I was just curious if there are a lot of people anticipating this game? I would be definitely anticipating it but I am not getting a next gen console for a while and wont be getting an Xbox One until the price drops hugely so that sorta dampens my enthusiasm somewhat.

I do hope to play it at some point but next month I will just have to stick to Aquapazza and SC2HD which I am ok with and my wallet is to.

However I do love fighters and KI is no exception I never got to play the arcade version much but I used to play the SNES version a lot as back then all I really played were Platformers and Fighters.

I was just wondering is this a system seller to many here? have you any history with KI? and for those who are getting an Xbox One do you plan on playing this game? and when I say play I mean for more than a few hours i.e sit down and try and learn it and not just have a quick mash every now and then for a few weeks.

I played a lot of the original KI, but I'd like to think my tastes in fighters have matured since then. Either that, or the formula just hasn't aged well at all. I really have no interest at all in the new KI and doubt I'd even check it out were it coming out on a system I owned.

That said, I am interested in seeing how well it does. It's a new distribution and sales model for a fighting game and, should it be successful, I can definitely see more fighters releasing that way.

I play a lot of fighting games but I seriously doubt that Killer Instict will be added to my wheelhouse. Firstly this is not a system seller. It's a revival of a niche fighter that's been dead for over a decade and it's being produced by a company with an incredibly shitty track record. Beyond that I have a few other gripes with the game:

1) Console excluse - This is an issue because while future Capcom fighting games will likely be on both the PS4 and Xbone future Arc Systems Works games will almost assuredly be PS3/4 exclusive (see also: BlazBlue: Chronophantasma) and IMO ASW games > Killer Instinct. That's the sort of thing that could easily determine which console becomes the primary one for fighting game tournaments.

2) DOA5U took the distribution model that KI was planning on using and, so far, it looks like they did it better (i.e. more robust free content, better pricing structure, etc.). KI doesn't look like it has as much content as DOA5U and it looks like its pricing is much less consumer friendly.

3) C-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-combo BREAKER!!!!!!!!!! - This phrase is loud and obnoxious. If the demos are anything to go by one is going to be hearing it fairly often. I want to punch whoever thought this was a good idea in the dick.

I wanted a new KI game for the longest while. Iv'e been telling my fighting game training buddy that if ever a new one was made , i'd buy it in an instant! Becareful what you wish for. I was SO happy to see a new KI game, Then it was annonced to be a Xbone exclusive . Fuck , my , life . Its tempting as fuck, but i won't touch the xbone with a 10 foot pole. Which is a shame because has it come out on ps4, i would have preordered the console.

I do look at videos of the game on the offchance it get's a ps4 release. If it does then i'm going to run out and buy a ps4 .

I wish I was more excited for the new Killer Instinct. There are a few things keeping me from wanting it though such as...

A) It's a fighting game. I bought Injustice within its first week but that was mainly because of the subject matter and how easy it seemed to be for people like me who have never been all that good at fighting games.

B) I was never that good at the original or, Gold. I own the original and used to own Gold (currently looking to replace) but I wouldn't play the SNES one as often as say Primal Rage or, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Zord beat-em-up. Then on the N64, I just didn't like fighting games for that console...it seemed like games like MK4 (released on the N64) has a better version on the Dreamcast...can't think of any other fighting games on the N64 like that though...

C) It's exclusive to a console that I'm not going to buy. If Killer Instinct 3 were on the 360, I might buy it.

?) Isn't this game going to be "free to play"? You download the game and have Jago but if you want other characters you have to pay for them individually? I said it before and I'll say it again, this console generation will test just how much bullshit the consumer is willing to take.

I share some of the same issues with you especially of the devs but maybe they do a good job this time who knows. As for console exclusives yeah that does piss me off especially in a game like this where I personally dont think it will sell systems and as such limiting it to one system is only hurting its chances that said Microsoft own rare and the IP so apart from a possible PC release its gonna stay exclusive. Arcs games seem to be going Sony exclusive because I just think thats where they get most of their sales and ofc its a company not one game so fans of their games will likely follow and buy the consoles they are producing games for. Sure they will lose some sales from being plat exclusive but not that many in their case I believe.

I agree that DOA5U did the distribution model better and I wouldnt mind games taking its model I thought it was a really good one personally and 4 characters for free thats two thirds of KIs cast on release and half of their first seasons cast. Content is a major concern for me in KI theres the 20 dollar version for 6 eventually 8 characters and a story mode (eventually) which I dont see as amazing value but if its fun its fun but I agree its less consumer friendly and ofc you can upgrade and gets things like the original KI with online (which will be dead instantly) some accessories and pin badges (yeah lol).

I dont get the counter arguments like SF2 only had 8 characters like they are saying we havent moved on since then sure 8 is ok but from an established IP from a major company we expect more. Then they say well then we dont get swamped with characters and can learn them all well yeah ok but no one is forcing you to play all the characters in any fighter but if theres more then we get more choice. Then theres ofc the old well they are all different and balanced well Skullgirls has characters that all play differently and that is from a small studio with a new IP and while SF4 may have a lot of shoto type characters im pretty sure it has a lot of different types as well. As for balanced well thats all speculative atm. I just wished they had more time for development and released a more robust game at launch fighters dont have a huge shelf life for most people and by the time new characters arrive in a few months most people wont care.

I read people saying how amazing the customisation (a huge step forward for the genre to some apparently) was today even though it looks no different to what Virtua Fighter and Tekken have been doing for ages and what SC has already surpassed.

Have to disagree on the last point though the cccccombo breaker had to be in it wouldnt be KI without it but yeah I suppose it could get obnoxious. It looks like they are trying to make the series more serious though which I am wary of the original KI was pretty stupid and thats what gave it its charm I hope they dont go all moody on us.

