So just two days ago I downloaded League Of Legends, and I'm already suspended.

You see, they say I left to many games in succession or have been disconnected after being Idle for to long. The problem is I have completed every match I've joined but had to reconnect after the client simply disconnected me from the match or closed the game entirely. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection and there is nothing wrong with my computer, I have nothing running other than League Of Legends. I went to the site to see if there was a chance I could get this suspension repealed and found that I can't, even if it was caused by the game itself.

I was planning on buying a few characters tonight but now I question if I'll even bother playing after the suspensions lifted, because why bother? What's going to happen next time? A week long suspension? A ban? Can you imagine being banned from World Of Warcraft because you disconnected or just had more important things to do? Or any game for that matter.

So, what are your horror stories regarding bad customer service received from gaming companies?

I've never come across anything quite that bad. Then again I only ever play Super MNC nowadays, and they're very nice to their customers, so I'm a bad example.

Edit: Oh wait no, I've got one. I once tried to get my credit card removed from my Xbox Live account. Yeah.

When your game crashed did you get the "blug splat" error?
Not that I remember, first I've heard of it actually.

Reminds me of the time my uncle tried cancelling his AoL service, it was ridiculous. They wouldn't stop offering him deals if he stayed with them and my uncle would just kept repeating, "I want to cancel my service." for nearly half a hour before they actually gave up and started the process.

happened to me when I put my credit card for Aion, i clearly remember cancelling my subscription and removing my credit card, 6 months later when I checked my card I found out that they kept charging me. What a bunch of baloney. At least Guild Wars 2 won't need me to put down a credit card.

I say keep playing, suspensions are one thing but a ban is different. I get incredibly upset if I'm playing a normal game (still under 30) and someone disconnects, even if it's for a couple minutes it puts our team at a severe disadvantage. I understand that mistakes happen but it's hard to battle back from being so far behind. It doesn't mean you deserve to be suspended it just means that I'm probably more likely to report you for going afk.

Once you get sent to the tribunal things get a little silly since I hear people auto-punish a lot for the bonus IP (even though it dilutes their voting power) and when looking through the tribunal they won't see that you had an emergency or your game crashed they'll just see you're bad score (I assume) and the fact that you were under-leveled at the end (unless it went on for a long time).

However Riot deals with all the perma bans, which makes it much easier to appeal (and much harder to be banned in the first place) it really sucks you were suspended but have faith that Riot won't screw you over royally (no promises)

maybe try and get a more stable connection before starting?

I have exclusively been playing Co-Op Vs AI on Beginner difficulty, I've always been equal or greater level even when reconnecting (Never AFK), and on top of that I usually have a better k/d ratio than the majority of my team. Since a level 30 friend of mine plays regularly he's given me lots of tips that I've been helping other newcomers with as well, I try being as helpful as possible. There should be no bonus anything for reporting someone since it should be obnoxiously obvious to the company that people will falsely report for the bonus. In fact, I've just finished reading about someone who spent over $300 and has thousands of matches in the game that has been permanently banned and he's only been getting automated messages sent to him saying nothing can be done.

I think you actully gert auto suspended or warned if you constantly disconnect rather than someone deciding. Im not sre what you can do, they have had server problems recently so maybe your being affected by that. Otherwise you could try emailing riot or using the support forum to explain that you are having connection problems.

oh I would never report someone if it was against computers, first off they are just way too easy to get worked up over. Plus if you disconnect one of the computers 'disconnects' as well to keep the teams even so there isn't any disadvantage.

it's important to note that there isn't any benefit to reporting someone, the tribunal system is just a way for the LoL community to judge cases that have already been reported. as an incentive to help riot sort through all the complaints they offer an IP bonus for 'judging' cases and this is where the abuse happens (trust me I agree there shouldn't be a bonus on it)

I've also recently seen someone who had played 1000+ normal games and bought riot points before his account was banned, he got it appealed so it might be a route you might want to consider (although I think appeals for suspensions are less common since they are automatically 'appealed' after about a week). fortunately I've never been suspended so I can't really help you from experience but I wouldn't worry too much about getting wrongfully banned since Riot is actually pretty decent when it comes to customer support.

you might also want to take any threads you see about people appealing bans with a grain of salt, most people will play up the good side of themselves while completely ignoring the bad parts. I've been in games where people had a pretty good score and never disconnected but spent the entirety of the game complaining about kill steals/bad teammates and just generally being dicks to everyone else (i'm not saying you did this, I'm just saying not everyone who gets banned deserves an appeal)

I would probably hold off buying points right away though, at least see if you get suspended again before buying RP. if it happens again you definitely should contact Riot and try and get more information. But don't stop playing because of it, LoL is an awesome game and Riot isn't as bad as most companies (although the tribunal system is pretty lame)

You should send an e-mail to Riot customer service, from both mine and one of my friends' experiences they're nice people and will understand.

