I didn't think it was possible to desecrate something I wasn't a fan of. Oh well, leave it to MTV to dig new lows for itself.

BTW anyone who "fistbumps" who is not an african American living in an inner city slum, go die. You are an embarrassment to everyone around you. It doesn't make you cooler, more manly, or desirable to women. It makes you look like jackass. A handshake does not make you *ahem* faggy.

This really does bother me, The original painting is an amazing work of art, plus a huge disrespect to the very religion, while I am not religious, I am willing to let these people believe what they wish. As for the whole teen mom thing, the show is repulsive, these are kids who need someone to help support them, not a TV crew following them day and night, I find it as bad as things like john and kate plus eight or whatever, whoopedy doo they don't use birth control, if that is what you care about you need some help. Jersey Shore on the other hand does not help the American or Italian Image, I hope those idiots get kicked out of Italy. Maybe get sued for all their money and have to get a real job, but even then TV crews would follow them those bloody money sucking bastards.

Aside from the obvious fact that, well, it's advertising Jersey Shore (a show the continued running of which will forever be a mystery to me) something about that picture looks really, really wrong. Their arms look weird and disfigured, and the shirt on Adam looks like it was drawn on Paint. The longer I look, the more little oddities come to the surface.

I'm not religious nor an art enthusiast, so I don't really care about what they use in their ads. A bit curious about why Adam is so 'small' though.

Oh come on. This isn't something to get angry about. Maybe cry about, because of the state of popular culture, or pity, because it's so utterly pathetic, but don't get angry about it.

I won a trip to go to Philadelphia in September, I'm gonna be too close to NJ for my liking.

Why would this sicken me? I don't understand. Seriously, someone explain this to me. I understand that Jersey Shore is a pretty terrible show, but how does using the Sistine Chapel painting make it "sickening"?

Even more interesting, if you take a look at God on the right, his image composition is that of an anatomically correct brain. It's true!

You can thank cracked.com for that (god I love that site).

EDIT: To be more on topic, one could argue that Jersey Shore does have societal value in the fact that society as a whole hates it. While I get that it's a joke, saying J-Shore doesn't have society/artistic/whateverthefuck value could easily extend to video games and how they (supposedly) don't have societal/artistic/whateverthehell value.
Also from another less often mentioned part of the chapel

Here's something interesting about this particular section of Michelangelo's work -

That's supposed to be Adam on the left. However, if this is really supposed to be Adam, then why does he have a belly button? After all, he's the first man - meaning that he wasn't born, but was created (no umbilical cord). This was discussed on QI, for those interested in how I knew this.

OT: Not really that sickening. Honestly, the whole teen mom business is far more disgusting to me.
Also for a guy created in God's image...he's rather small in the nether regions
I think in those times, small genetalia was meant to be "artistic", it also explains why if you look at ancient greek art, you will find that their nether regions are also tiny.
QI for the win.

OT: I really wouldn't let it get to you. It's only the Jersey shore. I don't know if you have this in the states but over here in the UK, MTV tried to get on the Jersey shore bandwagon and release a UK version of the show called Geordie shore. I have not seen it, but it seems just as crap as it's American counterpart.

Get over it. You can live in the same world as Jersey Shore and you will still wake up in the morning.
Do you react this way every time someone complains about or criticizes something?

Actually, Teen Mom isn't birth control. A lot of kids in my area have been trying to get pregnant so they can get on the show T-T
That is borderline psychotic. The majority of the show is dedicated to how shitty these people's lives have become due to lack of birth control. In a country where so many people think abstinence education is effective birth control, actually showing the results might help that ignorance.
It might be borderline psychotic, but unfortunately it's quite common. I know of people who went out and got pregnant because their friends got pregnant. Then they go on to complain that they no longer have a life because their lack of judgement . It is no surprise that girls watch Teen mom and want to have a baby to go on the show. A lot of people are often swayed by the prospect of fame.

Can't help but feel that the same people that say ''get over it'' would piss themselves with rage if Justin Bieber decided to cover Stairway to Heaven. As they should.

And yes that means I feel that those degenerates have no right to use something beautiful from what I consider public domain to promote their filth.
Problem with public domain is that it is ...public domain, so this kind of stuff we will have to live with, not ''get over it''.

Sadly I also know the real filth is not in the charicatures of JS, but the people paying them.

If something that minor about religion offends you, then for the love of god, don't watch anything made by Seth McFarlane.

Given your reaction to a simply parody like that, I'm willing to bet that you'll be sobbing by the end of an episode.

I'll admit, I laughed.
The show probably sucked, but the idea of God fist-bumping someone is funny.

I'm assuming you're high. Usually people who are high notice things like that. Or the person you heard that from was high. Good point, though.

OT: I've never watched Jersey Shore in the hopes I won't die young. I've been told, however, that it's a terrible show. Then again, these days I get all my info from Encyclopedia Dramatica, but they usually have the right opinions. Usually.

i hate to imagine what kind of stress free world you live in...because it surely isn't the real world that most of us do..

seriously, its a fucking picture, a parody at that, just leave it alone, and considering the talks on teen mom? doesn't help your situation anymore.

Seems like more people are either offended or at least irritated at the advertisement. Many just because its advertising Jersey Shore, others because its defacing a work of art, others because its disrespectful to Christianity. For some its the rare Trifecta.

I believe I mentioned that I have a passion for Art History and despise Jersey Shore, so it really hits me on two levels. For those of you that say "get over it", "its just a picture", or other trollish versions of 'umad?', after I make this post I'll probably never think about it again. So...challenge accepted?

Bieber didn't cover Stairway to Heaven, but he did cover Pantera's 'Revolution is My Name', which is still pretty bad. Some things you see and you just rage a little. Like hipsters, or when American Idol does a 'Classic Rock' night, or whenever Paris Hilton opens her mouth and doesn't put someone else inside it. Defacing works of art is just one of my buttons.

Just thought I'd share, and some of you guys who rage at me for making a ragey post need to stop calling the kettle black. Yeah, its just a picture - and its just a forum post.

You do realize that this was Michaelangelo selling out, right?

The man loved sculpting and had no respect for religion. But when the church offers to pay you absurd amounts of money to do something you're really good at, you're not going to turn it down. That brain thing was actually intentional on Michaelangelo's part. He knew it would be a fantastic middle finger to the church and no one would ever notice.

So no, I don't think even the artist himself would care if he knew what his painting was turned into for an ad for a reality TV show on a network that was titled "Music Television" but played no music.
He actually DID turn it down, fled the country, and was re-summoned when Popey McWarrior returned from war with France. I know all this. I also know that the brain thing is only a theory, and that a similar theory suggests that rather than promoting atheism he was simply saying that the human brain is God's greatest creation or where God 'exists' in man. Also he refused the bloody POPE's design, came up with his own, and painted a 5,000 square foot fresco 65 feet above ground. You don't do all of that and not have some love of the work you've done, even if you hate who commissioned it and prefer a different media.

I don't care... what, does this make your "religion" look bad? It just looks like it was trying to be facetious, not to be taken with any seriousness, seriously, fuck religion, fuck Jersey Shore, fuck MTV
