WAAHHHHH, cry some more.

But seriously, I love there's a new Left 4 Dead. The first one seems kidna unfinished imo and I love that they're going to make the campaigns linked together in a more narrative way.

Also, http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/06/01/left-4-dead-2-exclusive-rps-preview/, read that and tell me they're not adding a lot more content.

Very bad move and also....I am worried, about episode 3. I really hope it will not be a repeat performance. Brilliant as ep 2 but exactly the same. I have began to see commercialization as valve becomes a bigger and bigger gaming company. Seriously when they started off it was a test not a real game, that's what half life was and that was what was amazing about it but as the company gets more powerful there is a chance they will become generic it is difficult to perform at the standard of the half life series and it is equally easy to lose a grip on it.

Ea are whoring it for money because they dont like valves way of giving the consumers their moneys worth with free conttent (exapmle tf2)...
EA has nothing to do with this, niether does TF2. EA seems to be the favored fallback of angry fanboys for some reason, even when it has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

L4D2 might be too soon, but there seems to be a number of good changes being made here, especially the director. If they can put the same care into the AI all the better.

They'll have been making it for some time now... it won't take long if they're using the same engine, so I can understand the speed. Why do you complain? "We have new settings, new characters, new weapons and the ability to use melee weapons." I'd say that sounds like a different game to me, what more do you want??

If you think it's too soon, cool, don't play it.

I'll be enjoying me some chainsaw =D
The problem is that they could have made Left 4 Dead 2 with another game engine in the future, instead of making something that the cummunity would do in 5 months if they gave us the full SDK, come on! The only thing new are the survivors (they feel like Left 4 Dead survivors wanna be) the meele (the only good thing) and the model of the Tank (WTF, he looks even weaker). The weapons could be changed with skins and the fire ammo looks like crap from Star Wars.

The day light maps could be done now because of the release of the SDK, in fact, there are probably some day light maps already

This makes perfect sense, a new game comes out and surprisingly quicker than normal, and you have to be mad. Cool.

I didn't think the first Left 4 Dead was amazing considering the hype. So they've changed a few things; I'll wait to play it before I pass full judgement.
I would like to hear something about Half Life 2, Episode 3 sometime in the near future. It's been too long...

My general feeling after playing Left 4 Dead is that it was an unfinished game. It was definitely an enjoyable game and there was lots of multiplayer fun to be had, but the game was a zombie game in a metaphorical sense as well: it has bones but not a lot of meat on them.

Ideally I would have liked to see new features added as updates to Left 4 Dead instead of the release of a Left 4 Dead 2 just so all gamers were really satisifed.

The original Left 4 Dead (yes, now we have to call it "the original") is still hot off the shelves, and Valve announces a sequel?
Because, based on the devlopment time of Valve games, it won't be released for another 18months - two years.

Half life 2 announced May 2003 for Sep 03 release, released Nov 2004.
L4d was announced in 2006 with an 'early 07' release date but didn't land until 2008 (proabbly because Valve bought out Turtle rock, l4D's original developer in the intervening time).
TF2, that took nine bloody years after it's announcement.

L4D 2 may be pencilled for November this year, but on previous form expect at least another 12 months on top of that. Or it'll be an expanded variant of DLC and not a 'proper' sequel at all, in which case the glorious PC gaming master race will get it cheaper...

The first one has sod all in the way of content, but it still holds up well...I've put many hours into it with friends. I can only see a more expansive version as a good thing. If you don't want it, it's as simple as not buying it.

On the plus side: more zombies, more killing of said zombies

On the minus side: could this not have been released in the form of TF2 style updates?

I feel like Left 4 Dead is a game better left without a sequel. It had its ups and downs, but it was a well-balanced game. I feel like a sequel will only add things to the game that fans who missed the point wanted, requesting things like more guns, melee weapons, and things that will only make it closer to a generic first person shooter over time.

I note that pretty much all the characters in the L4D2 Trailer had Melee Weapons... this leads me to believe (and hope) that it's going to be a Melee Focused Game with a very different feel from L4D1, so you'll still be playing L4D1 if you want some Zombie Shooting Action and L4D2 if you want to chainsaw some flesh eating Mo-Fo's.

Personally I LOVE sequels that don't invalidate playing the original.

Alright I love Left 4 dead. But it was missing a couple of things. Storyline was one. It was supposed to be 4 different movies and the characters were ment to be just thrown together by the apocalypse which didnt quite fit because they all got along all fine and dandy like they'd been friends all their life. If they change this Ill be happy.

Second the melee weapons, Thankfully they put this in as it will be fun. However theres a little man in mind just telling me that "noobs" and Zombie addicted Children high on lemonade are just going to run around with a chainsaw and ruin the game for everyone playing properly.

The characters third. This time they seem much better. Francis was the worst. "When the apocalypse started he grabbed a gun, got a bike and went out and had some fun" This makes no sense. The zombies would have murdered him straight away. Atleast this time the characters look they have a story. The Black guy who seems to be some sort of "Farmer" is shown to be quite religious in the trailer and the characters looked different atleast. Well ... Except that teenage guy who just looked like a carbon copy of the Team Fortress 2 Scout.

The AI director seems so much better too now. Atleast it changes where you go and such to add variety everytime. I mean the zombies came at different times but it was nothing you couldnt handle if you just sat down in a corner. I dont expect the game to split you up as you have to stick together to win, but atleast if it adds something where one of the survivors falls out of a window or something and you have to protect them well they get there composure will add more of a panic the game was ment to have.

Anyway, I do beleive that this game looks brilliant and I anticipate it as much I do Episode 3 and its not been released too soon. It comes out in November and that will make it about a year and a few months since number 1 came out.

Errrrr it`s not coming to ps3 (or at least it`s yet to be announced for it) so publisher duties will remain with valve.....
