I personally hate Cataclysm. I think raids are gradually getting easier, and likewise for leveling. You can get an epic flyer like at level 10 now. I also think Vanilla raids were the best by far. With the exception of Sunwell, Vanilla raids when they were recent were ridiculous. Ahn' Qiraj has been wiped by groups of 70s... I've seen it.
exaggerate much?

Epic flying isn't until 60, Sunwell is a BC raid. Lvl 70's wiping in AQ40? Probably at the twins. If you don't have two tanks and people are stupid, that can be an annoying issue. Compared to wrath, this expansion is not easy. Compared to vanilla? I'd say marginally easier, at least in time sink.

If you're going to complain about them using mythologies from our reality, know this: ALL fantasy fiction does this HEAVILY! The only reason you may not have noticed this is because you have not experienced the vast majority of mythologies out there.

It's a good game still. I don't do much PvE, but I do loads of PvP and it's still one of my favourite MMO's in that regard. WoW isn't for everyone though, it is a bit more casual for an MMO, but that's not to say it's bad, it has optional difficulty like heroic raids/dungeons and high rated arena. I'm strange myself, I like grinding for months on end to get the highest level, I like overpriced auction houses, I like being on a dead server outnumbered 10:1, WoW fails on that level in some regards.

This is fairly off-topic, but if you want to play an MMO then you can buy Final Fantasy XIV for £2, it's free to play right now until they implement enough changes. I know this game is seen as a failure to a lot of people, but the leading guy has actually stepped down, and from its release it's actually gone through a lot of changes, the battle system right now is currently being changed. I know sometimes people reaaaally want to play an MMO and look directly at WoW, I'm just throwing another option out there.

I haven't been playing since vanilla, but from WOtLK and up.
I would say it's been a constant, if not SLIGHTLY better since Cata.
They introduce a lot of fun, instanced quests for that 80-85 grind and they've really improved the UI when it comes to handling guilds, ques for dungeons/pvp, etc.

They also have the new raids which are fun and challenging. You actually need to WORK HARD to play.

but I might not be the best person to ask. I did recently cancel simply because I got a bit bored. There were a lot of improvements, and I'll probably go back after a break, but I got sick of rep-grinding.

Theres no denying that Blizzard have made improvements to WoW over the years. But even so, I got bored in less than a year. I was starting to feel more and more like a mindless drone as time went one, walk here, click there, click some more, do this instance for the thousandth time.

Not just that but it was cost WAY to much money to keep playing. Id rather just stick with single payments on my steam account

Uh, troll post? Wondering if you even played the game, being so confused about epic flying.

Vanilla raids were "harder" due to the amount of people needed and lack of accessible information. They weren't genuinely harder.
Having to plan raid schedules around 40 people means anything but actual challenging raiding content. Also, what with more people these days having that easily accessible information given to them on how to correctly gear and play their class, as well as boss strategies for less tediously constructed raids, it means that more people on average can devote time to raiding and not be totally carried by other people within the raid.

So, if the difficulty of raiding content is defined by the amount of players actually raiding, then yes, I guess Vanilla is super duper hard. I mean, that's how it sounds to me. Less players being successful means it's much harder, right?

And honestly, the fact that you make the comparison between the introductory raiding tier of Cataclysm with the ignorant masses on your server going into unfamiliar content that I'm sure they have never done before is one shitty comparison.
The power creep from Vanilla to TBC was nowhere near the power creep of other expansions. Most of what people saw was higher health, but max DPS in Sunwell barely even reached 3k among good players. Maybe you'd see a hunter or rogue at the time pushing somewhat over it, but with chain bloodlust, windfury totem mechanics, drums, chugging pots, and the legendary weapons available to those classes, it's not that impressive.
Hell, I was pushing 11k in 252 tier 10 on my balance druid (minus the ICC buff in other raiding settings, like VoA) by the time 4.0 was about to come out. That's a much steeper power creep even without the best gear available to me. (to be fair, I had about 4-5 pieces of 264, but not one heroic piece)

Edit: to put power creep into perspective, people cleared Karazhan still in tier 3. In Cataclysm, people were replacing all their gear before they even hit level cap. In other words, a level 60 in tier 2.5 that would actually be doing AQ at the time would probably come out on top of a fresh level 70 in greens and blues (not factoring in the increased health) due to scaling works with leveling.

It better fucking be.

I ordered the game, all the Expansions and 9 months worth of game time, still hasn't arrived yet.

¬_¬
How much that cost you?

OT: For me? No. But that's because none of the people I used to play with are still on and my Guild went to hell. Gameplay wise it's better than ever but for me personally, my WoW days are gone.
Hundred and Ten pounds, I had some time and money to waste.
That's pretty damn good value. Grats.

Better than ever before. The leveling content is amazing compared to what they offered during Vanilla0, a lot more varied and polished, intergrating story-lines way better with questing content now. Just do the Redridge area for the humans. It's freakin' amazing. Raids and instances offer much more varied content as well, more variation in tactics and style. It's a lot more refined and polished than it was before. I find the storylines a lot more interesting now too, with the new Horde and the tensions that creates throughout Azeroth.

Best thing is though that overal Blizzard has given WoW players a lot more choice on how they want to tackle the game. Just do the questing content? Sure. Want to level with PvPing? They got you covered. Ignore all that and just play group instances with friends? Go right ahead. Just want to see the endgame content? 10-Man raids are for you. Want a real challenge? Go get the 25-man achievements. You can even level without killing stuff if you want.

They still aren't nearly as hard as Vanilla was, though.
Then again, boss fights in Vanilla were usually hard because you had to manage 40 people and the spam of monsters. In the expansion boss fights finally were starting to get really interesting tactics. You can do so much more with bossfights when you limit raids to 25 people.

You imply that it ever was.

I'm sure that people who enjoy the game will still enjoy it, but to me it's still grinding, mediocre-at-best combat, and getting to high levels so you can brag about your high level to your other high level friends.

I must admit I still miss it after a year but I always regret paying for that next month. Not seen what Cataclysm has done to the world, i keep my fond memories.
I'd be surprised if the game play and/or community has changed. Achievements ballzed it up back in WotLK :)

WoW is better than it ever was now with Cataclysm.

The problem most people have is that they've playing it for about 5-7 years and they can't seem to twig that this would be a factor in their increasing boredom.

Your confusing their ability to keep the game interesting with the fact that you just lost interest after such a long time of playing, nobody can keep going on the same game forever.

It's not really fair to try and blame blizzard for your apathy.

Edit: Guy above me said the same thing I just did so. Props to him ;P.

yes and no.

The game is far more accessable now in terms of being able to picking it up and playing and in some regards it is getting easier but I think in many aspects it's getting worse.

The Guild leveling system is horrible, basically makes the guild about levels than really like minded players working together or whatever.I hzve seen guilds with like 800 members just for the reason of leveling

I find the lvl 80 to 85 content boring as hell,I played my hunter to lvl 82 and just got bored so fast but that was me

I can't comment on PvP since I don't do that do raiding

I enjoy cata more then WoTLK, but this point in time, after so many years of playing, I myself have grown tired of it.
Im going to wait for a few patches then jump back in, but argh, not into it like i used to be.
Its fun, but not fun if you've played it for ages...

WoW stopped being good after the first expansion came out. Vanilla WoW, oh, Vanilla WoW... Where art thou, Vanilla WoW?
Agreed, there used to be petitions up to have "Vanilla servers" for people who wanted that epic feel it had back in the day. Unfortunately, Blizzard pretty much gave them the finger and they seem to have vanished. Probably quit, like myself.
