Poll: Is there such a thing as a "Must Play" game?

Is there any game, that if you've never played it before, you simply must play it, at any cost?

A game like that.

Personally, I don't think there is any "must play" game out there. There are plenty of good games, but is there really a game that EVERYONE must play?

There are plenty of classics, too. But some of them have not aged as well as we thought.

Your opinions?

As a "must play" simply for the experience I'd say We Love Katamari. Because it's...well, fucking insane.

At the end of the day, I feel there's no harm in telling somebody about a game that you personally love and would like it moreso if they saw it in the same way you did, enjoying it just as much too.
It's tricky to see what game I'd pick as one that I feel everybody has to have least tried once in their lifetime so I pick....either anything from the Jak and Daxter set (six games right there of varying genre's besides it's mainstream 3D platforming) or any Sonic game that wasn't 3D ironically seeing as that's a total opposite to my first choice heh.

There are many such games, Portal, Shadow Of The Colossus, Homeworld, Fatal Frame 2 and recently Demon's Souls (under "even if you don't know if you'll like it") and I'm probably forgetting like a dozen.

I never said anything of the sort. I was suggesting the game, and stating how I think good Must Plays are portable.

Most certainly. There are many games that everyone considering himself to be a "gamer" should experience. Buying a console for one game or franchise is more subjective, but not unheard of. For me, the series i even got a console for is...

Yes there are. All (W)RPG fans should experience at least one of the older Infinity Engine games. All (J)RPG fans should experience at least one Final Fantasy (and all of Kingdom Hearts...)

All FPS fans should play Doom.

All gamers should play Shadow of the Colossus.

I mean, some people say that the God of War and the Metal Gear Solid games are must-play games but I haven't played a single one of them aside from demos and, well, I'm not particularly inclined to. And my gaming recommendations no doubt would be met by scorn by an equal number of people.

Ahh, as much as I enjoyed God of War, it was far from a must play. MGS, well, I didn't even play it yet, except for the well-reviewed PSP game. And that sucked, imo.

Since what video games you play are based on you opinions and taste,there is no real "must play" game.Sure there might be games that are like the 1.5th coming of Christ,but that still doesn't mean that you have to play it.
