I recently played Portal 2 on my friend's PS3, and I just refused to stop. I think Portal 2 may be better than Portal 1, despite Yahtzee, because the puzzles that are there ARE good fun, and the story is witty, immersive, and more fleshed out than Portal 1's wake-up-solve-puzzles-destroy-tyrannical-robot setup I heard it had. Yes, I haven't actually played Portal 1, how do you know?

I'm just saying, Portal 1 cut a lot of corners, while Portal 2 was developed by the entire team giving it all their focus.

Just don't go yelling at me. Please.

EDIT: I would appreciate it of you would accompany your vote with a forum post. The more posts this gets, the more likely people will rock up and vote, so please post.

Both made me motion sick. So I couldn't play more than one hour.

Ah well.

I did like the writing on Portal 2 more.

I played Portal 1 again today, and I think it still stands up a bit better than the second one. That's not to say the second one is worse, but I like the first one slightly more.

Cave Johnson and that entire segment with the gels and the lower aperture was what made portal 2 better. The humor and writing was great, and it was cool to sort of travel through cave johnson's life as you progressed further up the shafts.

Portal 1 was like the demo for Portal 2. Not that Portal 1 was bad by any means.

Definitely portal 2, much more developed. And I loved all the new mechanics added to the game like the light paths, the vortexes, the gels, etc; it made it so much fun. And the writing was of course great.

I think that Portal 1 was just a little bit better, because the concept was newer (yes I know about narbacular drop), and there wasn't any of the old pixel-clicking style of having to 'look for the portalable surface before you can advance.'

That said both of the games were 2 of the best games ever.

Everyone argues that they spell out where to put the portals in Portal 2 and that it's a bad thing. I however don't remember having much trouble figuring out where to put portals in Portal 1, as 99% of them were painfully obvious.

I liked Portal 1 alot more but it's still largely flawed. They're both good games, but I didn't particularly love either of them.

Oh, it's true that, for the most part, it is fairly obvious. My only issue with Portal 2 is the segments where you're in a HUGE environment and you have to look around forever to find the one spot to put a portal to advance. Yahtzee mentioned this in his review as well.

Seriously? It's a sub 4 hour game and dirt cheap to boot, making it doubly odd to be attempting to kick off a discussion and admitting you've only every experienced one side of the equation.

Portal 1 by a little. I thoroughly enjoyed Portal 2, but it was simply not difficult, somewhat of a requirement in a puzzle game, and I also felt it didn't take us anywhere new. The slow realization and discover of what's going on in Portal 1 far beats out everything in Portal 2.

Well I have. I don't have a PS3 or XBox 360 and our family doesn't have a working credit card, so Steam is out of the equation. Plus, our laptops' graphic quality isn't THAT good.

So yes, it's possible to have only played one Portal game. I guess you've been swimming in money so long that you believed everyone was.

You've completely missed my point. I was questioning why you would start a discussion and state that you think Portal 2 is better than Portal 1 if you haven't even played it.

I'd say that Portal 2 is a little better, just because it does seem a little more fleshed out.
