Poll: Is Slipknot metal?

Between metal fans I see a lot of controversy surrounding Slipknot and no one seems to be able to agree whether or not the band is metal.

My opinion is that they're more metal than a lot of bands that people seem to obsess about. This is their newest single; what do you think?

Yes however they are still not good. There is only like 3 songs of theirs I like and none of them involve random screaming.

Whether they are good or not is your opinion, and thus it is subjective.

I have all of their songs on my mp3, and while they scream a lot, none of it is really random. It's all got a purpose.

Of course it's metal. However, that doesn't mean it's good metal. I'm too lazy to describe its subgenre.

People who say it's not metal are just saying that metaphorically, as in "it's a disgrace to the metal genre".

Yes, they are. What else would they be? Rap? I'm not really a fan though. I prefer sounds a little more cerebral. Something with a more clearly defined meaning. And instrumentals. You never know how good a band is till they do an instrumental. Thats why I like rush and buckethead.

Yes they are metal. But I do not like most of their music. I think they take up to much of the spotlight for metal; in a bad way.

Well it sounds terrible and the video looks terrible. Though metal isn't my type of music, but then again my brother listens to metal all the time and he still hates Slipknot.

I think only a couple of their songs actually qualify as nu-metal, since the singer only raps in a couple songs.

Also, I hear a lot of people saying that they "grew out of Slipknot"; what's that all about?

I've always considered them metal, but I've heard them been referred to as shock rock before.
I like some of their songs but I usually only listen to them when I'm angry or when I want to annoy my neighbors.
