I thought it was pretty good. The story was simple, I didn't really connect much to the characters emotionally. A little, but not enough to really make it the best movie ever.

I am going to have to jump on the bandwagon with this one and say that I really liked the CGI. Like, I loved it. It truly was an example of what can really be done to movies with a lot of painstaking computer work. Each Na'vi creature was individual, even if ever so slightly. One of my friends thought it was one of the stupidest movies ever, because it was, and I admit this in my opinion as well, in part focusing on looking nice and creating these incredible environments for us and wasn't artistically riveting story-wise in the slightest. But I see absolutely nothing wrong with visual spectacle. I, and many other normal people, enjoy looking at panoramic views of interesting places every once in a while.

Not all art is about pushing envelopes or messing with boundaries. It's about expressing what one wants to express.

SAME HERE! I might be getting a netflix subscription for Christmas, so maybe then. But until then I'm too poor to rent/buy movies.

I just saw it a few weeks ago. It was good, but not great. The CGI was spectacular but I just felt the thing was too preachy. If you weren't a tall blue cat person you were somehow inferior.

Idea for Avatar 2- Orbital Bombardment.

Okay enough to keep watching but forgotten shortly after. Nothing more.

Also 3D-cinema is one of the worst initiatives in recent history.

The poll options are bad and biased.

It was visually stunning. The story was good. Not too original, a bit predictable and somewhat pronounced characters, but they won't ruin it.

It's a very good movie.
Apologies. I was too bored to write GOOD/MEDIUM GOOD/MEDIUM BAD/BAD

I liked it, don?t get me wrong. Visually it was stunning, but when it comes to a movie as a whole I wasn?t all that impressed.

The only depth this movie had was the 3-D.

It is the most uneventful and unengaging movie I've ever seen. I neither love nor hate, like nor dislike it.

This includes all the fancy CGI. It just completely left me cold.

I liked the effects and the story was at it's most basic, but it was all enjoyable. The world of Pandora sold that movie to me, not the characters which were BEYOND boring half the time.

A nice little popcorn flick while I wait for better more inciting movies.

I thought this thread would be about asking us to choose an avatar for James Cameron.

Then I remembered that he apparently made some big film or something.

This.
this this this this this this this.

It looked really good, but other than a few good fights, everything else was just bland.
I knew exactly how it was going to end 10 min into the movie.

I loved Avatar. I watched it twice in theaters (once in Imax, both times in 3d) and I own it on dvd. It's not as impressive on dvd, but it's still a well-rounded and amazing movie. I could watch it repeatedly without being bothered.

I was immersed in the characters, interested in the two, uh, realities being portrayed, and I was personally sad by what happened to Sigourney Weaver's character.

When Avatar 2 and 3 come out, I will be sure to watch those as well.

On the by, Hoshin Engi for the win.

I liked it. Even enough to buy it in blu-ray and see it every now and then.
It actually stands right next to my Watchmen disc.

Frankly it was sort of a letdown. I had problems with the plot, but not the usual problems that others had. Was the movie basically DwW with Smurfs? Yes. Did that bother me? Yes. Did that bother me the most? No. What did bother me the most? The fact that it was a James Cameron movie, and as such all the characters are already grouped off into good, evil, good-dead, and evil-dead.

Also, while people raved about the 3D, it was frankly crap, but thatmay be because 3D glasses aren't properly designed for people with glasses, in which either it either has depth but is blurry, or not blurry but bad graphics since the glasses hurt like hell after ten minutes with glasses, and removing them has the movie look just as bad as the blurry version.

So no, I didn't like it.

My friend had the best response to it, in which right after the movie finished, everyone started to clap, while he yelled at the tops of his lungs "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!". The entire theatre went dead silent, seconds before people would've stopped clapping.

So, the plot. WEll its about humans destroying another world, chasing away the locals. Spanish invasion of Aztec territory anyone?

Erm.. I mean... If you get along with it, it's just fine. I saw this in the theathers in 3d. Sceptic of 3d as I was, I thought it wouldn't be so good. (3d movies at the time just didn't do so well.) And this was the first movie that actually made my jaw drop.

I find the movie well translated, put on feelings, the characters came out wonderfull, the 3d effects were amazing and maybe it's me, but I like the fantasy setting. I guess this movie is indeed right up my alley.
