I actually have been called for jury duty, and I went in and was selected as a juror for the case. At the time I was unemployed so it was an interesting look at the system for me. It was an OWI case, I don't really feel like typing out the details for the entire case, but we were in session for about a week, and deliberated for a day and a half. Got paid for every day (although the pay sucked!), plus free lunches. But overall I found it very interesting, and I left wondering why so many people want to get out of it. I actually had fun doing it and I hope they call on me again sometime.

Long story short, we found the guy guilty on his charges, and then afterward found out he had 3 more DUI's in Illinois, and was wanted for 1 more over there. Turns out we couldn't know about that during the trial, because that would affect our opinion of him.
Easier to think a guy who has done it before could do it again.
If I am selected, I will go. I have nothing for it to interfere with. I doubt I will be though. I likely wont be called since I will likely be percieved as weird. (Not intentionally or anything)

Jury duty I'll see that Quimby boy hangs for this.

I'm only 20 so I've never been called up, if I was.... depends how things were going that week wherever I'm workin.
As long as you're 18 you are eligible for Jury Duty. Anyone registered to vote is eligible. (Im 20 btw too, and yet here I am)

I got summoned this month and was supposed to report next Monday. I called them today telling them that I didn't live in that country anymore and they let me off scott-free.
Mind you, I wasn't lying. I live about an hour and a half away from the county I was summoned.

I believe I was called once, but then given a letter stating I wasn't needed.

Fair enough. They wouldn't want me in the courtroom anyway. I am a bit of a nut.
Im more of one.
Hit and run...not guilty
Murder...not guilty
Theft...not guilty
and the list keeps on going.
My belifes see there is no murder only suiside
no hit and run only that person should have watch where he was walking
no theft only giving
*Suicide

I'll assume that was simply a bad joke.
No. When a person wants to die there mind, body, and soal make it true. Even if you are shot in the head you may not give up on life. If you choese so you will live past it. There was someone who was shot in the head and lived. Saw it on Untoal Storie of the ER. You give up on life when their is to much pain and sorrow and that is what i se as death. In my eyes there is no murder but people trying to get people to give up on life.

I got called up last month, never even had to go in though, like you said, you would call an automated line on Sunday and Monday night to see if you had to show up the next day...I never had to go, at first it was quaint but I didn't realize that your not on call 2 consecutive weeks, so what should have been four phone calls turned into 8 before I wasn't eligible anymore

I wouldn't take him too seriously (or at all). There have been plenty of people who've survived "shot to the head" including the U.S. politician Gabriel Giffords. That said, don't know anyone who's survived a beheading because of their own gumption.

Australian here, i got called for jury duty twice. Both times I got out because I was a student at the time. I personally would wanna see how it is, and on top of that, you get paid for it. Nothing to really lose there.

I'd just tell them that I find plenty of laws unconstitutional and illegal and that I couldn't find people guilty of them if I didn't believe in them. That gets you out, right?

Haven't been contacted yet. Avoided registering to vote all this time to avoid it, but then I found out that just registering for a State ID puts you on the list now (due to people not registering to vote just to avoid jury duty). I really shouldn't be complaining about this, but I can't help it...

Yes, it's a good thing. You will go, experience it firsthand, and reaffirm your belief that there is truly no such thing as justice.

Jury duty is a weird phenomenon if you ask me.. Just pointing out god knows who and hoping they have a sense of right and wrong to judge whatever person.. It just seems wrong to me..

Luckily we do not have this kind of thing in Norway..

Last year I was summoned and had to serve on a jury for a trial that lasted 8 days. I was 19 and missed a lot of class and work, it sucked

Oh the American Legal system does seem rather...illogical. I could never be a lawyer. I could never argue for the sake of someone who probably did it. (Or did)

Never had jury duty. Why does everyone hate it so much? Seems to me that helping our court system would be a good thing.
