I have yet to play it, so I wouldn't know what it was like.

I voiced my major concern elsewhere:
What replay value is there in the game once you know how to solve each case?
Well, do you actually replay every game you pay full price for? Most story-driven games are only good for one run anyway, but that doesn't mean they aren't worthwhile.

OT: Put me down in the Hotly Anticipatory column. After getting completely absorbed by the atmosphere of Red Dead for several solid months, I have a lot of faith in Rockstar.

It also looks good from a Games-as-a-Medium standpoint. Not only do you play as an out-and-out good guy for once, but it seems to be treating violence, crime, and sex in a mature, understated manner with minimum fanservice and player sadism. It looks like a game that grown-up gamers can finally hold our heads up high about when we claim that games are moving forward.

i'm really hoping it's not another heavy rain, but rather a GTA focused on solving crimes rather than perpetrating them

It looks to me like GTA but in the shoes of the old school Mafia, so I have zero interest.
You're a cop.

It's the direct reverse of every GTA ever.
So where does the replay vaue come from, or any fun messing around in the sandbox world, I can't imagine a cop going crazy killing everyone
So..."Boo Rockstar, I don't like things that are different or innovative, make another game about carjacking and murder plz"?

I don't understand all the hype behind the game, I have heard people freak out about the facial expressions and what not, okay. They're good yes, not a very good selling point though. I'll just wait for a friend to buy it then try it out at their place.

It looks technical amazing. It breaks barriers between gaming and art.

But is it a good GAME?

no.
Because as we all know, a game is only good if you kill something every fifteen seconds. Otherwise it's boring!

this game is certainly different to the rest of rockstars games.
I honestly don't think so. To me it's just another GTA clone with a twist... that is until I actually get to play the game.
in the sense that its an open world third person 'shooter', yh its a GTA clone.

but otherwise its completely different, and requires great intelligence and perception.
We'll see... :|

Considering it's going to sell a million billion copies. Than probably have 'spin-off' dlc... and than they will sell it in a pack.

Yeah eventually.

Have you played it? No? Then stop trolling.

The facial expressions are awesome but, to me, the real selling point is the gathering clues and interrogating suspects aspect of the game. That shit sounds awesome.

Sandboxes serve more purposes than enabling mayhem. Ever play Mafia 2? That game had a sandbox, and even though there wasn't much to do in that sandbox, it gave the world a strong sense of place, and as the game went on you became more and more familiar with the various neighborhoods and districts of the city.

And what is this issue with replay value? Since when is it not good enough that a twenty/thirty hour game is great the first time through? This is a concern I've heard raised at almost no other game. And what if you fail to solve the case the first time? There's replay value right there.

You're expecting this game to be GTA. It isn't. If you want to kill pedestrians, there are games for that.

I never mentioned GTA, you're mentioning mafia 2's open world in your favor? that sandbox just served as a long drive from mission to mission, various critics bashed it for its boring sandbox, if LA noire has a sandbox like mafia I would be very worried, I don't want LA noire to be GTA i'm just saying why have a sandbox when this game clearly looks like a heavily stry based, mission based game

I'm not sure what you're proposing they do instead. Linear driving levels? A sequence of strung together investigation and interrogation missions with cutscenes in between?

We've come to expect certain things from sandboxes, and one of them is "I can go apeshit in them." I don't think that quality is as much of a given as people seem to be convinced it is. Exploring the world isn't enough, you have to be committing acts of senseless violence in it for it to matter?

No I'm just hoping theres something to keep me coming back to the game, wether it be some form of rewards for exploration or random crimes in the street, but from what we've seen it looks like a fairly linear game with an open world
