Well I need a new game for my PS3. I've actually plowed through my pile o' games and seen the light on the other side. Right now I'm thinking about Kingdoms of Amalur as I have a few Gamestop coupons I need to use soon and I can score it for about half price. The reviews seem to be not too shabby but was wanting some firsthand opinions from people rather than critics. So whatcha think? Is Kingdoms of Amalur worth slapping down 30 dollars for? Thanks for any advice and/or suggestions!

Amalur isn't bad, but it's not exceptional either. My biggest complaint is that I expected more from a Salvatore/Mcfarlane team up. If you've already wore yourself out on Skyrim, Amalur should help fill the void for a while until something else comes along.

Diablo 3 comes out in a few months, if money is tight, you might just wait for that though.

I would say wait until the price goes down. I bought it and played through it but it quickly becomes very generic and boring. Once you realize how stupidly easy the game is and how shallow the combat is, it becomes very dull.
I still haven't even come close to finishing it.

Is there a demo for the PS3 version? I played the demo on PC and it seemed like a less shitty Fable.

Ya 30 is fair enough, but be warned that the game is stretched out with the standard MMO time wasting trickery, so if you have the patience then go for it.

I was gonna make a long list of issues but that would probably just sully your experience.
I didn't enjoy it much, sure they do lots of flashy stuff but when you take a step back you notice the substance behind it is quite thin, at best of times I would call it a cheap Fable TLC.

I'm 40 something hours in and I'm having fun. Some of the side quest are just filler, but some turn out pretty cool. I like the different skills and the combat is fun. Try the demo and if you like it I'd say go for it.

The game is good, don't take me wrong...

But it has one thing i really hate... fetch quests... constantly and everywhere... the plot and combat are... kinda good...

The game for me is just a gigantic Meh...

There is indeed a PS3 demo, but it is the same as the PC one, as far as I know, beyond controls.

Like people have said, it's ok.

The combat is pretty fun, and the fact that you can switch classes and reset skill points easily keeps it from getting dull for a while.

They have some nice unique weapons (never seen chakrams or anything like the faeblades used before), and the world is pretty big. The classes are nice and you can mix and match them to your hearts content, and the game rewards you for it (being a rogue/mage replaces your dodge with a poisonous blink, and things like that).

The game is paced weirdly and questing gets annoying. The main story is really short, and the quests feel drawn out. It's also really really easy. I'm near the end and i got bored of the game, so to finish it quickly i went pure mage. The meteor spell destroys pretty much everything and it has a large AOE.

The story itself never really drew me in either. The idea is interesting but the execution is lacking, and with the way the sidequests are arranged you can pretty much forget about the main story and come back to it confused about what's happening.

It's sort of like a MMO story. Sure there's a main quest but it isn't incredibly entertaining and not always there, and the side quests are just ways to get XP with a bit of story tacked on.

I hope they make an improved sequel. I see a lot of potential.

For the full price, nah, but for the 20 bucks it's right now at origin (in my country) hell yeah.

The only horrible part is how mind numbing easy it is.

You haven't?! How have you managed?! A pair of "faeblades" are the second, maybe even THE most famous weapon in the Activison/Blizzard universe; and chackrams come a lot in any Asian themed videogame.

I wouldnt say its worth $30, I cant say it bad but its the most generic and forgettable game Ive touched in ages. Think less refined GoW set within World of Warcraft. If that sounds like you might like it, go for it.

For half price or less then yeah, it's a good game. For full price probably not, unless you're desperate.

I only played the demo. And I can confirm what several people said already - it's Fable TLC. But using an even more generic fantasy setting. It's Fable TLC v2.0 set in D&D v2.0. It's so cliche it's sometimes painful. Not worth the full price but not really that bad. The combat is OK, though. So you have Fable set in D&D with an OK MMORPG-ish combat. Take that as you wish.

It's all right if you have the money to spare. You could have it for 30$ if you really feel like it. I myself wait until it's less than half price - 66% or 75% off on Steam sounds about right.

Do you like wow? If so, yay. If not, nay.

KOA is like wow, only without the people. I got charmed by the interesting and planescape-like start and the eye-catching visual design...but I got bored of the uninteresting quests and the mmo-like world and feel to the game.

This might sound strange...but it feel way to GAMEY...and not enough like a real world.

I sunk in over 150 hours into the game.

It's not going to rewrite how to make a WRPG, but it's a damn fine game with some great ideas.

My biggest beef is the level 40 cap and most of the side quests are basically fetch/kill quests.

Eh, I suppose it gets a half-hearted "yay".

It has some potential and it can be basically fun to play, but it's utterly average in almost every way. If you want something adequate and unremarkable to kill time then it will do the trick, but you will have completely forgotten about it within a month of finishing/abandoning it.
