I just got in a heated argument with some female friends of mine about not having money to go to s local haunted house. So they offered to pay my admission fee. Without thinking I replied "I'm not letting a bunch of girls pay my admit ion." That was a mistake. Now I have three angry girls riding my ass about how sexist I am.

I tried to inform them that I was only trying to be polite, chivalrous even, but they wouldn't take it. So now I've turned to internet for my answer.

Edit: I do have to admit that I probably said it at a bad time. It was mid argument after I had refused a few times. They asked why and so I said in a flash of anger and trying to get back to my video games as fast as possible ( this conversation was over AIM) I just typed in that in the 15 seconds of spawn time.

No it wasn't sexist, it also wasn't very tactful. Us women get offended for the silliest reasons.

I wouldn't call it sexist because you didn't intend it that way. I'm assuming you didn't want your pride to be hurt.
Either way, your still pretty fucked.

I'm going to be perfectly honest, mate. YES. It is sexist. The gender of the person should not matter when they are offering to bring you somewhere.

As far as it goes for me, I don't like anyone paying my way, so I refuse period.

i guess it could be, depending on how you feel about it.

I'd just apologize to them, and explain that it came out wrong.

It really wasn't sexist.

Stupid? Yes. But sexist? Not really. Just say it's a stupid male pride thing about paving your own way in the world, they'll probably end up making some stupid comments about it, and than all will be well.

No. In fact, I never place debts on chicks mostly because I'd hate to...I dunno, akshually.

I wouldn't call it super sexist, but maybe, just a little. It's probably how I would have reacted as well but without being such a *dick* about it. Seems that the way it came out made the women think your a douche, which I can't really deny / say it's undeserved. Try and think before you say.

It is a bit sexist, of course it depends on how it came out. If you just said, "Nah i don't want someone els paying for my blah blah blah" then it wouldn't be a bit bad. It probably makes them feel lesser then you because you said "No i dont want girls paying for me" (paraphrasing of course, but thats what they heard in their minds). To you it may not be sexist but to them it was.

I don't think you were trying to be, but you really couldn't have been more tactless.

It sounds sexist, I believe they took it as; if they were guys you would have had no problem with taking their money.

Well theres good chivalry and then there bad chivalry. You my friend chose to roll with bad chivalry, or chivalry that was poorly delivered. You might not have meant to hurt their feelings, but you didn't really think about whether or not you would.

That what I meant but they took it the wrong way.

You could always tell them that they can pay your admission fee to go to the haunted house and ask if they would feel better about it. I mean if that was what the argument started about perhaps if you let them pay for you it would convince them you are not sexist.

Strictly speaking, sexism is discrimination based on gender, so yeah I guess you could say that being chivalrous can be sexist. But for me there the lines get a bit blurred since it's normally positive discrimination, and I have nothing against that.

You could of just said "I'm not letting someone else pay for my admission fees" though, which would of been better all round really. So next time just do that, since noone will get offended.
