OK, I know my options are kind of silly, but you get the point.
I don't care who it copied or whats been done before or PETA, or EPA, Pocahontas or anything like that.
Did you find it FUN? Any of it?
If so, which bits?
If not, what turned you off?
REASONED ARGUMENTS PLEASE!

Personally, I thought it was simple, but pretty damn awesome. Couldn't get over the detail and the action scenes. And considering the subject matter, I thought the actors handled it pretty well.

I just want to know

It was strictly alright. The CGI was every bit as impressive as advertised, but the story was painfully lacking.

Supposedly, Cameron has been working on this for over ten years, and looking at the plot, I believe it. It's every kind anti-capitalist ultra-environmentalist mystical nonsense from Captain Planet to Dances with Wolves to Fern Gully. It's over-simplified, shallow, and fails to address any of the central issues related to capitalism, environmentalism, or even mysticism. It's lazy and takes a feel-good approach to complicated problems.

What turned me off most was the Deus ex Machina ending. A central principle of storytelling is that characters have to earn their victory and the movie fails in this regard.

I never liked the movie, but never took the time to dissect exactly why. Your short explanation nails it on the head.

I was expecting a much better story when I walked in, something with at least the depth of Terminator 2. That didn't exactly happen and I suppose my expectations were too high and caused me to really not enjoy the movie.

Pretty much what Veylon said.

Plus I got bored half way through. When I got used to the CGI after half an hour, the plot was kind of bland, and I began looking forward to going to Pizza Hut afterwards rather than what happened to the tree of souls.

I was expecting some epic tale of an alien planet, what I got was a story full of clichés that had already been played into the ground

Well, it's very pretty and really well made, but the plot is just so dull and boring, also I didn't really care for the characters. :/

But it's worth seeing, absolutely.

EDIT:

It was OK, but the story was retarded.

This portays the problems quite nicely.

I liked the part where they were playing basketball with their avatars, does that count? The movie was meh. To paraphrase a friend of mine, likening it to the stereotypical bimbo, it was really pretty, but behind the looks there was no real substance and it would only be a one time deal.

I enjoyed it. However I didn't read all that much into the hype so... I guess I wan't really let down by anything (seriously, I knew nothing about this film before I went to see it other than it had blue people in it). Was an enjoyable experience. The FX were brilliantly done, the story wasn't original but it was still enjoyable...

Fairly good movie. Not movie of they year but still pretty good. I don't really understand all the hate it gets.

When Avatar came out, I came on and posted that while it was good, it's not a GREAT movie.

Linkage [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.164313-Avatar-Breaks-Even-Surprises-Everyone?page=4#4299380]

Read that if you feel like reading about a guy that was a fanboy, thinking I'm against the movie for whatever reason that I stated.

Seriously, I look at it on TV and my thoughts are still the same. The storyline could have been improved with more time on Earth, would have been great if the Deus Ex Machina Ending hadn't happened, and the elements just coming together for this ONE event was just...

Yeah, I've gone on about it on the other thread too.

People seem to have a problem with the ending. Was I the only one who thought it wade sense?
They spent the whole movie setting up that the planet was basically a giant brain, with the trees being brain cells, and all the animals being symbiotic bacteria, basically, that reacted electrochemically with it. The ending? I'd say
it's like the big brain's immune system attacking foreign bacteria. The whole religion thing was just the Na'vi take on it.

One of my all-time favorite movies, and it caused me to rename myself here on the Escapist, as is evident to the left. I've seen it around 5 times now, and it never fails to entice me so much that I absolutely love every second of watching it. The CG is awesome, the story is simple enough to follow, and the characters are fun and varied.

I suppose it would be correct, although my understanding of the phrase is rather lacking, for me to be known as an "Avatard."

The poll options are bad and biased.

It was visually stunning. The story was good. Not too original, a bit predictable and somewhat pronounced characters, but they won't ruin it.

It's a very good movie.
