I enjoy the L4D crew better then the new set. Playing as Zoey or Francis just made me happy. The only one from the new game that does that is Ellis.

All of the Left 4 Dead 2 survivors are better than the old ones, simply because they have more dialogue and character development (albeit not much). If we're judging them as characters, the new survivors win simply because Valve purposely gave them more character.

Well except for Rochelle. She is almost as dull as Zoey. Though it's not really because she's a bad character, but rather because compared to the other survivors she has very few lines of dialogue.

Francis is my #1 in the original because me and my friends "hate" anything we can quote him on, followed by Zoey because I like her look. Nothing against the other two, what's-their-names (joke)?
I exclusively play as Ellis in the sequel, because I grew up with a LOT of friends like him and I like his outfit. Tied-off coveralls tells the world, "Now you asked for an ass-kicking".
I think overall I like the original characters, but I think that might be because of the difference in the total time I've spent with them, and nothing builds friendly relationships like saving each others asses from zombies and cliffhanging for months at a time.
