Yes it is.

Sometimes it can be the difference from having a Bruise to having Brain Damage.

The body can take a beating, i can prove that, but the Brain is pretty fragile.
You can get hit by a car and walk away from it, iv seen it happen but, you can just fall off your bike and land on your head and suffer irreversible Bran Damage if your not wearing a helmet.
Though while i CAN'T protect you from everything, its one of the best things you can do to protect yourself.
Same with Knee and Elbow Pads.
There not just for stopping cuts and scrapes, they help cushion your joints to lessen the Damage they might take in a fall.

Yes. Because while wearing a helmet doesn't look cool, lets see how cool you look in the hospital with a head injury.

Sometimes. My friend once bailed on his bike (while wearing a helmet) and landed directly on his head and got a concussion. So the helmet saved his life in the short term, but if that concussion took a turn for the worse, it still technically wouldn't have saved his life. It did though, so no worries.

Also, not even two months after the first incident, the same person got on his bike, did a bunny-hop off of a 6-stair set, bailed, and landed on his leg breaking it. He was once again wearing a helmet.

Helmet didn't do much right there, did it?

tl;dr

Helmets are usually helpful for head injuries but for anything else they're useless.

And let's be honest OP, they DO look kinda silly. I mean, I wouldn't do any BMX stuff without one, but if I'm just riding around on my bike, I usually don't wear one.

Yeah, helmets look a little ridiculous, but I've gotten in accidents just biking around that also look ridiculous, and the helmet saved my life.

The answer's yes. As someone else said, that it's even a question is its answer.

Trust me on this, I'm speaking from experience.

I never wear a bike helmet, never felt that i needed one either.

Yes i am aware that going 30mph down a steep road with no hands could give me some nasty road rash. That is that chance i wish to take and i'm fine with that. I do wear a helmet on my motorbike though :p Only a few times have i gone off without one...no police watching >:3

Umm, next time you make a thread with a poll can you make sure the title and poll ask the same thing. [sub]Or it was a stroke of genius designed to make people post their answer to the title too!?[/sub]

Is it worth wearing a healmet? Yes.

Do I? No. The only reason being that I can't be arsed lugging it around with me all day. Stupid and lazy? Aye, those too.

not all helmets are so ridiculous looking
but a dumb looking helmet is better than a dumb looking head (that is, one that's smashed open/caved in by the pavement or whatever)

I know it's the law to wear one around here, but I haven't really heard of much follow-up by law enforcement
I suppose regular bikers in their latex and nice bikes wear helmets, but I've seen a lotta kids riding along the sidewalks without helmets

It's definitely worth it. I can't actually ride a bike but my friend was riding up to me when we were at secondary school, he hit the curb and landed head first onto the ground so hard that his helmet (which wasn't cheap crap btw) broke in half. He wasn't hurt at all but when he approached me he said "God, that could've been my skull". He's never gone without wearing one again.

If you really think that looking good is better than a brain that's left intact, then I don't think you have enough brainpower to lose if you get it damaged anyway.

I just witnessed a bike crash last week. The ONLY reason the guy isn't dead as a doornail is that he was wearing his helmet.

They save lives.

Yes, solely because there's no legitimate reason to not wear one.

A:Learn to dress if you look lame with it. Get a better helemt, or wear something that doesn't deviate from it drastically. Or just stop being a self conscious lamer and realize that it doesn't matter what you look like considering you have to ride your bike instead of driving(unless you're the smarter commuter who does so to save gas).

B:Many assume you're going to be hit directly from a car which leads to body damage, not head damage. Well, what about being clipped by the car? That's just going to knock you down. Swerving out of the way of the car because it didn't see you? That'll prolly make you fall too. Just fell down for no real reason? That happens too. The chance of hitting your head means that you should wear a helmet.

Then again, if this lack of wearing a helmet is some sort of social darwinism or whatever it's not really our place to make people wear them...

I haven't been on a bike in a long time but a helmet did save my life in a four-wheeler accident. Hit a rut, lost control, hit a tree, flew off the front and onto my head. Woke up the next day in the hospital. The helmet took the impact and I got away with a hairline fracture in my jaw and a concussion. I still don't remember anything that happened on that last ride.

I used to wear one, ran into a parked car while I was turned around, hit the wrong, and my helmet flew across the street when I hit the ground... May have saved my life, but since then I haven't worn one... dunno why, just don't like it...

Cons:
-You need to have a place to keep the helmet when you've arrived at your destination, you can't just hop on your bike and go
-You're wearing a thick, unstylish, clunky peace of foam on your head... hello discomfort
-They cost extra money

Pros:
-If you get into crash and land on your head, a helmet could safe your life

Decide for yourself. I live in the Netherlands where bike paths are common and cars expect to see cyclists, so I don't need to use a goofy helmet. But if I were in a country hostile to cyclists where bikers need to use the main road, I'd use one for my own safety.
