I imagine I'd feel the same way way about a woman wearing one of these things out in public as I would about a guy who puts balls on his truck or wears one of those "The Man, The Legend" shirts (et al).

As in, 'I don't think we can be friends'.

I'm all for loving your body and taking care of yourself, but the blatant shock factor inherent in these screams "My parents didn't hug me enough".

Yes, I would like to live in a society where all parts of the body are socially acceptable and people don't think seeing breasts and penises will corrupt the youth. Unfortunately, in this society, at this time, things like this symbolize not health and pride, but shock value and desire for attention.

Also, for the people saying out society isn't heavily weighed toward phallic imagery, I think you're very wrong. I'm not talking about guns and swords and all that designed-for-function nonsense, I mean the fact that, YES, you can get wallets with penises emblazoned across them. Not to mention pretty much any kind of clothing, keychain, or other accessory you'd prefer. People LOVE to call attention to their penises, and there's a booming industry for merchandise that caters to that.

I doubt many of you own a whole lot of "I heart my privates" apparel (I hope you don't, anyway) but it's out there.

You can buy a scrotum for your car. I mean COME ON.

(Woman, equal rights enthusiast)
Well maybe where you live guys are psychotic about carrying about penile symbols but I have yet to even hear of or see a product with a cock on it. No cars have balls, no cock wallets, not penile chains or anything else. There are those "The man, The legned" shirts though.
Oh man, where do you live? I want to come live in this wondrous land of magic where men don't put balls on their trucks.
The wonderful and mystical Republic of Ireland. Before this thread I had never even heard of truck-sacks. I think they are an indication of someone who should be punched in the face more often.

I think the feminist tag is more of a cheap attempt to grab customers.
Yeah, same.
A lot of companies do shit like this. Movies do it, too. Mulan and Pocahontas were both written the way they are in an attempt to make feminists happy. Joss Whedon does the same with many of his female characters. It's all pretty much the same (although on a slightly less shocking/possibly pornographic level); shallow, formulaic attention getters serving no greater purpose than to attract an audience when it otherwise wouldn't have one, giving the appearance of feminism without having to actually understand what the movement really represents and means.
What bothers me is that people actually buy it.
He does good banter though.

I know men are accused of making monuments in shapes of certain.... appendages. But even if that were true, this is going over the top.

Ugh :S Well, I wouldn't wear such a thing. Ever. Whoever wants it, let them have it, but I think it's... kinda distracting and certainly not feminist. I don't think the point of feminism is to be hilariously over-proud of your gender and shove it up everyone's face; "Oooh, I have a vagina, WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT, here, LOOK AT IT!". Yeah, you and the rest three billion people on Earth. There is really no other thing it could possibly symbolize, except making women feel exposed and naked while strolling through the streets; how is that feminist? I don't need to be praised because I'm a female and because I have a vagina and I don't need to shove it up into people's faces; I see no other purpose in this kind of jewellery. Maybe if they're a member of a cult that worships fertility. Vagina-things and penis-things were really popular back in the ancient times, but I certainly doubt this was made as a tribute to the ancient cults. I could be wrong.

And vaginas around your neck are most certainly not going to make those chauvinistic men think of you in a better way, so really no point in it. They (chauvinists) already think of us as of walking vaginas that make sandwiches, so why give them a reason to enhance that opinion of theirs?

If the only purpose this jewellery has is to look pretty... >_> Well, de gustibus...

*Must resist obvious play on title*

If this is okay for women to carry around does that mean men can get penis stuff and carry it around too? I mean besides ridiculous phallic-shaped stuff...
The title wasn't intentional but hey it worked out.
I'm just surprised that with five pages of reply's only 4 some people have actually refrenced 300, and one of them didn't even go all the way.

Fuck it:

madness?

This.
IS.

Some women find this kind of stuff empowering. Good for them, I guess. There are men who decorate their trucks with hanging testicles, so... i suppose this is the balance? Being a woman, I don't quite get it, and I don't see how showing around the stylized form of my genitals makes me a more powerful figure, or more in tune with my femininity or anything.

I'm a heterosexual dude, and I like women as much as the next guy, but even I found that pretty fucking disturbing.

Madness? THESE ARE VAGINAAAS!!! And if girls can wear these then I see no reason why us men can't strap fake penises to our clothing accessories.

So...this is supposed to be feminist...

...it's empowering women by allowing them to express themselves through these products?

...they're expressing themselves with images of the very basic, physical/biological differences that identify them as women: the vagina, the uterus, etc. Therefore, any women who uses these to express their femininity is only using physical parts to do so.

...how is that not just taking objectifying women to a new extreme? They are defining themselves by the very body parts that a sane feminist takes pride in being more than. These items just seem to say "Behold! I am a woman, for I have a vagina!"

Something tells me whoever thought this up is just waiting for someone to criticize it, then claim it's a sexist man trying to censor femininity. In reality, this just sets back any feminist cause. A lot.
Well just reading that reminded me of someon I can't think of when he said;
"Black men were brought to America bound in chains and once they finally broke free they watched as their sons bought their own." Talking about rappers and the bling culture.

What the fuck did I just look at? Pins that look like vaginas? Huh, not to bad. At least there isn't one that fits inside it that looks like a penis.

Alright... it's hard to choose just one option on the poll: the battle between shock, disbelief, and the joy of offering the same shock and disbelief to others are pretty much tied (I would giggle quite merrily if I gave one of those to a friend of mine).

To answer your question, that's not feminism, that's fucked up.

It's not exactly shocking to me, having seen some sex shops. In Japan, no less. Some seriously crazy stuff happen there. But I have to say that most of that is in pretty poor taste. I mean, sure, you can go ahead and have vulvae plastered around your bedroom if you feel like, but it hardly makes good jewelry. Nor do they make good cell phone straps.

Agreed. Also, anyone who wears anything from that site is an attention whore.
