Get over it. You can live in the same world as Jersey Shore and you will still wake up in the morning.
Do you react this way every time someone complains about or criticizes something?

Actually, Teen Mom isn't birth control. A lot of kids in my area have been trying to get pregnant so they can get on the show T-T
That is borderline psychotic. The majority of the show is dedicated to how shitty these people's lives have become due to lack of birth control. In a country where so many people think abstinence education is effective birth control, actually showing the results might help that ignorance.

Yeah...people see these girls, but all they see is the fame they've gotten so essentially doing nothing. It's like American Idol. They see these people RIDICULED and hurt, but they still try anyway because IT MIGHT be different for them.

No but to be "sickened" by something the Jersey Shore did to the point of needing to vent about it is clearly a huge overreaction. Priorities dude. Worrying what The Situation thinks of the Sistine Chapel shouldn't affect your everyday life.

I'm not just venting, I'm sharing so that I can see how the community feels about it and start discussion. Posting on a forum is not exactly a huge commitment, and every time someone complains about people complaining on the internet I really don't understand it. It's not like I'm not organizing a protest or boycotting MTV, I'm just making a post.

Nope.

It's a piece of art and is generally recognized.

If anything about this is offensive, it's that the Jersey Shore is allowed to advertise.
Very much this.

The only reason this get's attention is because it is invoking certain religious imagery and making a parody of it. While it may be of artistic value, it really has no more objective value beyond any other painting you might come across in your local art museum or street art.
Really? The Sistine Chapel is not objectively more valuable than some trashy piece of wall art you can buy at Target? It's the Sistine Chapel, even if all art is subjective a surviving fresco on the most famous chapel in Rome by one of Renaissance Italy's most important artists is objectively more valuable than many other pieces of art.

This ad represents everything I hate about MTV and their recent contributions to our culture.
No, it is not objectively better in any fashion. While it may be part of a famous chapel in Rome, and the artist was a famous man during Renaissance Italy, the content of the art is entirely subjective to the person viewing it (Christianity and it's religious imagery have no objective value on their own, and is usually created as eye-candy for the already religious. Non-religious can admire the subjective cultural value of the art, but the content itself deserves no special mention). While Jersey Shore may be a piece of shit on the human entertainment medium as a whole, and I personally detest seeing it anywhere I see it due to such, it can do whatever it likes in it's advertisements as long as it is legal, and they pay for it. Of course, that says nothing about people not being able to criticize and give it backlash, at that.

But Jersey Shore is almost the definition of pornography - no social or artistic redeeming value.
Also, your overarching bias is showing. Pornography can have social or artistic value to it, just much of it is questionable in that realm of perspective. But in coincidence, the same goes for any other type of visual medium.

Here's something interesting about this particular section of Michelangelo's work -

That's supposed to be Adam on the left. However, if this is really supposed to be Adam, then why does he have a belly button? After all, he's the first man - meaning that he wasn't born, but was created (no umbilical cord). This was discussed on QI, for those interested in how I knew this.
Did you also discuss that God is floating in a giant brain?

I don't watch MTV because I find much of what is on there complete trash. If I wanted to listen to music, I could go on iTunes or Youtube or even just listen to the radio.
The Sistine chapel has become somewhat of a pop-culture icon, just as many other famous works of art. It is unfortunate that people take them so lightly, but I suppose that is how humanity devolves.

Even as a Catholic, this doesn't bother me.
Why, you ask? Because my opinion of that show can't get any lower. They could have an episode involving holocaust denial and child pornography, and I wouldn't think less of the show. In my pit of hatred, Jersey Shore is at rock bottom, and can't crawl any lower.

As a resident of New Jersey in proximity to the Shore (I can walk to the beach in 5 minutes :p) I really don't care, most people automatically assume that we "Jersey People" are all like the ones you see on MTV anyway, and most of them aren't even from this part of NJ.

I don't like the Jersey Shore, or catholicism (been catholic my whole life, now denounced it), but that's a pretty good lack of taste. The Simpsons version was meh, but it's the fucking Jersey Shore.

OT: Not really that sickening. Honestly, the whole teen mom business is far more disgusting to me.
Also for a guy created in God's image...he's rather small in the nether regions

I hate guidos and everything they stand for, but if you weren't offended by his Noodlyness on the Sistine chapel, then this shouldn't bother you much.

No, I find it funny. I think that if this were a photoshop contest, or on a favorite imageboard- most people would, too. Including the people that don't find this funny. Those who don't find it funny don't like it because it's for the Jersey Shore.

Show still sucks, but the advertisement, yea, I chuckled. Nothing to write home about but pretty funny. Not to mention that I heard the show isn't gonna be around much longer anyway, so don't worry about it.

I have always liked the way in the original God gets a tunic because srsly no one wants to see old man bits. xD

Its a bit noxious yes but then again I wouldn't have known about it until you pointed it out. Good thing we don't have anything like that in Brit...oh wait...Essex :(

Of course it sickens me.

It's Jersey Shore.

It'd sicken me if it was a Jersey Shore add on a picture of someone from Jersey Shore. What it uses for advertisement is irrelevant.

Jersey Shore using a piece of art isn't sickening. There's plenty of examples of using art for relatively mundane things. Its harmless. The offensive thing is Jersey Shore itself.

Of course, I suspect that for 99% of it's viewers, Jersey Shore is little more then Self-Parody. Ive seen far more examples of people watching Jersey Shore to talk about how disgusting it is then ive seen people who think it is genuinely compelling. And by far more, I mean in its entirely, ive never talked or heard someone who liked Jersey Shore as something legit.

The show is just a bunch of douchey people doing douchey shit and they get paid a lot of money to do it. I am neither shocked nor appalled, in fact I expect this sort of behavior. A lot of rich people act like jerks.

Mostly, I'm saddened by the amount of people that watch the show religiously. But I am also disappointed in entertainment broadcast for giving us 500 channels, and instead of being creative, they produce this drivel and slap it on the air.
