I position my hands on the steering wheel so that it looks like Superman does when he's flying.

When I was a kid I did this all the time on the bus or in the car. Now I drive most places, so my eyes are on the road. I always pictured an avatar of my idealized self on a hoverboard jumping the approaches from ditch to ditch, grinding on power lines, and skitching (grabbing bumper for a ride) on nearby cars when they entered my field of view. When I hit my goth stage, it changed to a rolling darkness consuming everything in its path, or a shadowy figure moving in impossible ways, switching from biped to quadruped movement and back on the fly.

Something I have been wondering is if on a long road-trip do you imagine a being running beside you as you drive? Or is this just a weird habit? If so, What do you imagine?

I do it all the time when on buses and the such to prevent boredom, I tend to imagine a skateboarder because it used to be one of my hobbies.
i... used to imagine a ninja jumping from building to building and shuriken-ing cars and passers-by... You May Fire at will :)

I can remember doing it once but usually I get lost in my own little world, peaking out of it just to see how much longer till I have to get off.

What I have done more is, trying and keep my eyes in one spot and not following anything with my eyes. It's harder to do than it sounds, give it try.

I usally imagine stuff like that, even on shorter trips.

I do it, but I always imagine it as some kind of psychedelic wolf-thing that changes depending on the music the radio's playing.

Woah, lots of other people do this. I used to have some guy on a skateboard grinding on the highway rails, or some dude in yellow running next to the car. More recently it's been a giant who beats the shit out of every sign and telephone pole on the right side of the road.

Only on a motorway (or 'highway' to Americans), but I thought it was just me who did it.

I do that too. Especially when I was a kid.

When we were on long bus rides, I'd usually look out the window and imagine something alongside us, on a motorbike. It wasn't human, nor animal, or AI. Just... something.

Back then my imagination was basically the wild-child of my mind. Now it's taking the back seat, being a boring old spod who can't think of anything interesting other than newspaper-cross-word puzzles.

Oh man I used to do this as a kid. I still do on long trips. I can't believe other people do it I always thought it was a bit weird though I loved to do it.

A lot. I usually imagine it jumping over the obstacles we pass, or jumping from high point to high point. It's very entertaining.
I was surprised the first time I found out how many people did this.

I often also imagine some kind of laser beam coming from the car and following the ground, moving with the contours of the terrain like some 3D scanner or something.
And now I am as well.

I do it all the time as well. Sometimes I imagine myself running along but most of the time it's either Altair or Ezio from Assassin's Creed.
