I play a lot of fighting games but I seriously doubt that Killer Instict will be added to my wheelhouse. Firstly this is not a system seller. It's a revival of a niche fighter that's been dead for over a decade and it's being produced by a company with an incredibly shitty track record. Beyond that I have a few other gripes with the game:
1) Console excluse - This is an issue because while future Capcom fighting games will likely be on both the PS4 and Xbone future Arc Systems Works games will almost assuredly be PS3/4 exclusive (see also: BlazBlue: Chronophantasma) and IMO ASW games > Killer Instinct. That's the sort of thing that could easily determine which console becomes the primary one for fighting game tournaments.
2) DOA5U took the distribution model that KI was planning on using and, so far, it looks like they did it better (i.e. more robust free content, better pricing structure, etc.). KI doesn't look like it has as much content as DOA5U and it looks like its pricing is much less consumer friendly.
3) C-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-combo BREAKER!!!!!!!!!! - This phrase is loud and obnoxious. If the demos are anything to go by one is going to be hearing it fairly often. I want to punch whoever thought this was a good idea in the dick.
I share some of the same issues with you especially of the devs but maybe they do a good job this time who knows. As for console exclusives yeah that does piss me off especially in a game like this where I personally dont think it will sell systems and as such limiting it to one system is only hurting its chances that said Microsoft own rare and the IP so apart from a possible PC release its gonna stay exclusive. Arcs games seem to be going Sony exclusive because I just think thats where they get most of their sales and ofc its a company not one game so fans of their games will likely follow and buy the consoles they are producing games for. Sure they will lose some sales from being plat exclusive but not that many in their case I believe.
I agree that DOA5U did the distribution model better and I wouldnt mind games taking its model I thought it was a really good one personally and 4 characters for free thats two thirds of KIs cast on release and half of their first seasons cast. Content is a major concern for me in KI theres the 20 dollar version for 6 eventually 8 characters and a story mode (eventually) which I dont see as amazing value but if its fun its fun but I agree its less consumer friendly and ofc you can upgrade and gets things like the original KI with online (which will be dead instantly) some accessories and pin badges (yeah lol).
I dont get the counter arguments like SF2 only had 8 characters like they are saying we havent moved on since then sure 8 is ok but from an established IP from a major company we expect more. Then they say well then we dont get swamped with characters and can learn them all well yeah ok but no one is forcing you to play all the characters in any fighter but if theres more then we get more choice. Then theres ofc the old well they are all different and balanced well Skullgirls has characters that all play differently and that is from a small studio with a new IP and while SF4 may have a lot of shoto type characters im pretty sure it has a lot of different types as well. As for balanced well thats all speculative atm. I just wished they had more time for development and released a more robust game at launch fighters dont have a huge shelf life for most people and by the time new characters arrive in a few months most people wont care.
I read people saying how amazing the customisation (a huge step forward for the genre to some apparently) was today even though it looks no different to what Virtua Fighter and Tekken have been doing for ages and what SC has already surpassed.
Have to disagree on the last point though the cccccombo breaker had to be in it wouldnt be KI without it but yeah I suppose it could get obnoxious. It looks like they are trying to make the series more serious though which I am wary of the original KI was pretty stupid and thats what gave it its charm I hope they dont go all moody on us.

I wanted a new KI game for the longest while. Iv'e been telling my fighting game training buddy that if ever a new one was made , i'd buy it in an instant! Becareful what you wish for. I was SO happy to see a new KI game, Then it was annonced to be a Xbone exclusive . Fuck , my , life . Its tempting as fuck, but i won't touch the xbone with a 10 foot pole. Which is a shame because has it come out on ps4, i would have preordered the console.
I do look at videos of the game on the offchance it get's a ps4 release. If it does then i'm going to run out and buy a ps4 .
Same here but its unlikely to ever get a PS4 release for reasons I am sure you are aware i.e Microsoft owning the IP but a PC port may happen I suppose but I wouldnt hold your breath.
I wish the game the best but damn im so bitter I am also sceptical about continued support for this game will they bother releasing more than 2 seasons if only a few people are buying them? I am also tempted to get the console for this game as I really do love fighters but no my pockets arent that deep.
I guess we will have to wait and see what happens my guess is it will die quickly I could be wrong but I think there are to many quality fighters elsewhere for many to care and ofc KI isnt exactly a huge IP I wouldnt mind being proved wrong though and ofc Microsoft do have the pockets to throw money at it until it succeeds if they want to.
I really wanted a new Darkstalkers game and still think judging sales off of a game over a decade old that has already seen multiple releases as a meter for success is dumb I mean how many people would have bought KI one and/or 2 with online? not many I would wager.
