It's got to do with development time. DA2 was massively rushed, and it showed. It's not like Bioware is now incapable of making a good game, if EA learned their lesson then I think the next game will be much better. The also can't skimp on the RPG elements. If I'm swinging a sword at things, it's usually only a button masher or an RPG. Button mashers are easy to find, RPGs, much less so.

March called... they want their tired topic back. Sorry, I'm just being an ass over here.

Yeah I think there's still hope for Dragon Age. Big publishers love big franchises, so EA isn't gonna give up on it just yet. And considering how much sh*t it received all over the board, I don't think Bioware is gonna go into it without some serious consideration. As long as they don't rush it out the gate, Dragon Age can still be salvaged.

I preferred DA:2 over DA:O. The combat was tighter, The story was interesting (not that DA:O's wasn't) and the character interaction was far better.

Yes it ended abruptly, yes you could say that the whole story was little more than a placeholder but I prefer Hawk to the Warden; He has something to lose and he has a past and builds him/herself a future while the Warden is a cookie cut fantasy hero out saving the realm.

The copy pasta environments were a let down but lest we forget they were present in DA:O as well so I'm loathe to hold that against it.

Some people might not have liked the inability to dress up the party members but I felt Bioware made a good decision in giving each party member a 'look' and sticking to it.

All in all DA:2 wasn't the greatest game, but it wasn't a franchise killer IMO and it did a lot to fix the faults with DA:O (Namely combat and a lack of a graphical style).

Oh look, 'another' thread on the escapist where some user is claiming a series needs to be fixed.

Dragon age 2 is a middle ground of a game and if you 'really' were so engrossed with this rich and deep world, you'd be able to realize that ONE game alone is not going to ruin the franchise as a whole. There still much potential in the world of thedas and to NOT have a game be a stepping stone for elements in the overall plot would be shooting themselves in the foot. If you're as dedicated of a fan as you are, you need to sit back and absorb in everything the games have offered lore wise... There's a lot to take in and a whole hell of a lot of stuff to theorize about too.

Both in finding the right gameplay elements and the overall story, DAII is a necessity in what looks like a five to six game franchise. And yes, I'm dead serious in my belief that there is enough background and lore to fuel the game for six CORE games for the series. Dropping the series this early on is a foolish mistake to make, as the potential from this series has yet to be fully tapped.

Is there anything Bioware could do better to save Dragon Age as a franchise, or did they pretty well kill it with Dragon Age 2?
Okay. I finished playing DA2 a couple of days ago. Here's my take:

Dragon Age 2 = Iron Man 2.

Both are very good entries that have to be compared to their better predecessor.

There is nothing wrong with Dragon Age 2. It's a great game.

It's just not DA:O.

Basically, DA2 is a massive trailer for DA3. It introduces another important character, and sets up the plot for DA3 where the character from DA:O needs to come back and fix things.

Just like how Iron Man 2 was just a massive trailer for the Avengers movie.

So yeah. Nothing wrong with DA2 other than it had to follow DA:O.
This.
I liked both games, since they were both narrative heavy. But it just didn't feel like the same franchise. I got over it after a few hours, and enjoyed it from there on.

i actually enjoyed DA2 but i do agree DA:O was much better. i think DA3 needs to have a blending of the two to be successful. DA:O had the amazing story and atmosphere but DA2 had better, more engaging combat (although i wish it were a little more strategic) but for the simple fact that the game shipped only 3/5 complete made me pissed off. i refuse to buy any DLC for DA2 because of that simple fact. DLC should finish the story for you but rather continue it

They will release another one, everyone will buy it, more people will moan. rinse, repeat.

Yeah DA:2 had some issues (copy paste much) but all round II found it a solid game, and I preferred the new combat, it was much prettier and more engaging.

Although I agree in all DA > DA2.

The series does not need saving, it is dramatic to think so. Sonic has done perfectly well despite being dead for years.
Damn... Are you me? 'Cause you just said everything I was thinking of.

But...I adored Dragon Age 2's characters.

It's been a while since I've felt a bond with characters so strongly. Even L.A. Noire didn't get me to feel the same. Red Dead was the last.

Dragon Age 2 is a great game...heck Dragon Age Facebook game is highly addictive too and I never thought I'd play one of those games. As with most people here I loved the DA:O the most as well.

The fans have been loud and clear about what they didn't like about DA2...and so I fully expect the DA3 to be an improvement. I would be extremely surprised if it went back to DA:O style complexity though...that kind of game no longer needs to exist.

I would expect more of what DA2 delivered but with tweaks such as customizable companions and an end to recycled backgrounds.

There's no hope for any game in the world, we're all doomed to play this commercialized junk that big companies like EA give to us.

Although, I had more fun with DA2 than I had with DA:O.

Dragon Age 2 was an 8/10 game, fine by its own rights. Vastly different, which is what a sequel SHOULD be, and upset old school RPG fans who loved DA:O. It did NOT deserve the amount of hate it got.

Personally I found the first one to be terrible so unless they take it right back to the drawing board I'd have to say nay.

A game sells over 2 million copies and is generally well-received, and you think the franchise is in danger?
