It's not an issue at all where I live. I've never really encountered any genuine racism.

Racism may not be as apparent as in earlier generations, but anyone saying it isn't there, is not looking.
In most communities that I have seen first hand the problem of racism is no longer that the general community has an unfairly negative disposition against certain minorities. It is only that there are problem individuals who still are a little zealous with old prejudices.

Not for me, being white in a predominantly white area. I might feel differently though if I was from a different ethnic group!

I live in Utah, a backwards ass piece of shit town where racism might as well be law. I'm British, OH NO! My wife is Japanese, OH NO! I have an African mother, OH NO! My father was Norwegian, OH NO! I get treated like a piece of dirt and there are a lot of Mexicans here, and they get treated like pieces of shit as well. In Utah, if you aren't white, male, Mormon, and weren't born in Utah you are evil. They even consider you evil if you are a white male Mormon born OUTSIDE of Utah. Shame, because Mormons born out of Utah kick ass and are very friendly people. In Utah, they're all bigots. They even protested our wedding, which was held not in one of their churches but in a Synagogue as I was born Jewish, claiming that we were defiling one of their temples and that Japanese and half-African folk (Though they used much less friendly terms than those) don't belong here and shouldn't wed.

I wish that Utah Mormons were as kick ass as non Utahn Mormons. And not racist or sexist.

San Francisco = capital of the world for queers. there is so much hate in this city and nearly every group throws crap at each other it's AWESOME!!!! going down to hunters point at night and watching the bloods shoot it out with the crips off of silver terrace is a show in itself. this town states it's soo accepting of others but in reality people just keep their hate in their minds and then vent in private or on the billboards, or even using vandalism....did u know one of the largest chapters of the KKK resides in the bay area

I live in South West Florida, there's a pretty large Haitian and Mexican-American population. Some the Spanish kids dislike both Caucasian and African/Haitian American and Haitians just seem to dislike only the racist ones, and the Caucasian people don't bother or ridicule the Haitians. It's pretty dumb, I thought it was only a High school kinda thing but it's pretty rampant everywhere around here and it's getting kinda violent I've noticed.

I live in Sweden, and for some reason we have a racist (if not a nazi) party in our parliament, known as The Swedish Democrats. So they're an issue, yes.

I live in Dublin and I get the feeling racism is slowly growing.

Though it's not out of plain hatred for other races, more due to ignorance and hypocrisy. With the recession and the highest rates of unemployment in 30 odd years, people suddenly want to claim back the "crap" jobs they turned their noses up and let the immigrants do: being a shop cleaner, working in McDonalds etc.

This coming from a people who silently invaded any country that had a job going during the 70s and 80s.

Kinda, there's a good deal of "accepted" racism towards Reserve Natives but other than that it's largely fine so long as you speak decent english... even then MOST people won't really care.

I live in Maryland. If you consider it's entire history, then yes: Racism has been an issue here. However, I have not experienced real racism in my lifetime. Sure, every once in a while I'll see something derogative in a bathroom stall, but that's not something serious.

Absolutely. I've been met at the door of bars and told I'm not welcome. I've had friends who have been refused services like haircuts, and a dentist once told my wife he's afraid to treat our kind because he's afraid one of us might have AIDS.

Pekin, Illinois

Our school mascot used to be the "Pekin Chinks."

If you've ever seen the movie relative strangers, our town is where the hick parents came from. Yeah, it's a pretty big issue out here...

Yeah it is, I live in South Carolina. Law Enforcement is the biggest issue. Police pulled a gun on my friend (and roommate) because they thought he had just robbed a Little Cricket store. He was riding his bike back home after we had just eaten at a sushi place and was dressed as preppy as can be. They asked him about his gang bandanna, to which he responded, "This? THIS IS A SCARF! Look at it!"

Questioning the guy maybe wouldn't be too bad. Put immediately going for the gun? No excuse.

So yeah, racist policemen are a big issue. Other racists are generally backwoods types who only live around their family, and they're slowly dying out. Good riddance, I say.
