Hi guys, local lurker here.

I know we're a little past the Nintendo doom and gloom days, especially with the announcement of the NX, but I wanted to ask a very honest and general question to the people here.

The list goes on and on. After a largely mishandled console, after the creator program and Youtube copyright strikes, virtual console prices, censorship, region-locking, amiibos, and misuse or growing track record of bad first party licensed games (Star Fox, Other M, Galactic Federation)... do you like, or care about Nintendo's well-being in the future?

In your opinion, is Nintendo one of the last bastions of fun and wholesomeness in games, or is it a company stuck in a past that the world would soon be better without?

Let me know your thoughts.

I don't really care either way.

Nintendo can exist and make the games they want. I have no ill will towards what they are doing and creating. But I have no real intention of buying another Nintendo console (at least until they make a proper new handheld instead of that "NEW 3DS bullshit").

I'll always love Nintendo.

That being said, I don't know if I'm going to be giving them more money.

Well, I'm sort of holding my breathe until the NX is actually revealed, and I am very distrusting of their Businessman CEO, but until Iwata died, Nintendo was a game developer run by game developers, and I think that was a big deal. The Wii U is also the only console today that still does what consoles do. Pop in a game and it plays, and focuses on gaming, not movies or music or fitness programs.

Plus they actually try to be innovative. Servicable motion-controls, 3D, touch-screens that work. And I like Star Fox Zero. I hope they make more games that improve on the controls, sure, but the hate for the game is unwarranted.

So unless the NX is Nintendo saying "We're going mobile only, fuck you all", then I will likely maintain my love for them, even if they don't always do the best things. (Their youtube policies are terrible and undefendable)

This. Nothing they make interest me, but i see no reason to dislike them (well everything except their Youtube policies)

Nintendo.

I can't tell if it's on purpose or if it's because they're so out of touch with the rest of the industry, but a lot of their decisions and policies definitely haven't endeared them much to me over the last few years.

- Product Shortages with amiibo
- Region locking systems
- Censoring game content (not talking about clothing underaged girls or removing boob sliders)
- Not releasing fully translated games outside of one region, even as downloads
- Archaic account management tied to one system at a time
- Neglecting a huge library of first party IP in favor of safe bet iterations
- Not packing chargers with New 3DSs
- Limiting availability of the smaller New 3DS in North America to blink and you'll miss them special bundles.
- Refusal to lower the prices on their products until well after anyone would bother to pick them up anymore for fear of "devaluing their products"
- shoe horning "gimmicks" to the detriment of games (Star Fox Zero)
- Miyamoto. Yeah, his involvement in developing games is more of a detriment than anything else in more recent releases. Just because he thinks Mario doesn't need a story doesn't mean there shouldn't be stories or characterization in any of his games. Also, I've played Star Fox on SNES and N64, I don't need the same story told to me a third time with slight variations. I honestly think people are afraid to challenge or question him just because of his legacy.

They're by no means the worst company ever, but damn is it hard for me to keep supporting them with a lot of these anticonsumer decisions.
Here, I'll quote CircularLogic88 from a couple days ago. I'm done with Nintendo for the time being. I'm just tired of putting up with all of the above. I don't see much value anymore. I'm happy with my 3DS, but I won't being buying a new system anytime soon.

Considering that the internet just collectively had an erection over leaked ARTWORK to the new Zelda, how Link is gracing Best Buy's front page in preparation for E3, how everyone is trying to get every scrap of info they can of the new Pokemon, I think we can conclude there is more than enough. I just find it hilarious how these kinds of topics crop up right around when Nintendo has done something big, is going to announce something big, is doing well, or when everyone else just looks boring. It's like there needs to be something to make a company not look as successful as they are.

I love Nintendo as much as a man can love a foreign multi-million dollar corporation.
Which is a little bit, I guess?
Yeah they do some stupid shit but nothing bad enough for me to boycott them or anything. The Wii U was a step in the right direction, most games I've played for it I just used the gamepad as a second screen.
Actually playing Mario Maker while watching football is such an enjoyable experience that maybe I do actually love them

Don't really care. I like my Wii U just fine and it's gave me some good games but as a company I love them about as much any other gargantuan hydra.

I'm puzzled by this question, I like Nintendo products, the games of course and the guys who work there, but I'm split on actual thoughts on the company driven by people we rarely see or hear of. I'll have to say yes.

" most of times nintendo do is rehash same 80s franchise over and over and over again."
To this day this is the one criticism of Nintendo that, to me, is the most headscratching. What if they make new games for franchises that started in the 80's? Mario, Samus and Zelda started with games that nowadays are 6/10 at best, polished their mechanics in the Super Nintendo, made the gracious leap into 3D with critically acclaimed titles each and to this day continue releasing games of quality (and these are just some of the examples), I fail to see the problem of franchises like these as opposed to the actual annual franchises like Ubisoft's Just Dance or the EA's Sports games.

Nintendo has always been flawed. It's just as flawed as Valve, Sony, and... well, no one is as flawed as Microsoft.

It's only recently that people have started to take them to task for their awful decisions. And they should be criticized for those decisions. They're anti-consumer. Furthermore, Nintendo is far from the last bastion of fun in gaming. I like experimental games. I like games with a clever story, or that make me think. I like games that push boundaries. I like The Last of Us, Dark Soul's, Bloodborne, Undertale, and Spec-Ops. Nintendo hasn't really innovated in a long time. I love Nintendo's unique voice in gaming. I think that the industry would be hurt if it was removed. But, for all its charm, it has warts like everyone else. It's not that Nintendo is worse then everyone else. It's that Nintendo fans have always been very insular in the gaming community, and have always pretended like Nintendo was superior to everyone else, when in reality they're about the same. Unfortunately, with their new president in charge, I expect that the company is in for some changes.

The Nintendo faithful will always love Nintendo, but they need to finally speak up and criticize Nintendo for is mistakes. If you love something, you should try to improve it.

I never gave up on them.
I did give up on their home consoles. Their handhelds are fine though.
Your poll needs an option for people who never liked them.

I used to like Nintendo but then I started learning more about NOA, I really hate NOA. They don't understand the internet, they don't want to localize games, hell they made Xenoblade Chronicles a GAMESTOP EXCLUSIVE and I will hate them forever for that. Don't even get me started on Amiibo and their shitty practices with the new 3ds in North America. With the position they are in they have no right to be the way they are.

I don't really care about their games anymore, but I still respect them as a company. Much more than MS, that's for sure.

The last Nintendo console I owned was the Gamecube, but I've owned every single handheld they've made.

That should spell out how I feel about Nintendo.

I care more about their handheld games since I think they are better than their console games, and tend to be quirkier with a lot less bullshit attached to them. The JRPGs are pretty legit, and Pokemon.

I don't know if I'd buy another console from them since the past two offerings did nothing for me, but their handhelds have been pretty solid, in my opinion. That's not to say I like the fact that their online store is frustrating, to put it nicely. The fact that they still region lock is horse shit, and censoring content is beyond stupid now. I get that they're the "family friendly" company, but come on. Their relationship with Youtube is just strange and the fact that they didn't ship chargers with the latest handheld was just dumb.

So, I guess my relationship with Nintendo is complicated.
