Meh, it's okay, if you like clicking on stuff to attack it, charge spells, and spending money on the monthly subscription.

Well im thinking about getting it... but you have to pay for a subscription or something and i get addicted to games really easily butive never played it so i guess im asking... is it any good?
I would reccemend buying it when the cataclysm expansion comes out , right now Wrath of the lich king has ended and not many people are inclined to do much, plus cataclysm will completely change the leveling experience to add more fun quests and less grindy ones, and for people saying wow is a grind I found it the least grindy mmo out there.
TL:DR; Buy wow when cata comes out , this coming from a longtime wow player

There really should be a middle ground in your poll. It isnt "awesome", but it is beyond "okay".

It depends a lot on your own personal style of game play.

The game has a few types of play. Theres levelling. That itself is an independant experience. Then theres level cap content (dailies, random heroics, etc) which can be really fun. Then theres raiding which is an immense experience if you are able to handle giant elitest douchebags who only care about damage per second and Gear Score (Which isnt even a real thing, its a made up pile of crap from afore mentioned elitest douchebags). Pretty much a case of they don't ask for people who know fights etc anymore, they just want people who got lucky on rolls. But ranting aside, if you have a fun raid group then raiding is great.

Then theres pvp, which is an entirely different monster all together and can be either fantastic or horrific. As a rogue I love pvp because I have a knack for it. As a paladin, i suck balls at pvp. Just depends on what you play more naturally.

Over all, in short, buy a three month sub (cancel it after it is active, you'll still get the 3 months, the sub simply won't renew) and see how you feel after it. You can easily hit 80 in three months, unless you are super busy ith RL stuff in which case its not exactly worth spending that much a month on a game you can only play a few hours a week.

Meh. It's okay. I had a fun couple of hours when I played it at my friends house.

A game without fast-paced gameplay should surely rely on character, plot, and arty-ness. WoW has no characters at al, and no plot whatsoever. The spell effects and backgrounds are nice, but they have nothing on, say a 360 or PS3 game.
The only reason it's popular is because it allows people to socialise; it's just a massive, expensive facebook.
You haven't actually played WoW have you?
Yup, I stopped when I realised it was more fun drinking and talking to real-life people than it was drinking and talking to unemployed norwegians. I had a 58 druid on moonglade (european) It was getting through the dark portal and discovering the gameplay in this new shiny expansion was identical to what had gone before that was the final straw for me.

so in conclusion, yes I played wow for quite a while. It is shit.
Wow you got to level 58 and couldn't pick up on any of the story or characters or interweaving plots. You should have really just said 'no i didn't play it' or something.

I'm more likely to go for Champions Online or DCUO if I'm looking for an MMO, but I guess it depends what you're into.

haha what plot!? there is a fair chunk of scene-setting, all delivered in th blunted prosaic exposition since the start of str wars, but that IS NOT plot, it is backstory that is irrelivant and often the players themselves have no idea why they are collecting thirteen dragons teeth or whatever. NO plot. only characters are people who used to play on the RP servers a couple of years go. I WISH i hadn't played it; namely because it's full of angsty pre-teens obsessed with numbers.
Taking a backstory, adding a narrative to what you're doing and doing it in such a way that you can tell what the next course of action will be is a plot. It's a bad way of doing exposition and showing progression (no argument there), but it is a plot. Bleating at the top of your lungs that it isn't a real way to do a plot doesn't really do yourself any favours, kinda like Liar Liar when Jim Carrey's trying to call a blue pen red to try prove a point (In his case, that he's capable of lying. In your case, that a narrative you disagree with isn't a plot).

S'a shame you didn't like it really, the angst in your post kind of implies you would have fit right in. :p

Unfortunately for you, whatever bad attempt is made at plot, the story never advances. "There re too many (insert animal here) - go kill some. Oh thank you you solved the problem." then the next guy comes along, and gets the same thing. Plot cannot advance in an MMO, unless change occurs globally and independently of the player's actions. This means it is not inter-active, or a plot.
Also, look up angst in a dictionary.
Erm, gates of Ahn'Qiraj, Opening of the Dark Portal, Zombie invasion(s) back in the olden times. With Wrath of the Lich King they added phasing so you DO get the kind of plot advancement you're talking of in the higher level areas. Cataclysm is going to add the phasing changes across the whole level range, rather than just 70+.

To be fair tho, it sounds like you joined after the 3 big events and didn't get high enough to see the new fangled phasing. Then quit before they added phasing to your level range. The character dialog and changed NPC disopositions should have still sufficed though.

And why the heck is that "Unfortunately for me"? I don't even play the damned game anymore!
