I'd probably go with LA Noire just because it's a lot longer than Portal 2. And portal 2 is only half a game if you don't have a friend to play with.

LA Noire is longer but I find it a more frustrating (interrogation system is very hit or miss) and tedious experience. That's not to say its bad, just when compared to Portal 2 (which I loved) it can't hold up.

Unfortunately I haven't played portal 2 yet, so I'll choose L.A Noire, either way, a solid game.

Both are great games, both are 9s in my book, for completely different reasons.

If you have someone to play COOP with, I'd say go with Portal 2, before you get tired of it being quoted.

If you need a game that'll last you a while, go with LA Noire, before the story gets ruined for you.

Both games have fantastic stories and interesting gameplay mechanics.

Honestly, I got about 13 hours out of Portal 2 and I don't really play it anymore. I'm still playing LA Noire after 30 hours. Like you said, they're completely different games, but I think LA Noire has a lot more length to it.

It's hard to chose....
Both games are logical puzzle games honestly, in one game you try to find out how to get from room A to room B by using objects and portals, in second one you look around for clues and try to use them in proper way to unlock the case

Portal 2 1:1 L.A Noire

L.A Noire doesn't have a multi player and actually doesn't need it. Portal 2 has one but the fact is if you don't play with anyone or don't want to play with friend in Portal 2, technically 1/3 of the game is locked off from you.

Portal 2 2:2 L.A noire

L.A Noire is more serious, mod based game set up in characteristic noire movie style, when portal 2 has this fantastic futuristic world with amazing sense of humor.

Portal 2 3:3 L.A noire

Damn... both games are equally good for me.

Neither, LA noir is kinda meh just something seems off about it, portal is all of 5 hours single player with insane loading times.

By leaps and bounds Portal 2, was always going to be, and always will be the superior minded gamers game of choice, definitively, and Portal 2 will likely become GOTY 2011.

LA Noire is actually innovative and ambitious. Portal 2 is a well polished generic linear game with incredibly over-rated narrative and a good gameplay gimmick.

Because it is a relatively open ended question which in everyday conversation would lend itself to such an answer.

In your opinion. We haven't even got to to sep-dec sweet zone for releases and judging by the reviews portal 2 is mildly too flawed to be a front runner for goty.

If you don't mind me asking outside of the facial animation tech it wasn't exactly earthshattering for innovation. A 3d point and click adventure with interspersed action, and a flawed interrogation mechanic, different yes, innovative... its a toss up.

You don't write code do you? You're post is all squished up, so I cbb editting it into a nice format.

Anyway, you're comment that it won't be a front runner, I disagree, I think unless Mass Effect 3 goes 'SURPRISE!' in December and we all get that, I doubt anything else will beat Portal 2, I will admit, there is potential, just not LA Noire (in a sane world).

Portal 2 was exactly everything we all wanted and more, so I doubt anyone could complain, beyond the lack of a run button, and that it doesn't go forever.

LA Noire, which I have played, should be rated as a 7/10, and if you check metacritic* the user score was only 74/100 even if the reviewer score was 89, 74 is what the game deserves, and thats at a stretch.

I like LA noire because it move the medium forward and away from cod clones but portal 2 all the way. Like Yahtzee said, it was basically a game adaptation of la confidential and that's a good thing cause i liked the movie. portal 2 was about pure crazy, the walls are not real but rather suspended, Cave Johnson he is bat shit crazy, and the turrets feel pain. LA Noire's location is bland to me, the world is flat and boring (to me).Portal's location is alive literally, it is like a insane ghost but with singing turrets. over all LA Noire was good but got boring real for some reason. While portal 2 is insanely awesome, after awhile of most video games I just want them to end but with portal 2 both gameplay and narrative kept me enthralled.
they are both astounding achievements (or trophy if you rock a PS3)of gaming.

Ah someone else with no code writting skills *forced to fix to correct being misquoted* Ok, here we are now.

Credit where its due, that is a fair call, remember, that is still higher than the 74 for LA Noire, and, that's not even the definitive version of Portal 2, the definitive which everyone should agree, is the PC version, which* recieved a user score of 83, as well as a 95/100.

We still have Deus Ex, Diablo 3, Skyrim, arkham city, Last Guardian, skyward Sword among others. Plus Portal 2 has the misfortune of releasing earlier than any of those. Which I dare say will hurt its GOTY chances as it does with the oscars and movies.

Portal two will make some GOTY's inevitably and rightfully so I just think that another more recent title shall take over in the gaming press's collective memory as the standout.

Could be, but Mass Effect 2 was releaed in January if I recall, and that must've won GOTY somewhere, epic game.

Speaking of games also on PS3, Portal 2 recieved a user score of 79 on the PS3* as well, also higher than LA Noire's 74... for PS3.
