Voted crap. I played it for 3 years, and realized that no matter what repetitive task I did, there was always a lengthy catalog of more repetitive tasks ahead, and many of those were repeatable. It's not a game of skill, but a game of number crunching and percentages. The community is terribly immature, which is the other terrible thing about it because that means I have to rely of a bunch of fickle tweens to help me advance anywhere, every raid was a disaster, bgs were all about bitching, why the hell does everything have to be a time sink? Seriously, I can get from point A to point B in Guild Wars with a click on the map, in WoW I got to look forward to a 10 minute or longer ride where I could do pretty much nothing.

The 'game' portion of this game is virtually nonexistent, unless you like clicking on something and pushing a numeric key until it "dies" because you have higher stats (and not because you're any good).

Kept me entertained for a couple of years just playing it in free time. Also (mostly) teaches people to work together and not act like a jackass which I liked.

The fun did die for me a bit after the first expansion but I have no idea what it's like now.
You must have rolled horde. On my server I was Alliance and it was literally every man for himself. Anyone that was cooperative was usually just a ninja waiting for an opportunity.

Yep and that was the reason I stayed horde too. Seems to be an unwritten rule that annoying kids pick alliance for some reason. Horde always seems mature and friendly to me but have no idea why there's such a split

Well im thinking about getting it... but you have to pay for a subscription or something and i get addicted to games really easily butive never played it so i guess im asking... is it any good?
Okay, you gotta listen REALLY close... it's awesome... IF you don't get addicted to it. Small doses, pass time. TH game slows down around level 35 if you're not 100% sure how to level the fastest and you might get killed by other people.

Get a guild early on... THat's all I'm saying. get protection

Why ask us? Get the 10 day free trial and see what you think, personally its not for me, its too much of a financial investment and it is one hell of a grind. In my mind its not really any better than the likes of Mafia wars and farmville.

Indeed. A completely new player can normally hit atleast level 9 or 10 in a 6-8 hour span, so a 10 day trial is acctually a fair bit of time to test the game

I have a trial account that just won't end for some bizarre reason. I've leveled all four of my characters to 20, and leveled their professions as high as I can, gotten all the skills they can, and bought a few mounts....and I only play for like, 3 hours a day, unless I'm sick, then I play all day. Oh and...for the horde.

One thing, if you're going to try it, get a current player to refer you.

If you become a paying player, they get a free month, and they'll have incentives to help you get started, and you also get bonus levels and xp as a recruited player.

The optimal conditions would be:
1. You are experiencing a lull in gaming (No interesting releases, played all owned games, etc)
2. No significant amount of work/school work
3. Friends you know on a server

Its actually cheap for 20 dollars a month, considering it is intensive and time-burning

go with a trial version and see if you like it, its a halfway decent game and with the oncoming expansion sure to provide lots of fun but as others have said you need to be prepared for the grind and the not so fun endgame

It's an amazing game. Ignore the haters, it's as popular as it is for a reason. Just be prepared for a massive time commitment and it's very addicting.

The game is fine, but there a lot of awful people on there. I wouldn't recommend a PVP server.

A game without fast-paced gameplay should surely rely on character, plot, and arty-ness. WoW has no characters at al, and no plot whatsoever. The spell effects and backgrounds are nice, but they have nothing on, say a 360 or PS3 game.
The only reason it's popular is because it allows people to socialise; it's just a massive, expensive facebook.
You haven't actually played WoW have you?

I could think of better ways to spend 20 Dollars

Social circles: Good.
Grind-Centric "Gaming": Bad. (it shouldn't even be called gaming)

Add the two and you get WoW.

In short, a game that relies entirely on its social offerings to offset the boring repetition and general nothingness of its gameplay might be profitable, but by no means can I say that it means that the GAME itself is good.

well, a movie ticket is around 11-15 dollars, and considering how long two movies last, WoW is a more rewarding although riskier investment.
