He is exceptional, therefore he should be allowed to shine. His team should recognize his ability and get behind him. The way the world is these days is that everyone has potential. No, they don't. Some people are born leaders and some people are born followers. The suspension of disbelief is not going to trump natural evolution.

I can kind of see where they're coming from with the rule, but I can't help but think that it's just another one of those cases of sheltering kids from valuable life lessons.

I'm sick of the "your special", "everyone gets a trophy" hand-holding that goes on these days. Kids are tougher than we give them credit for. They can deal with being second best, they can deal with disappointment, and they can deal with occasionally getting stomped on in a sport.

Now should there be limits? Of course. High school, college and even pro teams throw in their second and third string when they have a substantial lead. But that should only be used with large leads and when the other team is REALLY bad. Keeping good players from scoring if their team is up by 14 points is babying them.

I find this whole "you can't score a touchdown if you lead by 14 points" thing ridiculous.

It's a competitive sport. Whoever is most dominant wins. You can't stack the odds against someone who is very good because it "makes it more fun." It completely destroys the concept of competition.

It would be like participating in a tournament (say for instance L4D2) and since one guy is super good, they make him only use a pistol while everyone else can use the tier 2 weapons. You know, so it's "more fair."

If they want to, make a causal league for people who aren't competitive and want to have fun and make a competitive league for those who want to play competitively.

Reminds me of Hot Fuzz when they send Nicholas away because he's making the other cops look bad.

Yeah I don't see a problem with this rule. The kid is still allowed to participate, and he's still probably the most important player on the team, but the other kids actually get a shot because he isn't allowed to do everything. Kids sports aren't meant to be extremely competitive, they're meant to be fun for everyone involved.

It elementry school football not the NCAA. You have to let the other kids have fun too.
It's not like it effects the game at all. The rule is only in effect if the team is up 15 and the kid's already scored 3 times.

OT: "Banned" has a very negative connotation, so the OP along with the video is kind of bias.
Well, "Kid Banned From Scorring For Being Too Awsome" is more likely to catch attention than "Kid is Kept Form Scoring If He Scores 3 Touchdowns adn His Team Is Up By 12"

LOL. How are they stacking the odds ? He's only supposed not to do touchdowns when his team is already winning by a comfortable lead. As soon as that lead is no longer 14 points he can score again. This affects the odds of his team winning (which are apparently "1") in no way whatsoever.
It does allow the other kids to play and improve their own game and learn other plays than "give him the ball and go have a nap while he scores" in this supposedly team sport. But screw them, they're not supermen so they might as well not exist.

More like participating in a competition where one guy is so good that when he's run up the score so high that nothing could change that score into something that would harm him, he goes back to the pistol while the others have tier 2 weapons to make it "more interesting".

Besides, it allows all the John Galt wannabees who haven't read the article to whine about it.

I think this is an incredibly stupid idea. Imagine if they did that with other sports. "Babe, we know you're awesome, but you're just too awesome. From now on only half your home runs will actually count"

This reminds me of the short story "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut.

Go read it, its about a society that imposes limits and handicaps on its citizens so everyone is "on a level playing field".

EDIT: Someone beat me to it :D

Breaking News: The world is an unfair place where the many punish the few. Shocker.

But then again, where is room for fun in this dog-eat-dog cut-throat world that so many on this thread state is "the real world?" Perhaps... its actually not the world we live in, as fun exists to the best of my knoweldge. And when your goal is fun, healthy competition, you should impose limits on those who do better to allow everyone else to have fun as well. Its called maturity. And this kid has more of it than some of you who sulk in "the real world."

Instead of making a rule so the other players stay involved why don't the other players start working harder and practicing so when they get better they actually can stop him? Getting you ass kicked can be a great motivator if you get a coach willing to help them. And play eye of the tiger whenever their practicing.

They are stacking the odds because they are limiting his potential (i.e. giving the other team a chance to completely come back and decimate his team). Look at professional football. Some teams are down by over 21 points, and then they come roaring back to topple the other team. If this kids team was held back by this rule, and then the other team came back and beat them, it would be a false victory because the rule limited them while they were winning.

Again, you seemed to glaze over my other point that if people are so hell bent on a stupid rule like this, make a casual league (with the rule) and a competitive league (without the rule).

Then none of them will feel like they "should not exist" which you so kindly implied that my argument states.

So the Mario Kart principle of "catch up mode" has been ported to real sporting events.

Fantastic.

People blame these current generations for being self centred and having no understanding of how the real world works, but look at the shit people deal with...

Ergh...
HAHAHA Damn nice analogy and yeah I do think it's kinda shitty, but even when I played Highschool Football they had a touchdown limit for us as well.

Basically if were scoring too high by the 3rd quarter (The score was 52 to 7) the coach would take us out and send in second string so as to give the other team less of a hard time.

That's just adding insult to injury. First we whoop their asses and then we humor them by putting in the weaker offense and defense.

Who cares?

It's youth football. The kid is probably happy to be so good that they have to make a rule to stop him from scoring.

And I'm sure he'll do fine in college, if he's that good.

Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

Imagine being on a either of those teams.
1. You're on his team, and you won't have a chance to show off your own or your team's skills. Why even bother playing?
2. You're on the other team, in which case, after a certain point it becomes so ridiculously high score distance that you have no way of gaining up on the other team. Why even bother playing?

Oh my god people. Stop trying to equate youth football to all forms of everything in society ever. IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT PEOPLE. Youth football is there to engage kids in a fun, team building activity. It's not a goddamn test on your grade score, it's not a tryout for NFL, it is a kids GAME that kids PLAY (Sorry I don't know how to make italics on this thing). If you have a kid waaaaay above the mean for average level of playing skill and you just let him score those 7 points beyond the rest of the kids, it demoralizes the rest and it stops becoming fun. Honestly if it was the NFL or something serious, it would be a big deal... but it isn't. Stop trying to make it seem like society is putting a handicap on individuality, cause it's not.

Tl;dr: It is a fucking kids league, not the NFL.

Seems reasonable enough I guess, as the point of sports for that age is mostly about participation, and if the game plan has been reduced to "give Demias the ball," I don't see there being much participation by the other players.

That being said, I don't know why they don't move him up to the higher league immediately. If he's THAT good, I'm pretty sure he could manage playing with kids a year older than he is.
