So I just finished watching Sucker Punch, (yes, it is awesome), and I decided to immediately check its TV Tropes page. Does anyone else do this?

Pretty much everytime I see a movie, or have seen every episode of a tv show, or finished reading a book or comic series I go on Tv Tropes. I have too much free time to waste :p

I was a regular TV Tropes visitor.... until TV tropes fell apart. You can't deny it: over the past year or so, TV tropes has become overloaded with fans desperately willing to cram their favourite film/TV show/Anime/Game into almost every single category. There are numerous categories which are essentially just duplicates of one another. Someone badly needs to prune some of the categories on TV Tropes, or at least, put up some rules.

I do this all the time. For books, I wait until I've read the latest book, and then check the page. For anime or manga, wait until I've caught up/finished. But I do it, yes.

Pretty much this.

It's not a site i frequent, but once there i usually look up the stuff that i've liked in the gap between my last visit and now.

I always do it. And I always try to add a couple of tropes. I even created a page for a manga. it was the horror manga Fourteen. I made almost the entire page, and I'm kinda proud of that.

I do, though I'm not sure why. Not much new stuff to read anymore.

Well, they write some humourous descriptions...

I have to agree.

To the topic, I occasionally do it, but more often than not, I go looking at specific tropes and not for a show.

I do that quite a bit as well, though I try to make sure that I have at least an hour to kill before I go to the site.

I get curious sometimes. TvTropes is funny. It's like having Wikipedia without the stupid.

Actually, I think their new rules on things like instituting the YMMV tabs & attempting to to weed out all the main page discussion on popularity etc. and generally more rigorous rules are starting to really tidy things up.

Yeah, I've actually created and fleshed out some pages for more recent or obscure stuff.

I love that site, but the only criticism I have is that it doesn't go into deep literery analysis. It talks about things that happen a lot, but never gets into why; in other words, it never talks about themes, symbols, or voice. Other than that, it's a pretty fun site that saved my ass when I took a film class. :)

I only go to the TV Tropes site if it's by a link that somehow leads there for something unrelated, and then I click a few things that I see of interest.

i always check IMDB after watching a film, not so much tv tropes.
usually i'll look up tv tropes once every few months, where i'll spend an entire day or two just reading stuff about all the games/films ive played/watched since last time i had a tv tropes binge

I tend to steer somewhat clear of it. I've lost about a week worth of time on that site, all things considering. Bloody entire afternoons I've spent going from one link to another.

I don't check TV Tropes before or after anything. The few times when I've accessed the site the information presented has been so badly communicated, superfluous and essentially irrelevant that I'd call it useless. However, if TV Tropes was only useless, that would be an improvement from what it is today. TV Tropes is more than useless, it's damaging - it has actually managed to successfully decrease people's subjective understanding of media content, by plugging everyone's experience into the same hive-mind. TV Tropes is an affront against all media and should be forgotten about as soon as possible.

Well that's... Something.

I disagree greatly. Tropes helps everyone become more aware of themes in media. I don't get the hate, honestly.
