Does no one remember the whole Rose Tyler situation?
But that was like one whole regeneration ago! Just because HE was straight doesn't mean that matt smith isn't going to suddenly develop an interest in gay bondage and leather pubs.

Need a new option for the poll. "Definately absolutely gay!!! (because he must have my babies now!!!)

edit: we're talking about the current doctor, anything can change after regeneration!

edit: sorry it's a bit late, there's the Bi option
Yeah, I voted Bi. Cause, let's face it, all the human characters are aliens. Of course, much like Asari, everyone loves humans. ^^

Also, it is suggested at one point that the doctor COULD, in theory, regenerate into a woman. I think all Timelords must be Bi just to deal with that possibility.

This particular Doctor does seem rather gay-er than previous ones. Well, apart from the 2nd Doctor who was totally gay for Jamie.

Also, I really don't think this Doctor is Asexual. If ANY Doctor was asexual, it was the 5th Doctor. He was surrounded by attractive, willing women (and men) and never made a move.

Also, to those saying that Doctor Who is a kids show... WTF?!? A TV series with a higher corpse count does not exist. If Doctor Who is a kids show, then Saw is family entertainment.

The Doctor can't be gay, due to his offspring and his obvious love for Rose Tyler but I'm sure some fans like the possibility that he could be bi.

To a degree, of course, personality changes with the regenerations. So it could change too.

I'm fairly certain that the asexual 5th doctor thing is exactly what matt smith is playing toward. Complicated by the fact that he clearly (to him anyway) ends up in a relationship with river and/or possibly amy at some point. Which is actually kind of a clever plot hook. It's not gay, it's just extremely british. This is exactly what makes slashfics and shipping so utterly idiotic.

If you want a crowning irony, the most pointedly hetero doctor was the first. I think it far more likely that generally speaking he just plain doesn't see humans that way. They're pals. Comrades. Buddys. People he lets tag along to keep him sane.

But again it comes down to pure wishful thinking. It's just not that big a deal to him. It'd be like being 80 and being hit on by a 5 year old. Just because you're not burning with desire to tap that, does not a pole smoker make.

>_< it is obvious he doesn't care about sex or species...infact he actually admits to it atleast once that exact line.

words said to male characters and female...Just because you have kids or grand kids whatever has no bearing upon your sexuality.

I rather thought this whole River Song thing was evidence to the contrary. I mean, they will have a fairly serious relationship sometime in his future and her past, correct?

Also, wasn't it this Doctor who had some sort of relationship with Elizabeth I off-screen? I dunno, time travel and regeneration make this very complicated...

I really doubt the BBC would dare to air that, considering doctor who is a family/kids show.
Except that Captain Jack is gay (or bi?) and the end of the most recent episode featured a man stating that he wanted to marry a man

Why does everyone with an extroverted personality have to be gay now?
Pfft...

extroverted... introverted...

people think anyone with either is gay.

Because people are stupid and ignorant.

Which I suspect is the reason this thread exists at all.

What if the Doctor (the current one or any of the others) is gay?

So what?

What does it matter?

Considering his relationship with River is so heavily implied I'm gonna say no.
Also, Wikipedia lists the episode after next as apparently being titled "The Doctor's Wife".

Um... He has a daughter and a wife... Sooo, no?

Possibly bi, simply because in all probability he's genderless.

And if you didn't pick up on it, he panicked when River kissed him because he just wasn't expecting it, and that isn't the time when it should have happened.

yes, i could have just said, "is doctor who gay?" but i like to be accurate and correct, ok?

alright, so he flirted with River but he was waving his hands around like Bernard Black on a Saturday when she was kissing him and backed away from her afterwards, also he prances around the place all the time, frequently boasts of men who were attracted to him and described Amy's friend Jeff as "good-looking", i dunno, it's just the feeling i get! what do we think?

also, River frequently kissing the doctor could mostly refer to future regenerations

edit: ok, a lot of people are bringing up stuff like Rose and the doctor's kids, don't forget, we're talking about the current doctor, anything can change after regeneration!

Regarding your edit, River can't have kissed future generations. The events of The Impossible Astronaut, and her reaction to his apparent death, show that she only knows the Doctor in his current incarnation, and once briefly as David Tennant's version before she 'dies'. If she knew him in any other incarnation that hasn't already appeared (none of whom were gay or bi, with the possible exception of the Ninth being bi, though bear in mind that was only ever with Jack), then he couldn't have died as the Eleventh Doctor, because it would make her knowing him in future incarnations completely impossible.

As to his reaction when she kissed him, it was basically the fact that a woman he'd come to regard as a close friend suddenly kisses him with the sort of passion you'd only expect from an established couple, then claim it's not the first time they've done so. His reaction is exactly the same as what most guys would do, myself included, regardless of what we'd like to believe and regardless of how straight we may consider ourselves (and I for one reckon Alex Kingston, who plays River, is indeed something of a MILF :D). Doesn't mean he's gay. Though even if he was, which it seems isn't the case on the whole (especially if he does indeed start something with River, as the case would appear to be), it certainly wouldn't be a problem... :p