I sent them a fairly long message that took me a while to compose about the problem and got a seemingly automated response not addressing a single thing from my message. All they did was recite the policy nearly word from word and continued explaining that even if the client itself caused my momentary disconnects it's still my fault. People think Capcom and EA are bad? Have they even seen Riot Games League Of Legends?

Yup. That shit happened to me before.
Three random disconnects in a match, I'm a Leaver (even when I had the highest number of kills, or strongest farm...DERP!).

Definitely email their support team first. Barring that, I dunno what to tell you. My ISP regularly binks out on me, but I rarely get hit with a Leaver penalty for it now (dunno why).

Riot has always been quite nice to their community in my experience, being ascended fanboys and all.

They even will give you a couple extra riot points if you can ALMOST afford something and ask them nicely enough.

Just appeal it. Surely if you're telling us the whole truth, Riot will look into it.

And don't compare them to corporate giants like Capcom or EA. Riot isn't even close to that kind of company. Riot is a bunch of Wacraft 3 modders than learned to program a game from scratch and filled a multiplayer niche and got rich off it.

I'd say you'd best try to isolate the cause of the disconnect before deciding if you want to continue playing and buying champions and skins.

Does it happen to another computer at your location? If not, it narrows it down to your computer - would a reinstall of LoL work? Any background running tasks? Usual latest drivers and SP and update patches?

I'm sure it sucks, they have a hell of a big problem with banning and people wasting time when they were legitimately banned (just to be clear not saying you were but it's common.) If you go through the support forums you're much more likely to get a fix to your problem, Riot is generally very good but banning is something they're pretty unresponsive over.

If this does get sorted out I'd suggest you give the game another try though, it's really good fun, especially once you've learnt how most of the characters work.

I've never been banned, suspended, or in trouble in a gaming community until now. I assure you I'm telling the whole truth and understand that people often leave out important details since they're usually pretty upset, which I am, but I'm still calm. As I stated before, I spent some time and effort into sending them a message detailing what happened and got nothing back but a seemingly automated response explaining that even if it was the clients doing I'm still accountable. And seeing as they don't even have the decency to reply in person to those who've spent large sums of money on their product, I don't see how this is good customer service.

Have you ever played in a system that's as team-dependent as LoL? Leaving, even if it's the client's fault, is still a large detriment to your team--if you were having that much trouble staying connected, you needed to stop playing until you fixed the problem. Ruining the games of hundreds of players because you--and only you--have a technical issue isn't fair to them. I know Riot support can be hit or miss sometimes (though my experience with them has been overwhelmingly positive), but you should have gone to them (and to the Bugs forum) until you fixed the problem, and stayed on them until the problem was fixed.

Also forgive me my skepticism, but ever single time someone has posted on GD about not deserving a ban, even for leaving, Pendragon has come in and torn them a new one. I'm definitely not inclined to believe you. Speaking of Pendragon, have you tried posting to GD about the issue? WookieeCookiee will very likely look into this if you get enough visibility there.

EDIT: Reread your original post and some others, I apologize for not doing so more thoroughly. If you are indeed a new player, then 1) keep bugging support until you get a response, and 2) go post on the LoL General Discussion forums about this. Directly emailing support and asking for WookieeCookiee should also work. You just have to keep at it.

The moba community gets to judge itself? And we thought Stalin's trials were a farce. It's been a contender for "worst community in gaming" for years for a good reason.

Not MOBAs as a whole, just League, and even then it's hotly contested within its own community. The Tribunal works, to an extent, but it's still really sketchy.

EDIT: To clarify, I am only responding to "The moba community gets to judge itself?" thing, not the quality of the community.
