With Microsoft having shot itself in the kneecap and reloading for more, it seems Sony is poised to take this generation. But is there a chance Nintendo might return? Personally, I feel they have a real chance. Equal third-party support, the promise of many first-party games, and actual backwards compatibility. But what do you think? Could they take back a piece of the pie, or do I just ship all my money to Sony?

It all depends what console supports used games and doesn't require constant online connection (DRM). That console will win

Nintendo has yet to pull the big guns. They still have Smash Brothers, 3D Mario, whatever Retro Studios is working on, and more that they have yet to show us. And I can guarantee that people will buy a WiiU for some of this stuff. They won't take the world by storm, but as long as they can keep a consistent stream of quality first-party games, which they are more than capable of doing, they'll be fine.

The Wii U currently seems to be dying, but with a few important first party releases to be announced very soon it could see something of a revival.

Losing the support of EA (I'm fully aware what a horrible company they are, but there's no denying they produce some of the most popular games) will be a big blow, as other third party publishers and developers may follow. Nintendo really need to pull something spectacular and step up their marketing (most people I know still haven't heard of the Wii U) in order to save their console.

...Well considering the WiiU..

I think the Xbox just killed itself on launch. It may climb back to be a contender, but right now no.

The PS4 seems to be doing a lot right, and will probably be the go to system this gen.

The WiiU needs people to do interesting things with it, else it will severely miss out. Mario and Zelda won't be able to carry it into the lead. It's also not really easy to compare it, because the experience on the WiiU is different.

I'd say that....no they aren't back, they are not "in"

Nintendo took a turn during the race...and it's now in a race all by itself.

Once Nintendo drop anyone one of their line up of System Sellers - core Mario entry, new Zelda, Smash Bros. - the Wii U will be at the top of it's game. Will that be enough to beat out Sony? Hard to say. Xbone just committed suicide on stage, leaving the Playstation 4 as the only honest next-generation gaming platform.

I think this generation is Sony's to lose at this point.

As long as they have Mario, LoZ, and Methroid. And there's a shit load of fans that will eat up those games coming out every year. There will be Nintendo.

Now I don't think WiiU will be as successful as the Wii was. But I don't ever see it falling out of the race unless they really fuck up like Sega did and introduced a bunch of consoles - wasting their money, and being unable to make up for it.

I agree with what most people have said here, Nintendo is definitely not out, but if Sony plays their cards right they can win, however the fact that Sony has stated that DRM can be applied by the publisher, and not them leaves me thinking that alot of the major publishers are going to abuse those features, which may hurt Sony in the long run.

But the gamers won't blame Sony, they'll blame the companies.

I never said they would blame Sony, but if the major publishers all use excessively harsh DRM for most of the games on the PS4, it will still cost sales. For example, i really enjoy steam and have made tons of purchases for it, but if the same game I'm considering purchasing shows up on GOG.com, I'm going to GOG to get it, I don't blame steam, i just choose what i feel benefits me most.

they've always had a potential chance, it's just that combined with Nintendo no doubt pulling out a system seller later this year along with MS pulling this off, their chances just jumped higher

Paging Dr. Jeffers. Dr Jeffers, you have a thread in the operating room.

Just like the 3DS having a bad start, the Wii U is having a bad start. But like the Wii U, I bet it is going to bounce right back into success. Not as much as the PS4 but enough to survive and thrive. We will eventually see the pad used intelligently rather than "lol let's add a backpack to a port". Smash will make sales. If the next 3D Mario is anything like Galaxy, it will do well and if they make a proper Zelda that isn't like SS or TP with bad dungeon design and motion controls, it will do even better.

I've known Nintendo all my life, and event with it's frequent (yeah that might be an understatement, but that's what I'm going with) remakes on it's oldest franchises, I've never really seen any point where they've been in danger of falling off the ledge (if that's the right analogy).

they're like the Disney of the video game industry, even when they fail, they know audiences will be looking forward to something good from them.

You take that back, sir. Twilight Princess is the best game of all time.

I was torn between the first and fourth options.
Microft just gave N more fighting chances. I know gamers by and large have no dignity so the XCRATE will likely do just fine, but not as well as it would without being cunts.

Let' see.

Most successful console last generation.

Most successful handheld since...like, forever.

Still pumping out games of some of the most popular and beloved franchises of all time that still appeal to newer generations (Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Pokemon, etc.)

>Finally up to HD graphics for maximum sexy Legend of Zelda games.

Hmm...I think it's a pretty safe bet they're gonna do fine.

Whether or not they "beat" PS4 is totally up in the air, too early to tell. I do feel that the Wii U will probably outsell the PS4, as again, it's Nintendo, who specialize in kid friendly and family friendly games.
