and of course the fucking classics! Baseball, basketball, soccer,.. etc) - and some over-protective diaper sniffing, my-kid-is-my-best-and-ONLY-friend, soccer parents who think all kids are precious and should be treated like delicate invalids throw hissy fits.

You know why childhood obesity and lethargy is a problem?

A.) They are stuffing the kids face with crap.
B.) They discourage physical education (which can also harms social skills)
C.) Parents can't seem to understand parental controls. (They can, they just don't want to.)

These games are a good thing. They encourage physical fitness, a bit of healthy competition, and TEAMWORK. Learning to work as a team with their peers. Not only that - shits fun. It's FUN. Remember, fun? When the street lamps go on and you go home: you stink like outside, you're sweaty, you're a bit banged up - but damn it, you had some FUN.

Seriously? Damn, America's getting so soft it's sad.
No kidding. When we, the United States, do get invaded in twenty years, all our soldiers are going to go, "Ow, it hurts when you shoot me. I'm telling the...um...well, I'm just telling on you!" This is pathetic.

These rules were turned down, and wouldn't have banned the games. Instead they're opting for "it gets the same rules as an outdoor summer camp". I must be crazy for thinking that's not particularly crazy.

What's kickball?
It's baseball with a rubber ball that you kick instead.

KIDS DON'T GO OUTSIDE. DON'T EXERCISE. DON'T ENGAGE IN ANY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY BECAUSE YOU ARE MADE OF GLASS AND A SCRAPED KNEE COULD KILL YOU.

I can't even with this planet. What ever happened to the good old days where a child falling over, getting dirty and breaking an arm occasionally wasn't considered a national disaster?

Playing kickball well, not really dangerous but not a good idea to play in sandals either. I did that in elementary school and got a home run (dunno if they still call it that in kickball?), but also had a toe covered in blood when I looked down after that.

Unless you're a hemophiliac or your bones are made out of bread-sticks, playground games aren't the least bit dangerous. In fact, playing those games is conducive to a healthier body and immune system.

At the usual ages where one plays tag and dodgeball, a kid's body is on protective overdrive. The immune system is almost always active, nerve, skin and muscle tissue grows back at insane rates, and their skeleton structure is still partially rubbery to help absorb impacts. However, unless the system is shown the possible threats that could damage the body, those systems will assume that there is no threat to fight. So in order to assure that one can properly deal with as many threats as they can later on in life, they have to subject the body to stress and bacteria, so that our bodies learn how to properly maintain themselves. Proper health is trained, not genetic.

It's ironic, isn't it? By trying to protect the children, these people are actually creating more trouble for them.

kids these days arent getting toughened up. my fondest memory of youth was gym class in 3rd or 4th grade, our gym teacher was an offensive coordinator at some college, we played dodgeball every class no exception. one day i was the last one in and he was playing with us and drills a dodgeball at me. good ting i dodged, the ball hit a door and took a small portion of the bottom corner off. i was so scared. good times.
