They announced it 5 years ago that it will be released on all 3 platforms and now they changed their mind and they will not release it for the PC.

So no,I won't be buying it.

The problem with La Noire and RDR is the lack of radio stations makes them boring to travel around. I can't believe they're not putting them into LA Noire, RDR has the excuse of it being 1912, but cars had radios in 1950 afaik? Even if it was just news bulletins that update along with the story, and a selection of copyright free music from the era it would make the game a lot less dull. I'm predicting it's going to be quite linear (little to no diversion from the narrative, though the narrative isn't linear) which is disappointing as Rockstar are known for deeply entertaining games. The trailers really only showed us cop business, there will be no going home after a hard days work and relaxing, going on a date, playing pool, or any of that stuff. I don't know if you'll even be able to drive since you'd have to follow the law as the police are hardly going to arrest you? So many potential flaws, I really hope they pull it off. GTAIV and RDR are EASILY the 2 most ambitious and well developed games this generation, but this is a new studio with no track record.

They announced it 5 years ago that it will be released on all 3 platforms and now they changed their mind and they will not release it for the PC.
No they announced ps3 exclusive more than 5 years ago. Only recently (2 years ago?) they announced it would be on 360 too with Agent being ps3 exclusive as compensation for Sony funding development. It was never coming to PC, though Rockstar have a habit of PC ports a year or so later. It's a ridiculous reason anyway, deprive yourself of the best games just because they're not on PC? Very few good games are pc exclusive these days other than MMO and RTS.

It looks to me like GTA but in the shoes of the old school Mafia, so I have zero interest.
You're a cop.

It's the direct reverse of every GTA ever.
So where does the replay vaue come from, or any fun messing around in the sandbox world, I can't imagine a cop going crazy killing everyone
So..."Boo Rockstar, I don't like things that are different or innovative, make another game about carjacking and murder plz"?
no.. "Hey rockstar why make this game open world when theres very little sandbox fun to be had as a cop and verry little replay value in solving cases"
Sandboxes serve more purposes than enabling mayhem. Ever play Mafia 2? That game had a sandbox, and even though there wasn't much to do in that sandbox, it gave the world a strong sense of place, and as the game went on you became more and more familiar with the various neighborhoods and districts of the city.

And what is this issue with replay value? Since when is it not good enough that a twenty/thirty hour game is great the first time through? This is a concern I've heard raised at almost no other game. And what if you fail to solve the case the first time? There's replay value right there.

You're expecting this game to be GTA. It isn't. If you want to kill pedestrians, there are games for that.
I never mentioned GTA, you're mentioning mafia 2's open world in your favor? that sandbox just served as a long drive from mission to mission, various critics bashed it for its boring sandbox, if LA noire has a sandbox like mafia I would be very worried, I don't want LA noire to be GTA i'm just saying why have a sandbox when this game clearly looks like a heavily stry based, mission based game
I'm not sure what you're proposing they do instead. Linear driving levels? A sequence of strung together investigation and interrogation missions with cutscenes in between?

We've come to expect certain things from sandboxes, and one of them is "I can go apeshit in them." I don't think that quality as much of a given as people seem to be convinced it is. Exploring the world isn't enough, you have to be committing acts of senseless violence in it for it to matter?
I'm actually with you on this. If I want to go do some crazy random stuff in a sandbox, I'll play Saints Row 2. Not every sandbox games needs to do the same thing. I'm playing Mafia II for the first time now and I'm loving that it heavily encourages the player to play the game for the story.

I think it looks really cool, and I want to get it, it is just a game I keep forgetting about though so I may not buy it for a while once it comes out.

It looks really interesting, but I'm not too big into Rockstar games. I loved RDR. I thought that the main story was amazing, but outside of that it wasn't too great. The stranger missions had their moments and I thought Undead Nightmare was sub-par, much to my dismay. I could also never get into GTA. I might get it if there's a price drop. I love their stories, it's just I don't like how they handle sandbox games. I prefer Bethesda sandbox.

Must resist... Urge to pre-order... goes against principles... for unproven franchise...
*remembers how Homefront turned out*
*Sigh* I'll wait for the reviews.
Or you could go off of the developers track record...

OT Hellz to the yeah I'm buying it. I really hope that this spawns a whole new genre.

I'll borrow it off my brother. Given Rockstar's last game, I'll probably buy it afterwards.

You know, I recall the same vitriol when Read Dead Redemption came out. I will also concede when I first bought RDR, I played maybe a handful of missions then moved it aside for a whole damn year until just literally this weekend and I've been playing the hell out of it. Granted, it has the same play mechanics and 95% of the missions have you killing off somewhere between 10-30 armed enemies, but what drives it and what is pushing me through, just as it did in GTA4, is the narrative. This is what I still think Rockstar (the Publisher of LA Noire) and hopefully Team Bondi (The actual development team, which has seemingly been mostly overlooked throughout this entire thread) will continue this trend. I could easily see there being a overarching plot thread throughout all of the individual crime scenes.

The play mechanics in this also seem interesting, although the whole facial animation part seems more gimmick than anything. Judging from what I could ascertain from trailers as well as the posted achievements, I hope the game rewards you on being thorough and investigating crime scenes for clues rather than just handing them to you, so is essence kind of giving you a chance to find as many hidden jigsaw pieces before going to set down and assemble the puzzle, to use an awkward example. And yes, there also seems to be enough points where the player will be needed to clear out the obligatory wave 10-30 crooks.

I'm going to take a gamble on this and pre-order it.