Same here but its unlikely to ever get a PS4 release for reasons I am sure you are aware i.e Microsoft owning the IP but a PC port may happen I suppose but I wouldnt hold your breath.

I wish the game the best but damn im so bitter I am also sceptical about continued support for this game will they bother releasing more than 2 seasons if only a few people are buying them? I am also tempted to get the console for this game as I really do love fighters but no my pockets arent that deep.

I guess we will have to wait and see what happens my guess is it will die quickly I could be wrong but I think there are to many quality fighters elsewhere for many to care and ofc KI isnt exactly a huge IP I wouldnt mind being proved wrong though and ofc Microsoft do have the pockets to throw money at it until it succeeds if they want to.

I really wanted a new Darkstalkers game and still think judging sales off of a game over a decade old that has already seen multiple releases as a meter for success is dumb I mean how many people would have bought KI one and/or 2 with online? not many I would wager.

Yeah a digital only release and free to play where you get one character that can be played online or off but no story mode play this character rotates over time to allow you to try others if you are prepared to hang around. Fighters can be purchased separately but I think if you buy 4 you may as well have bought the pass to get all 8 season one characters and story mode (6 on launch with 2 more and story mode in a few months). The basic season is 20 dollars I believe with the next one offering accessories for characters and KI one with online for 40 dollars and then theres the ultimate edition which gives you a pin booklet as well with two pins for 60 dollars. Apparently you can get more pins by travelling around the country and going to KI events or something so yeah most wont get more than 2 pins.

If you preorder you get or get it on release (not sure) you get shadow Jago as an extra character apparently how different he is if at all is unexplained.

I'm a Mortal Kombat fan, so to me it looks pretty fun.

Alas, I will not be buying an Xbone, so I shall watch from the sidelines!

I don't know much about Killer Instinct so I don't know how faithful it is, but from what I've seen it looks fun. If I ever get around to buying an Xbox One I'll probably check it out.

Oh and the music's really good too.

The original Killer Instinct was always my favorite fighting game, so I'm absolutely excited for it.

That being said, I am going to wait to see how it turns out when it's finally released. With the sheer amount of content that has become pretty much the norm in fighting games as of late (Mortal Kombat, Injustice) it seems like this new KI is going very bare bones, as it basically seems to just have an arcade mode, practice mode, and vs. mode, and even with "second season", the entire roster seems to be about 12 fighters, which is half of what we've gotten used to as of late. Regardless, I'll wait till it comes out to judge.

But it better have Riptor.

Killer Instinct was the game that taught me to count combos, and it'll always have a nostalgic place in my heart. But this iteration? Not only is it beyond my reach (I have no intention of buying any kind of XBox) but I'm left to wonder if it can even succeed in the market these days. It's a basically dead brand subject to a new market strategy that could entirely backfire.

You get jago and saberworlf for free . You can do everything except story mode( which isn't available at lauch). You can buy the game for 20$ or buy the characters individually.

I was never really hype for Killer Instinct to begin with, and have never had any inclination to buy an Xbone anyway...

But the whole "most of the game is DLC" just rubs me in all sorts of wrong ways.

There really needs to be a 3rd option on this poll. Would you be if it weren't Xbone exclusive?

I loved the original KI and would love to play this if it weren't for the Xbone.

It doesn't help that if a game isn't Capcom, it's considered poverty tier and doesn't pull the crowds like SF4 or UMvC3 can.
Totally agree here and have never got this attitude especially this gen where I feel Capcom fighters are definitely no longer the best out there its not the days of SF2 anymore. I feel Arc deserve more credit especially as they make money off of niche games in a niche genre and Capcom with more fans say they struggle to justify more fighters, I just feel they have unreasonable expectations and maybe they spend to much on development. That said I have liked most of the Capcom releases except SF X Tekken but they have all looked pretty ugly in comparison to almost all their rivals except Netherealms equally ugly models (which is another company that does well despite putting out inferior games than their rivals imo).

Kheapathic said:
They have a dedicated fanbase but nothing like Capcom does, their more sizable fanbase is in Japan as well, where Microsoft is barely alive. With that being said, it looks like EVO is going all XBOX for 2014 (and no idea about the future). So if ArcSys would like their titles given more support on the big stage, they'll need to put their titles on something aside from the Playstation. Microsoft has their fangs in Rare sadly, ArcSys can still choose where to put their games luckily.
Agreed but EVO is set in america Xbox home country so Microsoft could easily sponsor them to use Xbox Ones like Sony did to use PS3s its just they didnt bother maybe that will change now though especially after their initial PR disaster I expect Microsoft will be pushing like crazy and so maybe they are sponsoring EVO for 2014.

I dont think Arc care much about Evo to be honest and I am unsure how much their games would be seen even when it is on Xbox as well I mean this year we saw Persona 4 Arena on screen (which was awesome) and that was it I dont know what else has been there I think Continuum Shift showed up one year and was then dropped from main tournaments.

They do hold their own cup though I believe but with the release of Xrd I think thats the best chance they will have of breaking back into Evo but Chrono Phantasma looks really good as well.

I like watching Evo but I think people put to much stock in it and treating EVO champions like world champions which is ridiculous but definitely no disrespect to those who do win EVO or do well as whether your the best of the best or not placing well takes some serious skills (and luck in some cases).

Was thinking about it but decided against it as its intrinsically linked to the Xbox One atm so I wanted to see if all people were excited about it taking all the factors into consideration. There is no doubt in my mind that many more would be excited if it was available on a plethora of systems.
