Repeat thread, theres about 50 of these my friend.

Personally I think people are over-reacting.

Both of your sentences need question marks by the way :)

I dont care. The first one was a good game, and I JUST recently bought it, so i'll play that for a while. Plus LFD2 isn't out until november.

I think it' bloody ridiculous.

Boycotts on games will do little, and most will probably end up buying it anyway shortly after anyway. Why? Because to this day I still see people who go and buy some game they think will be absolute crap and then go "yup, I was right, it's crap!" right afterwards-but they still bought it.

The Boycott is Nerdrage Posturing; nothing more or less.

L4D sold 2.5 million copies at retail. That number excludes Steam purchases.

With that many copies sold, they'd be dumb not to release a sequel.

And honestly, no petition or boycott group could ever hope to become big enough for Valve to notice a marked decline in their sales.

The Anti-L4D2 group on Steam right now isn't even 1% of the number of people who bought L4D. 0.96% to be exact.

That's a pretty piss-poor number. If less than 1% of my customers were unhappy with a product, I'd be pretty satisfied that I've made the right move.

And hell, that Steam group has dummy accounts. I'm being generous when I say 0.96%. I'm sure the real number is lower. And it's already pretty low.

There's a boycott?

Whatever, I don't really care. All the people, who boycott a game or a movie are losers anyway.

Remember when some people wanted to boycott Casino Royale, just because Craig had blonde hair? When Royale came out, it broke box office records left and right, critics and movie-goers declared it the best Bond movie ever, and it turned out to be the highest-grossing Bond movie ever.

People will still buy it and play it.

mmm... i dont know, if it haves more cool stuff ill buy it... i dont really care spending money in video games, because after all, it is still a waste of money, it is a rip off?? sure, but in the end i still like to get the games, i bought rock band with all the peripherials even thought i am the only one that plays and only play guitar, i think of it as an "outside the budget" expence, if i have the money and i like it i buy it :p, i dont work to buy video games, i work to survive and mantain my family, in the end a video game is just a luxury thing i get for my self when i can afford it, so spending to get more content, yeah, i guess i´ll buy the game

I laugh at the boycotters just about daily for being such a bunch of morons.

Anyways, I'll buy the game, no doubt about it. Never bought L4D1 anyways, only played it at my friends house.
Well, I just worry about splitting the communities. They really could've just made left4dead2 and expansion pack. Cause all they add is new characters and gun models. (Wow their adding a silencer to a smg, which does nothing gameplay wise it just looks cool) I mean I would've gladly paid like 30 bucks for a new expansion. But now I have to have pretty much one game taking up twice as much space?

Valve is a commercial company and well within their rights to make a sequel. Whilst I would of course prefer for it to be free DLC for L4D1, I think that the boycott is both an overreaction and a stupid idea. Their arguments are mostly overstretched and basically boil down to: "Waaaaa! We want free stuff."

I'd say it's a justified reaction, seeing as Valve had said on numerous occassions that there would be additional content (more than just survival mode)
That being said, I'm not going to side with the boycotters... I'm happily sat on the fence for this one.
Hopefully they'll still honour those statements... even a full campaign for Last Stand would suffice.

But as they've said that they're gonna do something to try & prevent the L4D community being split, it sounds like they'll do something similar as the reverse-compatibility (or whatever you want to call it) between Rock Band 1 & 2.
i.e. Installing the L4D's content onto the hard drive to allow the maps to work in the 2nd game.

However, I'm still pretty psyched that there's a new L4D on the way & will still buy it, as I've had countless hours of fun blowing the shit out of the undead.

And the whole "5 new campaigns with a total of 4 game modes"

That's a fair bit of content that some people put a lot of time and energy in designing, buidling, and testing and I doubt that they did so with the idea that they weren't going to get paid for it just as any other studio (EA, for example) would get paid for a sequel they produced.

My honest opinion about it is probably that it will be good, much like L4D, maybe even pick up the little slack the original had. The melee weapons should be fun [chainsaw, hopefully], new infected, while slightly modifing the old ones [I hear the witch wanders around now or something.]. It MAY be a little too soon, but I think it will be good. My only complaint is that their taking out the original characters. I feel like it just won't be the same, but the new characters are okay, I guess.

Well, see now your putting words in my mouth. I said that this game would make a good expansion but not really a full fledged game. Besides the 3 of the 4 gamemodes were in the last game, and survival mode sucked. Besides 5 new campaigns? If Valve had released the SDK at a reasonable time then we could've had hundreds of campaigns. But I think that by not allowing the community to develop is really only hurting Valve. Besides when it comes to TF2 valve is still releasing maps, modes, weapons, and new achievements. So why not try to do the same for Left4Dead. Are we just not important enough?
