Poll: Is New Vegas a rip off?

New Vegas is just basically Fallout 3

New Vegas is basically a sequel to Fallout 3. A developer can't rip off their own games in the same way a car producer can't rip-off one of their own cars.

You may as well say; Oblivion is a rip-off of Morrowind, Bioshock 2 is a rip-off of Bioshock 1, MW2 is a rip-off of CoD4, etc

See what I'm getting at here?

im in australia and it wasnt meant to unlock on steam till tomorrow but i came how to day and its playable. lucky me.

It does enough different, and it's big enough that it isn't an expansion.

That said I'm very disappointed by the lack of polish on the game. A lot of problems from Fallout 3 have reappeared in New Vegas. They really should have worked the kinks out before they sent the game out.

And they didn't really dare to be too different either, which kind of makes the game feel...samey.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but I think he meant "rip-off" to refer to the price of the game, not to New Vegas "ripping off" Fallout 3.

That's his fault. It is the "duty" of the OP to make their threads clear, not ours to have to try and interpret them.

Are you people complaining about a game that seems similar to the previous game? That is an interesting take on all of this. What should they have done? Added new depth to the difficulty? Oh they did that with hardcore mode. Oh maybe changed the actual combat, DAMN IT they added iron sights to improve shooting. I know, I know, Maybe alter the fabric of the game by adding new rpg elements like creating ammo, making your own medicine, changing the entire location, added more difficulty to faction allegence, jesus christ I can go on all night!!!! Its Fallout 3 improved. and its not a 5-7 hour dlc its a stand alone 40-80 hours of gameplay. I bet you like hello kitty: islands of adventure. At least that is different from everything right?

Game too short??? Not even close.. I am around 15 hours in and I am barely away from Primm.

As for the tech issues?? Well lets see Bethesda in over 2 years couldnt even fix them, and its their baby! So, I am sure Obsidian started to see this when they started work on the game and it was too late to re-write the whole damn engine. I know there is a patch for alot of issues already with New Vegas.. even tho I have yet to encounter 1 bug in the game and I have it on the PS3.

The game is a fantastic value IMO..now Dragon Age awakenings was a rip off.. 40 bucks for maybe 15 hours of game.

The only thing Ive really heard that is letting this game down is the buggyness, especially considering the console versions are just as buggy as the PC version. Really, really odd.

I don't get it. Why do all games have to have a new engine in order to be considered sequels instead of rip offs? Obsidian did a WAY better job with the engine. The game is MILES better than the first Fallout and apart from a few bugs which can easily be patched I see no reason for all this hate.

If the game is anything like FO3, it's still a shoddy knockoff of the first Fallout.

Overall the same, but with small differences? So, the whole Halo series is a ripoff, too... Can't argue with that.

No one cried foul when Halo:CE -> 2 -> 3 -> Reach all looked the same..

I mean if Im correct all these have a sniper level...warthog/tank/banshee level...all had the same 5-10 dudes of different color...


BUT I suppose you cant kneecap Halo when its sold for multiplayer and not as a Story game...as no one has to review that part...

OT: Only thing that makes me punch my TV and throw my controller is how useless my companions are....also the guide is about 30% useless about 50% of the time...

Don't forget the beginning of CE and 2 being exactly the same... You are on a ship, get the basic tutorial stuff down, then ship gets attacked, you must kill everything on the ship.

Gotta say though, for old gamers like me, this game is a Fallout fan's wetdream. They have so many references to the original 2. Even the fact that the NCR is back, and MARCUS! How can you not like Marcus?

I'm trying to find a reason to hate the NCR and join Caesar's Legion, but the NCR are making it really hard for me to dislike them. And Caesar's Legion is doing a really good job of making me think they are evil. I always sided with the NCR in the previous Fallout games, and really want to see that they are a corrupt, evil group that I seek out and destroy every chance I get.

In other news, I think future Fallout games should use Obsidion as the writers/designers, and maybe Bethesda as the programmers/developers. New Vegas is way better in dialog, design, gameplay, and layout then Fallout 3 was. >.> The dry lakebed with the sand swirling around was a cool touch.
