11/11/11 That is the date that only a few months ago I was looking forward to ever so much. Now I'm all hyped out, I still have my pre-order for the edition that comes with the resin dragon, but I don't care anymore. I am no longer looking forward to it and I just want it so i can beat it like i did with it's brother games. Even the hype i had built up for saints row three is gone too. I think I am looking for something original, like what Halo 1 was for the Xbox all those years ago. Original seems to be a word that has died in the last few years, GTA was good, Halo was good, FF1 FF2 and FF7 were good, but now I think it is time for a change, but where is the gaming industry going to go?

So I guess the secondary topic of the post is; What is left for the gaming industry that could be unique fresh and above all else entertaining.

P.S. I had this discussion with a friend a few hours ago and had to point out that 'new' and 'origional' do not mean the same thing, so I am going to put it here too.

Apart from the dragons and maybe the stream of water (not really interesting) i saw nothing that would set it apart from Oblivion. But remembering how big Oblivions stories were and how much i enjoyed modding it to death i made the decision to invest some money again.

But i'm not really hyped.

About games in general:
I don't think we see anything but mixes of genre's in the future. Maybe future games will change with hardware and human interaction over the years.

Never cared once they announced the changes in the way skills worked. I'll stick with Morrowind, thanks.

Well they really shouldn't have left it for soo long, Hype can only last so long, But in saying that I'm still hyped for it very much. I can't wait to see some of the new mods and kill some dragons etc.

The thing that killed your interest was the way skills worked? It seems like such an insignificant part of the game to me. "The grass in this game TOO GREEN! I hate it now."

I was just talking to my roommate who played it at PAX. It turns out that you can't equip a shield, a weapon, and a spell all at once because of the new "dual wield" system. Thanks Bethesda.

So yeah, not hyped at all.

EDIT:

Yeah, that was an instant interest-killer for me too. Oblivion offered the bare minimum for what I considered to make a true Elder Scrolls game. Cutting more was just the nail in the coffin.

I forgot all about Morrowind. I used to play it all the time.

Everyone naaaags and whiiines about every little thing of the game they can find.
Not me, I'm not psyched. Anxious? Yes. Longing? Yes. Thinking it's the best thing since Morrowind (badum-tish) Mno. Probably not. But it can only get better.

We'll have to see.
Though I have to go to a party the 11th with the office.. So that's no gaming from 8 am till 10 or so. FFFffff...

That lack of hype as game nears release happens to me for every game I preorder. Normally I even have a dream somewhere in the time before release that show terrible game play. It's never accurate but a recurring thing.
I think the reason for losing hype though, is that you've had too much time to think and been able to poke holes in your own excitement.

Originality on the other hand is something that really is unlikely. Most ideas have been done and the ones that haven't, weren't because they were bad. Everything that comes out from no on will be compared as a "insert popular game here" style game.

Want to know why I played Morrowind? The maths part of levelling up. Setting your major skills as the things you didn't use to maximise the benefits. Now I can't do that.

To me, that was the game.

Well i do agree with you that 'GTA3 = Saints row = Crackdown = Just Cause ect.' Each of those games brought something new to the table that made the games original without being new ideas. You make a sandbox city with killable people and stealable cars and everyone sees GTA but within that you can make it innovative and fun.

I'm more hyped than ever, actually. Been playing Oblivion in an attempt to satiate my longing, but that hasn't worked quite as well as I'd hoped. I'm looking forward to just getting lost in the world like in previous games.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as the OP, mainly because i'm realizing that it's Bethesda and something will go horribly wrong.

I'll still get the game, but my hype load has died and I definitely won't be getting it at launch.

I have no shame in saying I am ridiculously excited for it. Watching the live action trailer every now and again just does it for me, keeps the excitement up. Of course there will be glitches and I am not expecting a perfect game by any means.
I am just looking forward to a nice solid, fantasy RPG, which looks amazing and will whittle away months of my life.

The hype for me will not die down until I've poured at least 300 hours into the game.

Ummm finalfantasy games have no connection other than name ( and possibly sid and summons), i don't see why you added those in your thread . You could name them all something different and you almost couldn't realise it's the same series.

OT: maybe you OVERhyped youself. Getting too excited over something could kill the game for you , but since you didn't get the game yet this is questionable. Maybe you weren't really hyped for the game ,jusy going with the flow, a lot of people are hyped for it , you possibly just got on the bandwagon because thats what everyone else is doing, but now that it's almost here you realise uou don't really care.

As for your subquestion, well we are at a point where it's not profitable to be original ,unless you are an indie developper , and since indie games get no screen time , the only way you are going to hear about them isfrom other people are trying them out yourself. I say look hard for games you never knew abour or thought about trying , you might be pleasently surprised but there is a risk that you are vastly disapointed. Of you are not willing to rosk being disapointed you'll realise why the gaming industry is in the state it is in.

I'm still anticipatory... yeah. Should be some really solid good fun of the best varietal, epic RPG. Does it matter if you're not wetting yourself and making loud squealing noises in private about it? You might like it more for the disestablishment of preconceptions. So this levelling of your expectations is only good. Investing emotionally in a games release only sets you up for crushing realisations.

Looking forward the the 11th =)
