I was a little upset that the engine was the same when I first found out.
It wasn't that I expected them to upgrade the old one, but maybe make a spin off for PC with classic Fallout isometric view.

The game is a sequel, it just happens to have a smaller map etc. There is plenty of new content, a new plot, new things to do and new places to explore, that's what makes it a sequel. We are getting a new game, stop being greedy and overly expectant.

Yes, it could have been DLC. But then again you could also have released Halo ODST as DLC, together with L4D2 and some other sequels I couldn't be bothered thinking of right now. And let's face it: Who's got the space to fit all that on their 360 hard drives? I know PCs can manage, but my Xbox sure can't.
That being said it would still cost the same, with the development taking the same amount of time, and the vast amount of content rivaling a 'true stand-alone game'.
So I guess my question to you would be, apart from having to buy a shiny new disc, what's your point?

Despite all the bugs, it's a fairly meaty game. Easily something I'd rather pay $60 for than, say, Halo Reach.
Those kinds of games are always excellent deals if you get a lot of fun out of them.

hmmm 188 say no 21 say yes..... i think you have your answer. personally i feel that new vegas is superior to fallout 3 in every way possible. i havent even experienced any glitches in my 6 hours in so far. my only regret about the whole thing is that i have a fucking job and cant sit at home playing it all day like i did with fallout 3 when i was unemployed

The game just came out, there will be bugs, there will not be any mods yet, the game world is bigger but the map just looks smaller, and it has a new story, new guns, new world and some new gameplay mechanics, so no it isn't an expansion pack you just want to complain so STFU and deal with it

For starters, there are more quests than even Fallout 3 had with all of its DLC combined. Also, there has got to have 2 or 3 times the weapons as Fallout 3 had and they have more depth with weapon mods and modded ammo. Then theres all the new miscellaneous items, the new faction system/depth, the companion system, and all of the gambling mini-games.
Did you ever play Shivering Isles? That was an expansion and it pales in comparison to New Vegas (as far as new content goes).
Yes it could have been an expansion. An expansion as big as the original game. That had none of the same characters as the original game. That had slightly different leveling up and core abilities as the original game. Oh wait, that seems like a NO!
I think the point was more that apart from length there is little to no difference between that and say Point Lookout, the scenery and npc's had changed, but it was the same gray place that was virtually indistinguishable. I will be honest, when I first saw that New Vegas adverts, I though it WAS DLC. I only realised it was a game in its own right like 4 days ago.Sleekgiant said:
Well it does some neat things (Damage per second and damage per shot, weird wasteland) all I can see is Fo3 mods and I can rattle those off but it is nice for the console owners who couldn't get that content and the humors back so that's nice.

just play the game until you get to vegas and then try to tell me it's a rip off
