Coach is great. Nick seems like he would leave them all in a second if it went his way. Ellis is just a kid. Rochelle has the personality of lamppost. I like these new bunch of survivors, though. They go well together. I also like, how in Dead Center, in the elevator they all introduced themselves to each other. It's a small thing but it's nice.

Rochelle sucks, she has no interesting character traits.
Then why does everyone like Zoey so much more? She has even less personality.
Zoey was funny, and had an interesting back story (she survived because she watched a lot of horror/zombie movies). Also unlike Rochelle Zoey was attractive.
Rochelle has made me laugh just as many times as Zoey. Though do to both of them lacking dialogue they rarely do so. And Zoey had a backstory? I wasn't even aware of that, because she never mentions it once. Lastly, you shouldn't consider a character to be good just because you find them to be attractive. Personally I find them both to be equally attractive, but I don't judge them based on that.
Why am I not allowed to decide whether I like a character based on whether or not I find them attractive. It's an aspect of their character. As for Zoey's backstory, you're not a lone in overlooking it. To piece it together you have to pay close attention to dialogue, or in my case check wikipedia :)

The new survivors can't compare.

Zoey: Holy shit did you ...did you see that? Zombies shouldn't be able to move that fast ..h,heh. I call zombie bullshit!

Fransis: I hate trains.

The only back story that Zoey has is that she was a college nerd that watched zombie flicks. That's it. Rochelle's back story is just as limited, but at least her's as some impact on her personality beyond just spouting quotes from movies (which both of them do).

Other than that, anything you read on the wiki is pure conjecture. Since the release of Left 4 Dead people have endowed the original four survivors with character traits that they did not have. But even Valve admits that the character development of the original 4 survivors was weak. It's something they aimed to fix in Left 4 Dead 2 and the Crash Course campaign. While the character development in Left 4 Dead 2 wasn't spectacular, it was at least an improvement.

And you shouldn't say a character is good because they are attractive. Being attractive has effect on a character's personality. Though I suppose it is easier to gravitate towards an attractive character rather than an ugly one. But this point is moot because Rochelle isn't ugly.

well, as indaviduals, i prefer the original group, but as a group i like the cast of L4D2, it feels more realistic.
